Dumb question ig, but are your monster engines limited to the rail tracks when they're,,, engines?

The monster engines aren't limited to rails as engines, plus they can twist and turn their bodies around to "steer" themselves but they are awkward and slower than they would be on rails. I just think it's funny to imagine engines just chilling off the rails and doing wacky shenanigans, like Salty climbing up Cranky like a weird giant caterpillar to tell him a long story.
