Subconsciously, when the murder happened, the doctor felt so guilty that he decided to pursue a life full of kindness and helping people. While the master, saw the act of killing someone for him with adoration. The only way to defend himself would become violence. He learned that love, is expressed through violence (that if someone really loves you, they would kill for you). And he kept living by this.
