This Far Into My Draft I Can Really See Darons Character Development. Im So Proud Of My Baby Girl. Look!
This far into my draft I can really see Daronās character development. Iām so proud of my baby girl. Look!
Chapter one Daron
Something sweet rose up from my chest but I promptly tamped it back down.
I did not take even a single glance back at the black-brick mansion. My path had already been laid out, and it led away from Spiritwalker Mansion. I would not be able to keep moving forward if my head was turned back, even for a second.
Daron now
āHow are you?ā I searched Catalinaās foresty eyes and found no judgment; none of the expectation for apathy that I was used to. I only saw compassion. It broke me further. āIt hurts.ā āI know.ā Catalina gently moved my head so it rested on her shoulderā¦and I let her.

šŖ½š« The Gift and the Ghostspeaker šš¤
On the planet of Zephan, three teenagers live their lives the way they always have.
Rhys Lucenāthe son of the worldās ruler, the Ghostspeakerālives in luxury with his family, including his secret and possibly cursed half-sister, Brynn. But when word gets out that three-year-old Brynn is alive, people start to panic and riot, and Rhys has to run for his and Brynnās lives, aided by the same Ghosts that his father has the Gift of speaking toā¦
Sterling Pierce and his sister, Sage, struggle to survive their abusive Mage fatherās magic addictionāwhich he feeds using them as an endless supply. But Sterling has the Gift of using magic as well, so when his father threatens to murder the siblings in a fit of rage, Sterling uses his power to fight backākilling his father, and nearly killing Sage by mistake. Now she needs a magic transfusion bigger than what any hospital on Zephan can provide, and there's only one way to gather moreā¦
Kairo Rayos is descended from a long line of Ghostspeakersāone that ended with his infamous immortal father, Lev, who started the Lunari Alliance to fight the Ghostsā rebellion against the Creator God, Solaios. Now Lev has been banished to the abandoned Blanklands surrounding Zephan City, and Kairo, thanks to a deal his father struck with the Ghostspeaker, is safe insideābut most Zephnic people donāt take kindly to followers of Solaios, especially immortal ones, and all Kai wants is peace. This kind of peace, however, can only come through the afterlife, and as his family and therapist are always quick to tell him, immortals canāt die. But when proof appears that they canāand have, as an immortalās dead body was found in the Blanklands, seemingly murderedāKai sets out to find the killer, and through them, eternal peaceā¦
As Rhys finds himself assigned a seemingly impossible task from the Ghostsākilling every living immortalāand Sterling teams up with him to collect the immortalsā magic for Sage, they discover that things are not what they seem on Zephan, and that they're included in a prophecy called The End of Immortality. The question is whether or not the prophecy is true, let alone morally rightāand will they find the supposed āchosen oneā, who happens to be trying to get himself killed?

ā ļøā„ļø Unsuited ā¦ļøā£ļø
The Game for the Unsuited has officially reopened - and Alana Hargreaves, a girl with no proficiency in any of the four Suits of magic, is the first of the chosen Pawns.
She has a plan to win the Game without playing by the rules; anyone who had ever won before had gotten in, gone a bit insane thanks to the Game's mysterious challenges, developed Sanity magic, and gotten out. But if everything goes according to plan, Alana - and her best friend, Penn, who was chosen for the Game the year before - will learn a different Suit of magic and, once no longer Unsuited, be allowed to go back home.
But as Alana realizes upon entering the Game's giant forcefield, there are two problems with her plan:
One, Unsuited Pawns aren't the only ones playing - in fact, the Game is practically ruled by a Queen of Hearts Mage, and she doesn't want any of her victims to leave.
Two, Penn has almost lost her mind already, but Sanity wouldn't be her first Suit of magic; she now wields the legendary, reality-altering Suit of Creativity.
As Alana investigates Penn's strange new abilities and befriends other residents of the Game - including the Queen of Hearts' messenger brother, Ace, and Charlie, the Game's built-in AI assistant whose origins are somewhat murky - she discovers that the reason for the Game is darker than anyone would have guessed, and that to make it out alive she'll need more than her sanity...but will she fight her way out, or give in and give up her mind in the process?
š©øš» Destined for Death š³ļøāļø
Nicholas Acker is a ghostāand a special one, because not every ghost can say they were killed by their best friendā¦who also happens to be a half-vampire-half-bloodwielder.
Jameson, said best friend, feels terrible for accidentally killing Nickāespecially considering that he just got engaged.
So Jamie does what any decent gentleman would do: set out to kill Nickās fiancee so they can be together in the afterlife.
But when Jamieās undercover-vampire-hunter twin shows up at Nickās funeral, bringing with him a whole new set of complications, and Nick runs into a teenage ghost with dreams of curing vampirism, they all have to team up to save themselvesāand all vampires with hope of becoming human again.

