So… An AU? I guess?

II have this AU I’m writing for Twisted Wonderland I wanted to talk about. I have a habit of making Ghost AUs for any new fandom I get into, and so far TWST has not done my take on it from what I’ve seen.

So, allow me to introduce my AU.

Dorm Ghosts AU pt. 1

So my take on the AU is a tiny bit different. But I’ll get the mechanics out of the way.

1. Ghosts have two forms. First is their “terror form,” which is their Overblot sprite in game. This form is how they appear to most people and the one most associated with the legend. Then they have their “true form,” AKA their normal sprite. This form is only shown to people they trust, so it is rarely ever seen.

2. Each rumor has to due with the character’s unique magic (except for Idia and Ortho), and is tied to one of the seven deadly sins which I feel best suits the character. They each have the basic abilities of telekinesis, invisibility, intangibility, etc. Each spirit has its own unique ability to match. (Exceptions to this are Ortho, who has no unique curse, Deuce who isn’t tied to a sin, and Ace who has neither.)

3. It isn’t 100% done as I don’t know what will come of Malleus, but I have a feeling Malleus is the next to overblot since he’s twisted directly from Maleficent.

I took a lot of inspiration from the ideas of japanese urban legends like Hanako-san, and the concept of the “Seven Mysteries,” in different supernatural animes. Some (specifically Vil, Idia and Ortho) are inspired by actual legends and/or paranormal horror movies.

So I think I’ve explained it as best I could, onto the plot.

Base Story

The base story follows the main protagonist (be it Yuu or an OC, your choice) trying to navigate their newly found ability to see ghosts. Ever since they started attending this place, they’ve noticed entities roaming the hallways and it’s starting to freak them out a little.

Each “book” revolves around a problem being centered around paranormal activity, and the main protagonist along with the current side protagonists must find out how to solve the issue, why the spirit is still here, and hopefully put the issue to rest.

Once they do, the spirit themselves is given a choice. They can stay at NRC so long as they promise not to continue making trouble, or they can leave to rest in the afterlife after their unfinished business has finally been resolved. If they do decide to leave, they cannot return. They could visit in dreams, but even then they don’t have a lot of time to spend.

Now that the main story is explained, here’s a short description of all the ghosts. If people like this enough I might write out the actual story plotlines and probably finish introducing the other ghosts. Keep in mind Greed is left out until we know what’s gonna happen after Ignihyde’s arc.

❤️ Ace Trappola ❤️

“Don’t drag in any kind of trouble again, alright? ‘Cause I’m not helping you out this time!”

Ace does not have a terror form

True Form

Sin: Ace is not tied to any specific sin.

Unique Curse: Not Available

Cause Of Death: Crushed under rubble.

Rumor: Ace doesn’t have a rumor quite yet, he’s working on it though. He and his rival/buddy, Deuce Spade, are new to the haunting scene and Ace desperately wants to make a name for himself.

But for some reason, nobody takes Ace seriously. No matter how noisy he is, no matter how spooky he tries to be, he’s basically the laughing stock of the ghosts. While he never gives up his dream, he is a tiny bit insecure that no matter how hard he tries, nobody seems afraid of him.

Trivia:

- Ace stands out in the crowd, not having a rumor or unique curse to benefit his scaring abilities.

- That being said he’s still a poltergeist, and a noisy one at that. Though compared to Riddle he can come off more obnoxious than anything.

- Ace has 0 recollection of how he died, and is kind of a stinker about wanting to pass on. He gets snooty anytime someone mentions the idea of crossing over to him.

Maybe if he and Deuce didn’t try so hard, then it’d come off more naturally.

♠️ Deuce Spade ♠️

“Stop it, I don’t like being prodded at so much. …Hey, are you sure you heard me?”

Deuce also does not have a terror form.

True Form

Sin: Deuce is not tied to any sin, just like Ace.

Unique Curse: His unique curse is revealed later on, it allows him to absorb incoming magic and then inflict the pain on the original caster(s) twofold. This makes him fairly resistant to exorcisms and spells as a whole.

Cause Of Death: Blood loss and exhaustion

Rumor: Unlike Ace, Deuce has 0 interest in haunting. He’s actually very sweet and wants to be helpful rather than frightening to other students. However he is a bit clumsy, and tends to not be able to read a room, and thus often scares people on accident.

He tries to keep up the act of a good boy, but when things get heated he might code switch on a dime to a more aggressive, moody character ready to fight at a moment’s notice. He doesn’t get along that well with Ace and frequents Ramshackle when he feels ashamed for scaring a person half to death.

He is a nice guy though, and has never hurt a single person since he became this.

Trivia:

- Deuce and Ace, though they don’t like each other, are seen together often. Deuce usually keeps Ace in check.

- Deuce is extremely awkward when it comes to actual hauntings, making him similar to Ace in that regard. When either of the boys tries too hard, they make a fool of themselves.

- Deuce is extremely lonely, he longs for his mother and wonders how she feels with him gone. His mother is one of the few things that gets him to lash out at people.

🌹Wrathful Riddle 🌹

“Off With Your Head!”

True Form

Sin: Wrath

Unique Curse: Can latch on a special collar which negates any usage of magic, and can only be removed by him.

Cause of Death: Blunt force trauma from years of abuse.

