What if Edwin, instead of telling Charles, "I love you. As more than a friend, I'm afraid. You don't have to feel the same way", said "You don't have to say it back" in a rush. And then– he has to cover his mouth because he did not mean to assume, Charles, I swear.
But Charles grips him by the shoulders anyway; delivers his speech as his thumbs caress the crook of Edwin's collarbones, sensitive as they are, and eventually says, "I will. I will. Just– give me some time to say it back."
y'all I love jenny just an honest, hardworking lesbian trying to run a successful small business, enjoy her secret admirer and maybe find love all while being like, the one adult in town doing her best to make sure two teenage girls are okay despite them being ON GOD the weirdest kids she's ever meet. the mvp truly

Edwin Payne and his silly little hand gestures Pt 1 | Pt 2
lotta talk about charles calling edwin “love” as a replacement for “mate” once they become an established couple and that’s all well and good and certainly tracks, but what I like to think about just as much is edwin starting to call him “my love” as his own equivalent.
(charles being utterly weak to this because in edwin’s melodic posh voice he sounds like something straight out of a jane austen novel or a fairytale. guaranteed way to make charles do anything at all: “won’t you, my love?”)
Real quick—does anyone want to lay down in a forest with me and become one with the moss?
