Differences between Novel/Manga!Dazai and Anime!Dazai

This analysis is an expansion to this post -> (along-came-atsushi.tumblr.com/post/190387561311) I made a while ago, to which @shin-hakuryu​​​ asked, if I could give some examples. So, I decided to turn this into its own post.

I’m aware that every anime episode has its time limit and needs to highlight certain scenes more than others, so that it’s still exciting to watch for the viewer. It’s a different kind of storytelling than the storytelling in a manga or a novel. I’m also aware that the animators need to leave out some things in order to highlight others.

Additionally, I want to point out that the anime didn’t portray Dazai out of character or something, and made a good job in general. But sometimes I get the feeling that the anime tries to idealize and refine Dazai’s original novel/manga version.

Please note that the following are just some examples of scenes and quotes from the manga and novels, as I haven’t read all of the novels until now, and listing all differences would be way too long.

Nevertheless, he would always ask you to commit double suicide with him.

Tbh I really don’t think Dazai is that trivial about the gender of his s/o regardless of his infamous “I don’t have such taste in men” line.

After all, the person you love is the person you love. (He would def say gender is a social construct). Fuck gender🙄

Life is too short to be hung up on who you like based on such trivial things!

He would always call you darling or belladonna (those are the classics).

Ofc he’d call you princess.

Once, he accidentally called you his ‘prince’.

He was so scared you’d be offended.

“I-I’m so sorry!...it slipped out of my mouth!” It was the first time you’d actually seen him stutter??😦😏

You’d laugh at his nervous reaction. You actually really didn’t mind that he’d called you his prince. A part of you loved it.

“It’s okay Dazai...I really don’t mind it! In fact, it’s kind of nice to hear...”

He’d exhale and gather you in his arms, kissing the top of your head.

“Ah...my prince. And my princess. My everything.”

You would each style each other’s hair.

Like, you basically both have the same length hair?? So of course you’d both fail at styling it.

He’d try to make little braids in your hair but end up making knots instead ಥ‿ಥ

You couldn’t even blame him cuz the pigtails you attempted to do in his hair looked way worse...(you’d take pictures to bully him later).

Nevertheless, you both took pictures together and couldn’t stop laughing until tears came out of your eyes.

Yosano would help style both Dazai’s and your hair tbh. (She’s so talented and hot marry me pls).

Sharing clothes? Absolutely. He’d wear your dresses, skirts, shirts, literally anything that would fit him. And you’d do the same.

Sometimes when you wore a suit and tie, he’d furiously blush and grumble out loud.

“Princess, I’m afraid to say you look better than me😤”
