Embracing the LGBT Community in Mongolia – World Learning – Medium
As part of a series on the Leaders Advancing Democracy Mongolia (LEAD Mongolia) program, World Learning sat down with program participants…

This shows us that although my homelands still aren't the safest places to be such, our situation is gradually improving. I personally don't think it to be bad to be LGBT (unlike many ultra-nationalists around my lands), but am straight & willing to help live normally. It's unlikely that we'll become a paradise for same-sex marriage any time soon, but it's still a good step to help us understand LGBTs abroad especially leading normal lives. As a guy, I prefer women & that likely won't change, but I'm not going to force this preference upon anyone. As such, let us remember that there's worse fates than what we have about them in our lands. Bayarlala.

Sad, but at least it isn’t as severe as what the Ainu here are facing currently, especially in Nucasir (Russia).

Okinawa is not your playground.

There’s a phenomenon in Okinawa where some mainland Japanese people move to the island because of its weather, charm, and culture, and then try to alter it to their comfort–alter things that were and have been for YEARS before they moved. It’s an entitlement they bring with them.

Example: Eisā is Ryukyu drum-dancing that is performed often in a parade style that takes place during the Fall Harvest Holiday of Obon. Okinawa’s Obon is a different tradition from Japan and more extravagant. (Ryukyu culture follows the lunar calendar.)

Months leading up to Obon, after dark, you can hear the young adults after work rehearsing Eisā at local community centers. Hearing the bass of the drums echo through the neighborhood is a typical and heartwarming Ryukyu summer night. Because these volunteers have day jobs, this is the only time they can rehearse.

Mainland Japanese people new to the area in my neighborhood have put pressure on the local community center and government to ban these night rehearsals because of noise complaints. But local people are passionate about their culture and are resisting this pressure to change.

Example: Expensive ugly condos being built along the coast to obstruct access and views of the ocean.

Example: People collecting and taking home shells from the beach to make their own crafts. This is illegal in Japan. Only those with specific approvals from the prefectural government can collect and sell shells and sand and any other thing from the beaches.

Tourism is indeed the largest industry in Okinawa. And I’m not arguing that people need to stop visiting. But there is a way to enjoy Okinawa without disrespecting it’s people, history, and culture.

Ainu Recipes: Kombu Sito

image

From Hokkaido Magazine Kai website blogpost, Learning Ainu Cooking from Kaizawa Yukiko, written by Yajima Azusa. Photographs by Tsuyuguchi Keiji.

A dumpling made using proso millet and rice flour, a sito is an Ainu food handed down since ancient times and eaten at ceremonies of important ceremonial occasions for family relations and iyomante (the Ainu Bear Festival) ceremonies. Yukiko Kaizawa, the leading person involved in the weaving of attus, a textile made from tree bark, taught me how to make sito.

As hard to get these are, I'd be happy to make something like this for family or friends.

Rusty Nail's Recipes

Today’s honoree has gone through more in her short life than most. It is not often, Dear drinkers; patrons, ladies, and gentlemen, that I get to put forward something for an individual as deserving as today’s. She has been through hell and high water to finally find some degree of peace, acceptance, and family. That she has managed this, and to find not only this, but the strength of character to forgive her accusers and abandoners is nothing short of that which is attributed to saints, and mothers.

Ladies and Gentlemen…

Rusty Nail's Recipes

It’s Motherly Scootaloo!

She’s survived an escape from a hospital, a murder trial, and an unspooling timeline; not to mention the tutelage of Factory Scootaloo; I can think of no greater way to honor her than the art I practice best.

A Motherly Scootaloo Ingredients:

    2oz Captain Morgan’s Private Stock

    2oz Southern Comfort

    6oz Pineapple Juice

    Ice

    Chilled Collins Glass

    Orange Wedge

    Grenadine

Special Equipment: A Shaker. Making a Motherly Scootaloo:

Pour Rum, SoCo, and Juice into Shaker.

    Add ice.

    Shake well

Place ice in Chilled Collins Glass.

Pour contents of shaker into glass.

    Add wedge as garnish.

    Add dash of Grenadine.

    Drink!

You’ve just finished making a Motherly Scootaloo!

This drink cuts back on its overall sweetness for a taste of tart with the use of pineapple juice. This, combined with the peach flavor of the southern comfort will produce a taste that is a twang of fruity contrasts, but also will produce a hue quite similar to Motherly Scoot’s.

Keep sending in suggestions as to who you’d like to see made into a drink, and Stay Thirsty, my friends!

I very much would like that here, especially since I have many OCs from different media. I have more than a few stories in progress to choose from, especially mlp 1s & crossovers thereof. You can find me on fanfiction.net under Zenhersetgel for some of mine, but warning: has been untouched for a while. Even so, you can message me if on either site, & I'll respond when possible.

Reblog if it's OK for other artists to draw your OCs

Sometimes I get too timid to send asks to ask. I want to see how many people are ok with artists drawing their OCs!
