A birthday gift for @moonspirit !!! Wrote a little drabble to go alongside this as well, for better context.

Christopher squints at the newspaper in his hand, as if the photograph would sharpen on its own after witnessing his effort. No less than a miracle is needed here, to fix a photograph taken by a semi broken camera and printed by a semi broken press.

There's rust everywhere.

Though perhaps, just the fact that he's holding a newspaper at all is a miracle. That he was one of the lucky few who caught a train and escaped. That his family lays in pulps somewhere, while he sits cross-legged on the ground, staring at a fucking newspaper.

"Armin Arlert, pictured with former female titan, Annie Leonhardt." He says the name printed just below the blurry photograph, tongue twisting as he struggles to pronounce these foreign, Eldian names.

"Savior of humanity." He grumbles, before the ration bell rings, and the newspaper is forgotten.

the widespread audacity of people using ai art despite them knowing that the algorithms are fed existing pieces by non-consenting artists who spent time and effort to create them is, what i only now realized, fueled because being an artist has never truly been accepted as a job. you hear it from childhood till you're an actual working artist, if you're not talked out of it by then

every single artist i know who actively practices their craft as their means to an end spends unfathomable hours from research to assembling required information before finally getting to the drawing part, not including refining and revisions. most of us, even the very lucky ones who are generally recognized for their talents, are nearly always underpaid for the amount of work required

if we were considered on the same level as any other job out there, i think people would think twice about defending ai art, or at the very least, the percentages would be flipped. right now, even the biggest of us are widely viewed as hobbyists. and there lies the problem, yea?