Rumor: A devout rule follower, this spirit seems to have memorized all 810 rules of the Queen Of Hearts and is fixated on making sure they are followed to a T. Although he cannot leave Heartslabyul that doesn’t mean you’re safe just by leaving the dorm.

The moment you come back he will gladly punish you for your disobedience with a curse that disables your magic usage until you confess your fault or apologize directly to him.

You listen in paranoid shock as you hide in your room, covering your mouth and whimpering as the sound of heels against the tiled floor reach your door, it is silent for a moment, you close your eyes in terror until there’s nothing but the sound of a draft. When you open your eyes, you sigh in relief to see no one there, until a staff is placed around your neck and you gasp in shock.

“Did you really think you could hide from my punishment? How foolish of you. You should know what happens to rule breakers around here…”

“OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!”

Trivia:

- He is the only ghost who is 100% bound to the dorm.

- He tends to follow around Trey Clover the most out of everyone, yet has never punished Trey as long as anyone has known about it.

- Riddle can take off his head at will if he wants to, making people assume he was decapitated.

- He still lingers the school because of his conflicting mental state, while he does desire order, he never is truly happy with being in absolute control, unable to face the issue, he takes out his frustrations by being strict with students in the dorm.

♌ The Prideful King ♌

“The king, huh…?”

True Form

Sin: Pride

Unique Curse: Can turn whatever he touches into sand, including people.

Cause Of Death: Burned Alive

Rumor: The Prideful King is the resident jerk of the main 6. Lazy, arrogant, gives people heart attacks for the fun of it. That being said his sin is not pride without reason.

According to the students of Savanaclaw, he plays favorites and believes himself to be the best of the best. Dare insult him, or someone he decrees as his “favorite,” and a very sandy punishment awaits you. Whether it be your stuff, or your body.

He also HATES loud noises, so best keep quiet during the night, unless you’d like to be silenced by force.

Trivia:

- Leona tends to bounce where he’s tied to frequently, and usually it’s the place or person who takes the least amount of effort to haunt.

- He doesn’t get along with most of the others due to his competitive nature.

- His unfinished business is self worth issues. He feels like he will ultimately amount to nothing, so there’s no point in trying. So he barely works hard at anything, but gets offended when called out on his laziness as he sees himself as infallible.

🌊 The Gluttonous Sea Witch 🌊

“The sea, the land—all of it will be mine!”

Terror Form

True Form

Sin: Gluttony

Unique Curse: Though it requires a magic item to control, he can remove someone’s magical abilities, the contract he uses balances it out by trading the magic for something else.

Cause Of Death: Impaled through stomach by blade.

Rumor: While friendly at first glance, this shady fellow wants nothing more than to be the “perfect” being. He wants to have all the talent he can get his hands on and will scam people in unfortunate situations to get it.

He appears to those with insecurities or big aspirations and asks if they want to make a deal with him. If they agree to sign a contract, they’ll lose their special talent(s) in trade for something else. When people realize they have been scammed, it is far too late.

“It won’t cost much dear, just your voice…”

Trivia:

- Azul struggles to move around in his terror form on land, and thus is the only spirit who tends to manifest in his true form to others instead.

- He also seems to have a suspicious bond with Jade and Floyd Leech, and the twins seem to know about his existence. Maybe they’re part of his whole deal?

- Azul is highly embarrassed about his past, and desperately tries to avoid the subject any chance he gets.

🐍 The Lustful Jinn 🐍

Terror Form

True Form

Sin: Lust

Unique Curse: The Lustful Jinn, AKA Jamil Viper, is quite different from the others. Instead of affecting the target directly, his curse brainwashes whomever has the misfortune of locking eyes with him. It turns them into his slave, doing whatever he commands without a second thought. 

Cause Of Death: Food Poisoning

Rumor: Under the cover of darkness, Scarabia students lay in silence. Sleeping peacefully under the stars. In the hallways the faint sound of hissing echoes throughout the dorm, golden accessories clinking with the sound of footsteps following. Patrolling through the night, he catches sight of a student foolish enough to still be awake. 

He slowly slithers his way up towards the unknowing student, wrapping their arms around them and asking questions in a calm, gentle tone. “Why are you still awake?” He says as a faint hiss hits the ears of his unsuspecting victim. It becomes so hard to resist, he seems so patient and caring, you feel your conscious beginning to slip away as your eyes begin to blurr as he continues telling you sweet whispers.

The last thing you remember seeing before you black out is slit-like eyes staring down at you, “Shh… It is alright now, sleep, my pet.” He whispers, as a pulse of energy obscures your vision and you black out. You are his pet.

He is your master.

Trivia:

- Jamil REALLY does not like Scarabia’s current dorm leader, and seems to get extremely angry at mention of him. 

- He is very lowkey in his hauntings and curses, half the time people aren’t even aware something paranormal is happening to them because of how subtle he is. 

- A master manipulator, able to win over the hearts of most anyone he interacts with, to the point there have been odd cases of students proclaiming to have fallen in love with them.

Well that’s everyone so far, this is just a small introduction to the AU, I don’t have all the plots defined yet and there’s still a total of 3 more ghosts to introduce, so if this gets enough support I’ll do a part 2 with the last three and maybe the plots I have so far if I feel like it.
