Weird And Wild Takes Coming Out Of The New Dungeon Meshi Fandom

weird and wild takes coming out of the new dungeon meshi fandom
if you can read all of dungeon meshi and see how it revels in the eroticism of consumption and plays with themes about base instinct, overwhelming desire, loving something so much you want to take it inside you and keep it there forever...if you can read all that and think that the author would be against people sexualizing her characters then I don't know what to tell you. dungeon meshi isn't horny in the way most fantasy animes are horny, but it's a huge fault to think that means it's not horny at all in a more complex and allegorical way. sex is a huge part of human instinct, just like eating, and the wires often get crossed. its that's not a bad thing because sex isn't a bad thing, lol

just saw someone compare savanaclaw rook to fucking hol horse im crying
I just started the part 3 manga, and I think a lot of my problems with jotaro are specific to the anime. I never really thought of the animation as “stiff,” but in the manga, jotaro has a lot of subtle expressions that give the impression that this is a scared kid trying his best to act tough. In the anime however, his expressions are so unmoving that he just comes across as a one-dimensional “tough guy” type. In the manga, he’s a dick to his mother bc that’s what teenagers do when they’re stressed. In the anime, he’s a dick to his mother bc he is a dick. In the anime, jotaro tries to kill avdol for no reason. In the manga, he begs avdol not to interfere because he’s afraid of killing him.
Also, in the anime, he calls star platinum an evil spirit, and as the audience you’re just like, oh this seems like a neutral spirit- he must think it’s evil for superstitious reasons. In the manga, star platinum can talk independently from jotaro’s thoughts, and threatens avdol with no input from him. Also the first close up of star platinum looks like this. Which is, to put it nicely, fucking terrifying. He looks like N’doul.

So it’s like, oh okay, I get it now. Jotaro is completely understandable.
Something I’ve seen a few times before is the idea that, to contrast the NRC crew, the students of RSA have nice facades but are secretly condescending, arrogant, rude, etc. The reasoning for this is pretty solid: the students at NRC are villains with secret good sides, so the students of RSA should be heroes with secret bad sides.
But the problem with this - at least in my humble opinion - is that it’s just wrong in a major way.
There’s no doubt that the NRC students, especially the Dorm Leaders, are complex characters. They’re people who have been greatly hurt in some fundamental way and have thus developed a hardened exterior, shunning away that softer part of themself.
And after their respective chapters, each character is allowed to become better, make better choices, do nicer things, and just improve as people in general.
But let’s not kid ourselves, these characters are still fucking assholes.
When we finished Chapter 2, Leona rude and lazy nature didn’t instantly melt away to reveal that he was a sweetheart this entire time, he was still rude and lazy even if he was slowly improving. And the same goes for Azul’s scheming nature and Riddle’s strictness, etc; they aren’t as one dimensional as their facade would suggest, but it’s not like their bad attitude is skin deep.
So, why can’t the RSA students be genuinely kind if the NRC students are genuinely mean?
But on the other hand, it also doesn’t make sense for them to be one dimensional, non complex heroes who’ve never don’t anything wrong in their life. So I have a solution.
If the NRC students are arrogant little dickheads who have been hurt in the past in a way that shaped them into what they are now, then maybe the RSA students are genuinely kind people who have been crushed by the weight of expectations and the pressure to be “perfect.”
They can’t be rude, or selfish, or mean, or anything that would paint them as being less than the golden child the world expects them to be. They are good people at heart, but they’ve suppressed their “bad” side like how the NRC gang has suppressed their good side.
Anyways, these are just my thoughts.

he's so normal
So I decided to do some maturation math for the party and depending on how you calculate dwarven maturation, Chilchuck could be the oldest in terms of maturation.
To put it in relatable terms, I tried to calculate how old everyone would be if they were Tall-men.
Tall men only have the average lifespan of 60 in dunmeshi so shorter than most places irl.
Half-foots are only 10 years shorter for as much emphasis they put on how short-lived they are at an average lifespan of 50 years.
Dwarves live to 200... which brings complications. Laios mentions that dwarves live 2.5 times longer than tall men but... they don't. They live 3.33 times longer. 2.5 would mean tall-men have the average life expectancy of 80, which real people do in Japan. So I think Kui just forgot that tall-men don't live as long when she wrote that. But that means there are two valid ways to calculate Dwarven maturation. For this I'll do both and I'm not sure which I prefer yet.
Marcille is stated to be roughly the equivalent of a 20 year old and I'm just going to role with that because her maturation is a mess.
So for Chilchuck, I just added 10 years to his age for his Tall-man maturation level, meaning he's basically a 38 year old.
For Senshi, I divided his age by the two numbers we have. So, going with the 2.5 estimation, Senshi would be 44, pushing 45. (44.8) But if we go with the 3.33 estimation, he'd only be 36.
SO if you take dwarven maturation at the 3.33 times slower than tall-man maturation then Chilchuck is the oldest in the context of maturation at his species’ equivalent of 38. If you take the stated 2.5 maturation rate for Dwarves then the eldest is Senshi at his species’ equivalent of 44. Laios is third at 26, and Marcille is the youngest adult at ~20-ish, and Izutsumi is 17 as she is just a tall-man with a curse.
