Down to Agincourt - here we go

So, after several nudges (and someone finally sending me the author and link as well as the title!), I started reading/listening to my text-to-voice software [badly] reading @seperis ' epic Down to Agincourt series.

"You don't have to work this hard," Dean assures him uneasily; every instinct is telling him there is something profoundly wrong here. "I really don't like you already." "And my work here is done." Castiel lifts one shoulder in the impression of a shrug, like he can't bother himself to even make the effort to do it right. Dean didn't realize he started toward him until he's close enough to see Castiel's face, a blur-edged oval with skin bleached of all color in brutal contrast to smudges like bruises beneath shadowed eyes.

It's gonna be one of those semi-lethal brainworms that wiggles in and never leaves again, so I'm still getting flashbacks and random belated insights about it in 30 years time, isn't it?

what episodes of SPN didn't you like so much?

I don't remember having strong objections to any of them. I may develop some on rewatching! I'm not a great or patient audience when my mood is low, and I remember struggling to get to the end of... which is the one where we learn that Garth's become a werewolf and his mother-in-law turns out to be a homicidal nutjob hoping for Ragnarok? Sharp Teeth? And the (backdoor pilot???) one later that season, Bloodlines?

I didn't love the Abaddon storyline (much as I adore Alaina Huffman), or the British Men of Letters arc. Didn't love the Asmodeus storyline until Gabriel showed up and smote him. The past-time-travel storylines didn't do a lot for me.

I didn't actively dislike any of the above - more like I had no emotional response to them at all as I took them on board. On the whole, Supernatural got me good in some way with the majority of episodes. Even if it was just a moment of great acting or an aspect of the production that impressed me, there was usually enough of a reward to make me glad I watched.

I had a great time boxsetting this show! I think it's a mistake to approach any (network especially) TV show with the expectation that every episode will cater to my specific tastes, you know? That's no basis for fair critique, and it guarantees disappointment and frustration as a viewer. So much of Supernatural turned out to really hit the spot for me, against all the odds, that I was (and am) amazed and enchanted by the whole thing.

how many times did jack go “and now the doctor is going to show up and save the earth like they always do” but they dont, they dont show up, no blue box, no screwdriver, nothing, and it gets worse, abbadon, no doctor, 456, no doctor, the miracle, no doctor, do they care? do they really love earth, humans, like they say they do? maybe they’re only capable of loving one at the time, show them the beauty of the universe, let them burn bright before they burn out, but do they really love humans like you do? did they spend the last 200 years protecting the human race? not really, not like you did. you spent every waking hour praying to them to show up, because they solve everything with grace and wit, and everytime you try to solve anything you end up covered in blood, you succeed but it’s always at a cost, and they’re nowhere to be seen. do they care? maybe not, but you do, and you’re going to do anything to save the planet you now call home. and it’s ironic, right? they put you in this position, do they know? you’re immortal and stuck there, forever. you’re a fixed point in time because you have to be there, it’s your job, it’s your duty, immortality is not a mistake, it cant be, it has to have a higher purpose, right? right. so you wake up every day, shakes off those feelings of ‘they’re gonna come, one day or another’ and get to work, because no, jack, they’re not gonna show up, you have to save the earth, you have to remember everything they taught you, roll up your sleeves and do it. do it messily, but do it. save the earth, cause they’re not gonna show up. you learned your lesson, you’re alone in this.
