He knew the feeling. Bucky hadn’t really thought he’d get out, either. Then again, Bucky hadn’t thought much of anything for a while. Sure, he had a brain and an inner monologue, but his thoughts were devoted to whatever mission Hydra had sent him on. But he knew the feeling all the same. “Yeah.” He knew all too well the training the Widows underwent. He’d helped train them, after all. “It’s tough. It fuckin’ sucks. But it—it’ll get better. Eventually.” He was still hoping it would get better.

riff is a jack sparrow-esque captain. everyone knows him and pretty much everyone that knows him hates him. he's known for being a big flirt and an even bigger nuisance. he tends to escape insane situations by nothing but pure luck, but those that know him know he’s smarter and a more skilled fighter than he lets on. he travels the seas searching for treasure and money and the occasional damsel to save.

dodge’s sister was hanged for piracy when he was sixteen years old. he’s now nineteen and has spent the last three years hunting down any member of the east india trading company that he can find. he’s determined to find and kill everyone that was responsible for dayna’s death, from the man that signed her arrest warrant to the executioner that pulled the lever on the gallows, and he won’t stop until they’re all dead.

art

art is an officer in the east india trading company. he reports to patrick zweig. art doesn’t like the trading company. he doesn’t want to be an officer, but patrick is using his relationship with art to get what he wants from art. art eventually runs away with his daughter, lily. he knows they have to keep moving, because not only is patrick looking for him, art’s wife, tashi, is hellbent on getting her daughter back. he flees to tortuga in the hopes that he can stow away on a ship and put as much distance between himself, patrick and tashi as possible.

Art doesn’t want to get dressed. Art wants to stay in bed for another three hours and do absolutely nothing except admire Johanna. He can’t, though. And he knows he can’t. They both know that. The girls could come in at any moment, and Johanna will need to go home soon. Still, he can’t help but be selfish. He thinks he deserves it, after everything he’s been through. And isn’t that a change? Art Donaldson thinks he deserves to be selfish. Someone should alert the newspapers. He pushes the thought to the side, watching as Johanna pulls her slip on. He moves across the bed and kisses her shoulder.

Hopefully they have longer than a moment or two. He settles against her chest, draping his arm carefully over her waist. “Thank you.” He knows he doesn’t need to thank her for holding him, but he feels like he should. On the worst days, he always hates his desire to be held, but he never hates it with Johanna. He presses a lingering kiss to the underside of her jaw. “It has.” He wishes she could stay until the morning. It’s impossible, but that doesn’t stop him from hoping.

act three, scene five: two lovers wake in a world not meant for them. the scene plays out the same. juliet will argue that it is a nightingale outside her window. romeo will say it is the lark. lovers will kiss. lovers will part. but johanna hears no lark nor nightingale outside. she is in the presence of a robin. she looks at art and sees the same resilience. survival despite harsh winters. she feels less like a juliet and more like the young boy sneaking out of a window. there is never enough time. the lark is already too early. but she glances at a clock and relaxes her shoulders. the girls are playing outside the door now. there is time for this.

❝ you'd better get dressed. i don't think it's long before the girls burst in. laura always has something up her sleeve. ❞ but johanna pauses at his simple request. is her paranoia playing tricks on her again? is her fear slipping through the cracks of her skull, making up reasons to leave when her heart begs her to stay? she is always flighty. always exhausted. can't she allow herself this one time? a pause before easing her slip over her corselette and drawers ( she likes it when she can feel art's gaze on her back as she does ). ❝ i'm sure we have a moment or two more. ❞ johanna slips next to him in bed again. a kiss to his shoulder. she lays his head against her chest. ❝ it's been too long, ❞ she whispers into his hair. it's been too long since i could stay.

i’d like you all to meet medusa. she’s art’s dog that he adopts and gets registered as an emotional support animal a year after everything happens. she used to be a show dog, and she’s won her fair share of competitions. art calls her em or lady m most of the time and he loves her immensely. she’s a very cuddly, very friendly dog that has no issue going up to strangers, but she’s also extremely well trained and probably won’t go up to strangers unless art gives her the okay. art has medusa in his post canon verse, his marvel verse, his ted lasso verse, and his dc verse (which is still a work in progress).

No. She hadn’t done anything wrong. Natasha had always been on edge around other Widows. She didn’t need to, and she knew it was entirely unfounded, but she was always scared they would see through her. She didn’t want them branding her as a fraud. She didn’t want them telling SHIELD about all of her failings. “No.” She shifted her weight. “You didn’t.” She didn’t plan on saying anything else unless she had to.
