god, yeah. idk if they even have any basic chat bots in there to moderate and catch profanity/slurs. i don't see any in the initial users, so unless they're stuffed under the basic user category (which is miles long and i can't even scroll through it) then i don't think they do. that'd be the first thing i'd be doing after this, considering a lot of the issues were also due to letting slurs and phobia run rampant the least you could do is get a chat filter bot (unless discord has a built in feature you can do this with, but i wouldn't know for sure).

but yeah i think you pin pointed something that was bothering me but i didn't know how to word, they're saying a lot of damage control but aside from locking channels and banning the most egregious members, there isn't much going on. it feels very "ok we got rid of sam ([quietly] and also that other guy after sam..) so we're all good now and we're all good people i swear guys" only for someone else to be outed as phobic in some way, and then they do another "yeah but sam's gone so we're fine this time".

being LGBTQ+ is not a fuckin ideology??? ""think of the children""??? you could have easily just said "We would prefer to keep heated topics out of our server" and left it at that but instead we have mr "being LGBTQ+ and mentioning it is inappropriate for children!!".

Not to mention, you can be queer on the mod team and THINK fellow members are not phobic, and still be wrong. Personal anecdotes only go so far.

From what I heard, some mod members were banning users making pro trans statements while leaving alone those who were spouting transphobic nonsense. This isn't just an issue with Sam and the fact anytime the team makes comments on this situation, they p much only focus on him is a red flag to me. It feels as though they're trying to pin it all on him, or use him as a redirection from investigation of or observing of other team members.

Likewise, the statement that I SS that was deleted is full of transphobic rhetoric twisted into a veil of acceptance. I understand it was deleted for a reason, but I haven't seen any mention or update in the discord as to why, no apology for it, nor has anyone explained why that user was demoted from what I could find. I don't use Twitter, so perhaps it's located on there, but for now the sweeping of this statement under the rug with heavy focus on Sam remains suspicious to me from my perspective.

If there is a statement on this message, it's vague enough it could apply to the whole situation and I cannot discern what statement is about what.

The reason I didn't see this is because it was put into general instead of announcements where the initial SS were taken, which was still pretty active at the time.

I want to mention they did this to froslass too, citing that gender locking them "buffs" them as starters but this is ONLY in effect for femme vs masc leaning evos, rendering this argument null. Someone suggested allowing to select an Evo upon level up and I think that's an optimal solution that could even solve some of the other evos that are suffering from branch stone evos (like my fuckin poliwhirl)

Also fixing here likely means to affix, so setting it to 100% female, or that the people who changed it think they've fixed the split Evo this way. I don't think the user in this ss believes the gender ratio being set fixed anything, I included the ss because it's a great talking point about this subject and the... Larger subject.

Speaking of pokerogue, very weird they made gardevior female only and gallade male only, like it struck me as super odd. People are saying it's for a gameplay standpoint to make getting either easier, but that isn't done for the fact the drops for bellossom vs vileplume are interfering w each other. i keep thinking abt how like... at anime north this year, i could hardly find any artist alley merch of the OG YGO (and nothing for any YGO past that), and it took me forever to find anything FMA, and i barely saw Inuyasha, and I found a few TMM, or how I saw maybe 3 stalls selling Death Note related merch and it was very strange...

To go from going here and finding so much related to what I was into, to finding practically nothing from anime that's considered staples in the entire anime industry amongst fans, seeing it fizzle out like it was nothing. artists' stalls being half genshin because of the insane character roster and skins, and the other half being pokemon or demon slayer or BNHA. while I still love Pokemon, it felt like it was the only thing I could find. I made it a point to collect splatoon merch this year if i could, but even that was few which makes sense since it's a video game not an anime.

i saw more teletubbies and nostalgia stalls than i saw Yuugi/Atem, and I wish I was kidding/exaggerating

there's an odd feeling about going to an event I went to for my interests, and being into such huge anime, and seeing that it's become background noise compared to the mainstream these days. it felt more like I was looking at normie merch than i was looking at a dedicated event for the dedicated cultures and subcultures. there was more and more stalls dedicated to random things like cats and frogs than ever before, and while a lot of it was sooo cute and i did buy some, it does feel like the normie stuff is encroaching more and more into the space.
