Justice gives birth of Queen Pt 5

Justice cries hysterically. Her birthing plan included Julius holding her in a birthing pool in their living room. Julius missed the remainder of her pregnancy and now he is going to miss the birth. Justice has been so stressed out and unwilling to accept his calls. Her new reality of being a single parent has caused her to develop heart problems. Justice is in the operating room - daydreaming about the old days. Walking to the swamp to watch the fish with Julius. Seemed like it was yesterday. They used to spend every day together, until she got pregnant.

Dr April: Alright, Justice are you ready? Justice?

Justice: huh?

Dr April: Baby is about to be born.

Justice can feel her baby being pulled from her body, and all she can think about was Julius. Why did he destroy this family? What was he thinking? He should be here. In fact Justice doesn’t think she would have needed a C-section if Julius did what he was supposed to do as a man. He was a man of great words. He always knew what to say to make things ok. He made the simplest things feel like magic. Justice was grieving Julius while bringing in new life. She was traumatized. She eventually developed postpartum disassociation and depression.

Queen: waahhhhhhhh wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Dr April: Awwwwww Justice! Here is your beautiful baby girl!

The world seemed to stop spinning a hundred miles an hour when April handed Queen to Justice.

Justice: Omg .... *hysterically cries again*

Dr. April: Would you like to breastfeed her?

Justice just started at Queen. She had no words. Her physical pain was gone, but the emotional pain had just begun. She is a mother now. A single one. Though this child was made out of love, Justice doesn’t feel anything for her. She is disconnected and numb. She has completely disassociated herself from her baby girl, Queen.

A significant minority of women can suffer from postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder (PP-PTSD) following childbirth, in particular if involving obstetrical complications. While peritraumatic dissociation has been repeatedly shown to play a significant role in coping in the aftermath of trauma, little is known about peritraumatic dissociation in relation to positive adaptation following childbirth or failure thereof.
