Trump’s presidency isn’t final. Candidates do not actually recieve electoral college votes until December 19 when appointed individuals (called electors) vote, which finalizes the presidency. Electors generally vote the way their state suggests, but they are only obligated to do so in 26 states. The electors can choose to cast their votes for any candidate. There’s more that happens should they choose to vote for someone besides the majority suggestion, but the point is that nothing is final until December.

Oh yeah, I’m not expecting Darren to be nominated either, but just reinforcing your point about how AHS is a respected show that gets a lot of important nominations. IMO the quality has progressively gotten worse each season, as per usual with Ryan Murphy shows, but Emmy voters ADORE it. (Granted, probably one of the reason why it racks up so many awards is likely because the TV Movie or Miniseries categories aren’t highly contested, but still. They do love it.)

Fun fact: American Horror Story is the show with the second most 2015 Emmy nominations (19), right after Game of Thrones (24). Their actors routinely dominate the Best Actor/Actress in a TV Movie or Miniseries regularly and end up competing against each other, Modern Family-style. This year, they have Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Denis O'Hare, and Finn Wittrock all nominated for acting awards.

In addition to Hayley, Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang on Smallville) and Jessica Alba (Susan Storm/Invisible Woman in the first two Fantastic Four movies) are other WoC in comic book adaptions who have been coded as white. Lana Lang was a particularly egregious example since she even found out in later seasons that her white father was not her real father, only to have her biological father be white too. So the show had two opportunities to make her multiracial like her actress, and they squandered it both times.
If Elodie Yung can be french and woc I don't see why Elektra can't be greek and woc and anyway they can't just say she's white when she's obviously not, there's no point and it wouldn't make sense.
Well now that I understand what the anon meant it is definitely possible to have a WoC as a character and still codify her as white, this post has some great examples of such.
But I will also add my own. Hayley Atwell. White passing WoC are still WoC and yet the media has a serious habit of ignoring that and just promoting their whiteness.

Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss) on Glee is kind of a weird case when it comes to whitewashing. They've made jokes about him being multiracial (a girl saying that they would have "vaguely Eurasian babies" together, another girl asking if Blaine is even from the US). His brother is played by Matt Bomer (white) and his mom is Gina Gershon (Jewish). His dad's never appeared onscreen, but his last name (Anderson) is arguably coded as white.
I'd still consider it whitewashing in spite of the offhand references to the actor's multiracial background because the majority of viewers are going to remember what his family members look like rather than a few offhand jokes about him not being white. I’m also sure he’s not the only POC actor to get cutesy nudge nudge wink wink references to their race written into the script while their character is otherwise coded as white. I don’t know if writers do it to sidestep potential accusations of whitewashing, but it’s really annoying.

Yes it is some form of whitewashing if a PoC actor is still coded or considered white. Some examples are Troian Bellisario who’s partly black but on Pretty Little Liars her parents are white. I believe Darren Criss from Glee is also whitewashed like this he’s part Filipino from his mother but onscreen he’s got white parents.

I think it’s sweet of you to worry about Darren and, yeah, there’s definitely always the risk of a mild/small incident getting blown out of proportion by the media. But tbh I don’t think this particular incident is gonna get Darren raked over the coals, since the media would’ve already picked up on it as “newsworthy” by now if that was the case.

You might want to check out these two links, because the incident in question is a lot milder than maybe what you’re hearing about? It definitely wasn’t an onstage breakdown and the net result was that the guy ended up with a Darren selfie on his phone and a mild scolding. Even the phone turned out fine, since it was chucked back at the guy and not thrown with force.
We wouldn’t have known how annoyed Darren was if people didn’t specifically ask him about it at stage door. He wanted to break the phone and settled for taking a selfie on it and tossing it back. That’s... not really a breakdown at all.

So I got called out for being bitter and mad because my fave wasn’t an “original” in the reblogs of the last post. That’s fine. I don’t think I could have escaped that claim, not with the somewhat inflammatory way I phrased things. I still stand by everything I said in my reblog and if anyone wants to continue calling me out on it, my askbox is open and anon is turned on, so there’s your welcome mat. I’m not gonna be directly reblogging the poster because I think that’s itching for a fight, but they’re welcome to bring it here if they want.
Maybe I am bitter and mad at my fave not being an original, you’re free to think that. But I’m immeasurably more bitter and mad at the Glee writers holding up the idea of the original cast and the first season (especially the front thirteen episodes) like some hallowed specter that they could invoke to supposedly add poignancy to whatever they were writing at the time, which is why I called it nostalgia bait. Especially since, with the exception of an episode or two (like The Quarterback), they increasingly ran out of new angles or ideas to explore with the idea of the “originals” and just trotted out the concept until it became meaningless.
And it was overrated, because nothing could ever measure up to the pedestal the writers had season one on. Promising to return to season one or be like season one again wasn’t going to fix the show’s narrative problems in later seasons. You couldn’t ever get the exact same mix of season one actors/characters and relationship/character dynamics back - the show had moved beyond that because casts and characters and relationships change all the time on a long-running show, and refusing to acknowledge the cast changes and work with the new material they had instead of always looking back on the good old days meant that the show could never really move forward.
Writers can become haunted by the idea of their past victories and that’s exactly what happened to the Glee writers, to such a degree that it contributed to the eventual detriment of the show.
(If anyone’s curious, my fave’s not an original and I don’t particularly wish they were since I think most of the originals outside of Finn, Rachel, Quinn, and Puck weren’t given all that much focus in season one anyway - Kurt, Santana, and Brittany would get more to do later on, but that wasn’t until season two - and yet the writers still kept acting like they highly appreciated all of their season one cast. That always made me roll my eyes. I was responding more to the implied idea in the confession that everyone should be holding the “originals” up in high regard and wanting to be an original. Because not everyone finds the idea of the originals being special to be poignant? I found the way the writers utilized it to be really gimmicky and a flaw in their writing.)
And I feel like the "original cast" idea is overrated nostalgia bait and a narrative crutch the writers overly relied on to paper over the insubstantiality of their plots. IDGAF about the concept so much that the s6 newbies could call themselves "originals" and I wouldn't raise a fuss because clinging stubbornly to the past while having nothing new to say ended up being way more detrimental to the show than moving forward and acknowledging new cast changes would have been.
I feel like Chord and Darren have legitimately convinced themselves that they’re apart of the original cast.
