diluc has always known that one day, aether's journey was going to finally come to end, and that he would return to traveling other worlds. still, that didn't make the departure any less painful.

he takes a breath as aether stares at him with those sunlit eyes, and diluc struggles to not tear up. he feels the warmth of aether as he pulls him into a hug.

diluc's lungs BURN as his heart swells with grief. he wraps his arms around aether and hugs him tightly — as tight as he can. he buries his face in the golden tresses, inhaling aether's scent. he stays like that for a good while before he slowly releases him.

he gazes at him, squeezing his hands before offering a smile despite it being tinged with sadness.

"well, i'm wishing you the best of luck, and... know that you're always welcome if you choose to return." he tells him, hoping that this truly isn't the last time he sees aether.
