How I feel about this character

I RELATE TO HIM WAY TOO MUCH. He is literally me im just not as big of an asshole EXECPT TO ONE FRIEND. I am legit his Skippy and he’s Joe. 100%

Skippy’s character development/design is beautiful. He has a slow burn development that you kinda don’t notice, until you do. Just like Rodney McKay from Stargate. The parallels between Rodney McKay/John Sheppard and Skippy and Joe are all too similar. I’m convinced the author based Skip and Joe’s duo off of Sheppard and McKay. I’m also a SUCKER for the arrogant genius tropes. Skippy is my all time favorite character of all fandoms ever, which is funny bc that title had belonged to McKay which further proves my point.

Nagatha. Those two are freaking adorable. Nagatha and Nagatha alone. Sorry doll lol

My non-romantic OTP for this character

okay I really like Frey and Skippy’s friendship. The way she sings with him and makes him feel wanted and not like he’s a burden to talk to? Amazing. I’m here for it 100%. Also Skippy and Tripps! I would’ve KILLED FOR TRIPPS TO SURVIVE OH MY G O D. AHHHH. Also Skippy and Friedlander is hilarious. And Skippy and Joes mom. I can see her chatting away with Skippy over tea about Joe, Skippy tryna learn more about his favorite monkey and Joes mom tryna make sure Joe is doing alright and hearing about his adventures kicking rotten kitty ass.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

Home front was amazing. Seeing as it was written by skippy. My only problem with home front was the battle cries that’s it, I bore through everything else and loved it.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

I wish he actually snuck a puppy onto the ship…or had more heart to hearts with bishop…or yk…

I wanna hug him 😭😭😭 he deserved so much 💀 it’s not his fault he was born into a bunch of racist, god complex, lyin little worms! Honestly his queen reminded me of the Maxholx commander Reichert loll. Anywho I was so sad when he lost his eyes but also that’s really cool to visualize. He needs a scavenger companion.

I think him and Sunny are a-freaking-dorable! I haven’t read the series in a while but yeah him and Sunny I can’t change it it’s too good. Ik I haven’t branched out from canon much but sometimes canon is so good it can’t be changed.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

Star flight and Glory. The quiet, introverted, people pleasing bookworm and the loud, sassy, bulldozer of a queen. Love it so much. Also I feel like Starflight and Cricket would be such a great duo to follow.

indeed! I drew every single day all day 24/7 which is how I improved so quickly but also everyone has a diff learning pace. It may take someone way longer to pick it up than another person. I had really really bad perfectionism back in 2021, I just had to suck it up and get over it. Idk how I did, but I did XD. The point of art is to express yourself. The point of learning art is to improve. No matter what you draw how good or how shitty it is, it’s still SOMETHING. And that something, even if it’s absolute dog water, is better than nothing. It takes so long to get to a point where you like your art, you just gotta bear through until you get there and try your best to give yourself grace.

okay. Facial expressions.

I looked at ALOT of references, especially cartoonish references. Bc cartoons are often exaggerated and that’s exactly what you’re looking for to improve expressions. Whatever you think of for an expression, exaggerate it. Even if it looks silly or stupid or shitty, exaggerate it.

drawing Skippy helped me significantly with expressions because his face is pretty featureless so I had to focus on the exaggeration to get the emotions across better and in a clearer fashion. So try practicing on spheres as the head and then just draw eyes, eyebrows and the mouth. Also the shoulders speak wonders. If your shoulders are not expressive then the entire vibe is thrown off. Look on Pinterest for “cartoon expression references” that’ll help a lot bc they’re so…expressive lol. Exaggerate. Get it out there. >:D

I wanna see your art!!! Idc if it’s dog shit, I’ve seen your drawing of Daniel and tbh it’s legit like not as bad as it could be. Yes it’s “bad” but you’ve at least got basic anatomy and volume lol. So you’re at a really good starting point. If you’re not consistent and if you don’t practice every day it’s not gonna improve much. You got this <3

SG1 as text posts part 3

I should share some of my really old Stargate drawings 🤣 and just some of my super old drawings in general to show that when you’re a beginner it’s gonna suck, but you learn by doing. I wasn’t happy with my art for 3 whole YEARS. I started seriously drawing in 2019 when the world shut down 😭😂 it’s taken me almost 5 years to get where I am, and I’m one of the fast improving ones, so don’t beat yourself up too much about it. I’ve seen your art and i remember when my art looked very similar to that. Really brought back memories of me also being frustrated I couldn’t get what I wanted to do onto the paper. (If I don’t make sense it’s the Covid talking, I’m experiencing body aches, sever fever chill and brain fog lol bear with me) what I did to improve was trace body references, I traced and traced until I got the basic (still horrible) anatomy down, then I used visual references instead of tracing, so that I could pick out what I’m doing wrong and stuff. You imperceptibly improve with every single drawing, legit, like actually. Just keep drawing, fill those sketchbooks to the brim. I like to look at the first and last page of my sketchbooks and see how much I’ve improved. It’s a great feeling. You’ve got this, it’ll just take a bit >:3 and please post them I love seeing art on my fav tv shows and books even if they look bad. <3333 I hope I helped XD Ik I kinda gave unsolicited advice there lol I prolly should’ve asked
