this is the realest ohhhh my godd i cant stand it when people characterize newt as uwu shy nerd he never talks to anyone and then thomas is friends with everyone and needs help for his classes..... GET OUT !! thomas didnt spend the first, like, decade of his life being hailed amongst the most intelligent and scholarly of the newest generation for u guys to pretend hes a stupid jock !! and iirc he wasnt even well liked in the glade when he came in 😭😭 chuck and newt were the only people remotely friendly with him cuz he was annoying and clutzy and ugly !!!! that is not jock behavior !!!!! and newt was prob the most sociable of all the gladers !!!! he was NOT shy??!/???? at any point !!!!! and sure, he could be a nerd, but his nerdness doesnt even light a candle to thomas' intense nerdiness 😒😒😒😒 /lh

its also just entirely uninteresting when u place them in school settings not to actually explore what itd be like, but just to force them into a "stupid jock x shy nerd" trope when they dont fit into it organically. im all for corny tropes and cliche fic aus but not if it comes at the cost of the characters' integrity !!!

It's always so funny when I see modern!newtmas fics where Thomas is the popular cool jock typa guy and Newt is the shy nerd dude like noo ur getting it all wrong Thomas is literally canonically the biggest nerd ever and Newt is the cool kid with really big biceps (Thomas's words not mine)