IT'S SPOOKY MONTH!! HERE'S A SPOOKY SNIPPET FROM SPIRITWALKER
The icy tiles warmed beneath my skin. No more waiting.
I pushed at the wall and the entire section behind the mosaic shuttered. My strange suspicion was correctāthere was a hidden passageway in the tunnelābut I needed more force to open the door all the way.
I pressed my other hand to the wall and pushed harder, straining the muscles in my back and shoulders. The wall moved inwards this time, rotating like a cog, until it was just a sliver between two gaps. There was enough room for a witch to comfortably walk on either side.
I gestured to Maya. āAre you coming?ā
The younger witch, ever loyal, followed me into the pitch black that awaited us. The smell of mold slapped me in the face, and I had to resist the urge to cover my nose in order to keep my grip on the wall. I stretched my foot as far as it would go, trying to gauge how far the passage went, but only felt emptiness. This vast, dark, unknown space should have frightened me, but instead I was struck with a strange familiarity. I had been here beforeāin my dreams.
Once we were both fully inside, I let go of the wall. Considering its weight, I assumed that it would gradually slide back into place. Instead it slammed shut, sealing me and Maya in the mysterious hole. I could hear her hands frantically scraping against the bricks, searching for a way out.
āWhat do we do, Lady Daron?āĀ
āI am sure that Ann Marie will open the door if we stay here for too long. As for the dark, you can leave it to me.ā
I slipped my spirit dagger out from its hidden holster with one hand and used the other to locate a wall. When I could feel the solid surface, I stuck the tip of my dagger into the stone. It cut through easily as the brick was so old it chipped and crumbled upon force. Muscle memory took over, carving out the rune spell for light for me.
All of the walls illuminated brilliantly, as if a star was hidden inside of them. Keeping my dagger in my hand, I surveyed my surroundings. The room was smaller than I suspected, only large enough to fit about ten people. Moss and mold grew on the walls and weeds sprouted from cracks in the stone floor. How long had this place been forgotten?
Mayaās gasp echoed across the walls and I turned to see what startled her. In the corner was what appeared to be a girl, but she had no skin, no color. Her body was solely light, occasionally sparkling with the intensity of her energy. I tightened my grip on my spirit dagger.
āHello,ā the spirit said. āI would introduce myself, but I do not know who I am.ā

Would you mind telling me a little bit about Catalina?
LOL I am finishing up her playlist right now. Great timing, friend!
Catalina is my mc, Daron's, best friend (even though it takes Daron the whole book to realize it). She's the daughter of a mistress, which pretty much equates to a duchess, and her mother is also the headmistress of the school all my characters attend. While Daron keeps a professional relationship with her mother and barely interacts with her brother, Catalina contrasts her by being very close with her mother and her little sister. Because of her relationship with her family, she serves as a mother figure in her friend group.
Catalina is an incredibly strong witch, but she has trouble believing it because Kelsee has been out to get her for years. Their families have been fighting for more power in their clan for generations, but Catalina's mother was over it and decided to run a school instead. Kelsee saw this as a bid for power and bullied Catalina into doubting herself and made their classmates believe it too, but don't worry, Catalina realizes her strength.
From the start of my writing, I intended for Catalina to have ambitions other than succeeding her mother as mistress--she thinks she suits a smaller lifestyle better--but I just added in an arc for her recently where she is put in a leadership position and learns that she is good at it. In the end, she decided she really does want to be mistress and lead with Daron, who has one of the highest positions of power in their country.
Catalina's the kind of person who always knows what to say so I gave her some of the best dialogue. A friend once told me that I have a kind smile, and I thought that was the nicest thing anyone's said to me so I wanted to immortalize it. In my first draft, Catalina already had a similar line so of course I gave it to her to say to Daron. She also says this line that was rated the best line in my wip from a poll I made: "We cannot be perfect. We can only be better."
Like other witches of the Herbneivorous Clan, Catalina's powers include being able to grow plants, tell their properties by touching them, and being able to eat poison. She's eaten so much that her blood's actually poisonous, but it's not much of a threat because she's typically calm and grounded.
Thanks for asking! That's Catalina.
