An open note to readers of fanfic
Sometimes I stare at the computer screen when the words don’t want to come and I think, “Fuck, who am I kidding? This is terrible writing, and this story is shit, and no one cares, anyway.” And I close the window and go do something else.
But every now and then I get an amazing, heartfelt, beautiful comment from someone who loved something I wrote, and it reminds me that, at least for that one person, I did write something worthwhile. And so I open the window again and I write one sentence, and then another, and then I start to find my way again.
So on behalf of all fanfic writers everywhere, I want to say thank you, thank you so much, to all of the readers who take the time to leave a comment and tell us that something we wrote mattered to you, that it brightened your day or made you laugh or cry or get horny or whatever.
Please don’t think we’re ever bothered by your comment, or that we don’t want to hear it, or that what you have to say isn’t important enough. It means so, so much. And on some days, it’s what keeps us going.
Now that this has become a topic of discussion (again) there’s something I gotta say…
Honestly? I have some problems with Ellie’s part 2 design. Not because it’s a bad design, but because of a completely different reason:
Ellie in TLOU part 2 is nineteen years old. After the time-skip she’s 21-22.
Ellie in Part 2 is a Hollywood teenager. Plain and simple. And I know people are going to hate on this because they love Ellie’s character design, and it’s not that I think it’s bad, I just think it’s important to acknowledge that it isn’t realistic.
I’ve seen so many ways people have tried to justify it, saying things like “well stress and lack-of-food make people look older”. Yeah, they do. What they don’t do is turn people into models. Stress doesn’t give them perfect cheek-bones and plush lips—it gives them wrinkles. A couple scars doesn’t make someone look realistic—especially when they’re precisely placed as to keep the sex-appeal at a maximum. Ellie in TLOU part 2 was absolutely designed to be attractive and appealing to people. The design wasn’t made to be realistic, the design was made to be marketable.
It’s absolutely fine to love the character design, what’s not fine is to expect people to look like it and be mad that they don’t.
Bella Ramsey looks like a real nineteen-year-old. Bella Ramsey looks like a human. Bella Ramsey didn’t have their appearance designed pixel-by-pixel and shown to focus groups and adjusted so they could look good to as large a range of people as possible.
People look like people. Get over it.

30: fic you’re especially proud of
I mean, it’s gotta be ‘Skin’. It was my first completed longfic, and honestly I’m just really proud of my writing for that one. I’m trying really hard to keep Scars at the same level of quality.
Also, I adore ‘AbelCode’. I’m not far into it, but I love writing it and I love how different it is to Skin. It definetly helps me not get bogged down in the angst of my other writing haha
11: WIP you’d like to finish one day
Ghosts. I love it and I’ve had parts of it written in Google Docs for so long but I genuinely think by the time it’s finished it could be like… one of my fave fics I’ve ever written.
18: share a deleted sentence or paragraph from one of your fics
Ooooh, okay. So for context, originally Joel was with Ellie for the entire last chapter of Skin. So they got caught by James together, but he wasn’t killed before David got there.

15: favorite place to write
Honestly I’m a boring introvert. My bed lol. I just lay in my bed and write disturbing things because what else can I do with my life?
16: favorite weather to write
Rain rain rain. Rain > literally everything else
(Maybe 15 is 16 and 16 is 15 idk lol)
