Someone In My English Group Shared This Picture, And I Was Able To Identify This Little Guy. The Gonodonta

Someone in my english group shared this picture, and I was able to identify this little guy. The Gonodonta pyrgo is a species of fruit-piercing moth in the family Erebidae first described by Pieter Cramer in 1777. It is found in North America. Isn't it cool?

Might make a big post for each of my moth surveys (senior thesis project) with pics of all the cool moths I get but it would be soooo much more fun if people came into my inbox and asked me for a moth every so often. Like trick or treat but you get a random moth 👉👈

I need motivation to start identifying them otherwise I'll have to ID them all at once the day before I have to submit results bc I'll procrastinate real bad T_T

Anyway my highlight of the week is this big beautiful Modest Sphinx Pachysphinx Modesta!!

in case anyone was wondering about the moths I found at the PA state park ranger station last June, it was actually 8 (or possibly 6) different species that I found all within 5 minutes

I identified some of them, but not all

arched hooktip moth

white spring moth or fall webworm moth (unsure)

something in the symmerista genus (unsure)

light emerald moth

fall webworm moth or ermine moth (unsure)

rosy maple moth !!!!!!! 🥰

hickory tiger moth

this one really stumps me. possibly something else in the symmerista genus (unsure), possibly dead. also a lady beetle which I'm pretty sure is also dead

if anyone has any ideas for the ones I'm unsure about, hit me up
