I love that in most shows the father figure is a random middle aged dude and then in Dead Boy Detectives it’s a goth lesbian butcher
Ok but imagine being so loveable that even the scary lesbian butcher who you've barely ever spoken to, who you once payed rent to using a jar full of coins, who gives literally 0 fucks to the point where she doesn't care that you're sixteen and don't attend school, feels the need to be a parental figure and console you after you set her up with a psychopathic stalker.
Niko really might be the character of all time.
Jenny is so mother in that she is a gay and cool woman also the looks, the blood, the meat cleaver but also so mother in the sense that she completely accidentally adopts two weird teenagers and a pair of very old gay ghosts who are emotionally stuck being teenagers.
About how dead are the dead boys? Are they super dead or just recently died? Can they get the alive detectives to solve their murders?
apologies for any uncertainty in my previous answer, I'll try clear it up. They are fully entirely and unequivocally dead and they have been for a long time, they are not in hell because of the power of friendship (and a legal loophole) and they are not in heaven because of a different legal loophole.
They all died many many years ago, except for the living girls who are alive (except for the one who was killed, but may not be dead due to the power of a mystical polar bear sold by an ex-walrus)
The alive girls also solve mysteries with them however nobody needs to solve the dead boy's murders as they know how they died (in a homosexual situationship and bullying respectively).

I reblogged a post a few days ago about costuming in Dead Boy Detectives, but I can’t find it now. The OP made comments about how Crystal’s clothing choices are so different after she lost her memories rather than before she lost her memories. Crystal Surname-Von Hoverkraft wore dramatic makeup, designer clothes, very body-con looks, acrylic nails, sometimes straightened her naturally curly hair. Presumably to look whiter.
Crystal Palace wears minimal makeup and comfy clothes which look like they’ve been thrifted. And she doesn’t straighten her hair.
Crystal’s post memory loss clothes probably WERE thrifted. She had no ID and probably no money on her when Edwin and Charles exorcized her. Whatever clothes she had besides what she was wearing at the exorcism are probably provided by Charles and Edwin. Who likely had limited amounts of cash. So she would’ve gone to thrift stores to find clothes to wear.

I miss dead boy detectives
small thought shortly after S1, Crystal asked Niko's mother if she and friends could have some of Niko's belongings. She agreed, so gang started considering what to have. Edwin reasonably picked out her books, not Manga, but those books turned out just another explicit BL novel. Jenny was most helpless one, everything was so colorful.
