There wasn’t much that you could control in your life.

Your father’s swings of fortune brought him into frequent contact with both businessmen in steel towers and the underbellies of the Korean peninsula. It was at some of these gatherings in your early teens that it dawned on you just how your father saw you - a prize cash cow to be sold to a great bidder.

You craved some normalcy that you could only witness through a TV screen or books - being able to go to a school and a cram school, enjoy studying with your friends, dress up, fangirl over your favourite stars, date, get scolded for your homework, confide in a teacher, find a hobby… everything that was stubbornly out of reach for you. You grew up holed up in a secluded and heavily guarded farm house in the countryside of Gyeonggi, with the house help and the security changing often, and your parents showing up when convenient which was another word for - rarely. Your mother chose to stay in Seoul with your father to “help him with business”, and here you were.

When approached with such a move in the form of a dare, only then did you realize how stupid the entire ordeal was. Now, there was nothing short of regret painting your every move. Only now could you realize how utterly stupid the idea was. 

On top of that it was something your therapist seemed to endorse after how you thought it would help you achieve the one thing you felt that you needed most.
