Charles had litteraly spent almost twice as long dead with Edwin (about 30 years) as he has spent time alive (16 years)
dead boy detectives not getting to be 20 episode long seasons like doctor who or supernatural where they have episodes just doing shit is so unfortunate because they could have done an episode where they have a case involving cowboys and we could have got charles in a cowboy hat listening to country music and using a bad southern accent
My red flag is that Iāll never forgive Simon, but Iāll defend Monty to the ends of the Earth

I always found the scene where Edwin notices that Esther's cupboard is too far forward really convenient.
Because sure, some people that work in certain jobs will learn to identify if something feels off. But like, how often is Edwin installing kitchens? Why would he have that skill? But I always just brushed it off as needing to progress the scene.

Except today I realised that of course he does! Of course he knows when something isnāt proportionate to plans. Of course he has the experience and skill to know that.
He developed it while mapping out Hell.
i feel like the way they say "i love you" is gonna be so different
like charles, he'll say i love you forever and ever and ever, and edwin will just hum along, pat his cheek, or maybe when they're saying bye and it's like "i love you, bye!!" and edwin is like "i'll see you, charles." charles just loves saying i love you!! he says it every chance he gets
edwin on the otherhand, doesn't say it as often. and i sort of think that it's not really because of his "old timey ways" but it's sort of like that. edwin is very particular about his words and how he talks and presents himself. so he'll have a response to every type of situation of "i love you" charles has and he feels it every time. but the reason he doesn't say it as often is because he really does love charles, and the weird thing that edwin has realized over the course of reading a whole lot (although not a whole lot) of romance novels is that the author really has to try to make the emotion pop out of them. and after reading those books, i think he's subconsciously took note (most likely from younger years) of two things "1) i love yous are big big things and they're supposed to be special and 2) it's said so often.
so knowing that these two boys, when they were alive, lived in hostle environments, i love you isn't said so often. charles' take on it is to say it every chance he gets because!! he can!!! and edwins take on it, is that he simply doesn't want the words to become such a version of obtuse that it doesn't have the same feeling.
so, everytime charles says I love you, edwin responds with actions and hidden words, and charles absolutely adores it because at this time he thinks that "he's SO old"
and then when edwin says it, charles literally needs to have a slowing down moment because. edwin. loves. him.
and one day charles is lounging on the couch and edwin is pacing and reading a book, trying to remember something the case and charles is in wait mode so he just says,
"you know, you don't say 'I love you very often,'" charles comments, then realizes that he should probably not finish off a sentence there, "no that it's bad! it's just- every time you say it, it's always like- and explosion in my chest, you know?"
and edwin doesn't even say anything. just pauses on his paces and looks at him, one hand balancing a book and the other was rubbing his lip. he snaps the book shut- for it was the one he needed- and walks up to kiss charles. charles sort of stares at him and goes,
"i love you," and he suddenly grins very hard thinking, god!! he always manages to make my soul feel so... clean and on fire at the same time.
edwin smiles down at him and says, "you know, every time you say i love you i always feel it. mostly it seems like a phrase passed around, just three words. but they hold a lot." edwin pauses, then decides, "so when i say them, i always make sure that they're new and special, and that there's more than one way to say it back."
i just love them
Shout out to all the Black ppl that can no longer participate directly in the fandom they love because of the stresses of racism šš¾ you contain multitudes of value and I'm sorry that the color of your skin and the power of your voice makes people not want to acknowledge that.

I had a dream... Where Taylor Swift said that dead boy detectives was her current favourite show... And the very next day, the views of dbda skyrocketed.....and Netflix revived the show...

Something I desperately need to see in a hypothetical season two is Edwin crying his eyes out (+1 if heās blaming himself for something) and Charles pulling him in, stroking his hair and telling him that everything is going to be alright
charles wears a necklace and an earring. monty wears a necklace and an earring. the cat king? literally fucking covered in bling.
edwin payne is 1000% turned on by men in jewelry and i will DIE on that hill
I just realized that Edwin might be the only human (or human-adjacent entity) who actually knows how Charles died.
Throughout the show, Charles never actually says what happened. We as the audience only know because of the Night Nurseās flashbacks. He never even alludes to the fact that he was murdered.
Even the bullies responsible wouldnāt really know how Charles died. They werenāt there for his last few hours. I mean, Iām sure that they put it together that they killed him, but they had no real way of knowing the details. Edwin says that the school covered everything up, so Iām assuming there was never an investigation or an autopsy. And Charlesā parents must not have opened an investigation either because we know his death was never solved. Iām not a lawyer or anything, but I feel like it would be a fairly easy investigation if anyone was actually trying.
Even Charles himself might not know exactly how he died. He didnāt even know he was dying until it happened. Hypothermia is pretty easy to figure out, but did he know about the internal bleeding? He kept insisting he was fine every time Edwin asked. I think that means he didnāt put it together.
Edwin, on the other hand, would have known. He knew Charles was dying and heās clever enough to know that itās very hard to kill a healthy teenager through hypothermia alone.
And Edwin was the only one who saw everything. He saw the bullies and he was there when Charles actually died. He was there to witness everything.
I donāt know, I just think thereās something romantic about it. Charles hates being vulnerable, but Edwin saw him at his worst. Thereās also something to be said for witnesses. Nobody else will ever truly know what it was like. Nobody else can understand. But Edwin can. He knows Charles in a way nobody else can and he loves him.

I noticed that in ep 4, when they watch the woman jump off the lighthouse, edwin and crystal have a similar reaction and niko and charles have a similar reaction. what does it mean? idk I just think it's interesting
Genuinely, hand over heart I don't know how I missed this, but on my most recent rewatch of season 1 I realized that, in episode 5, when Crystal says "I guess all three of us lost our lives to boys who went too far," she is NOT REFERRING TO HER, CHARLES, AND EDWIN. SHE'S TALKING ABOUT HER, MAREN, AND SHELBY. BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T KNOW THE DETAILS OF HOW EDWIN AND CHARLES DIED. I feel so dumb like I was always a bit confused about it before now like "That's nice, real raw line, I do like it, but wtf does that have to do with what you guys were just talking about??" Now I want to write a lil one-shot where Edwin and/or Charles are just like "That makes five of us, actually," for some sweet shared trauma bonding lol

Trying to distract myself from irl problems again and these two are a really good distraction
thinking about the people who vanished without a trace. The mutual who reblogged something as usual and never came back online. The friend on discord who just disappeared, and when you go to check on them their account is deleted and theres no other way to contact them
I look out of my window and hope you are okay, I wish you well and Im sorry I didn't get to say goodbye.
I hope we meet again someday but until then. Stay safe. Stay alive. Be well.

I did not think I could be angrier with Netflix, but it seems that they'll always find a way.
