this is a more complicated answer than it initially sounds like, but it boils down to: it was the coolest thing to do at the time.

fabian’s relationship with his dad is defined by its hero worship and the intense projection that came along with it. bill seacaster, in fabian’s eyes, is everything a person should aspire to be: daring adventures, cutthroat skills in battle, secret trysts, dramatic escapes. imagine never getting to grow out of that phase as a 7-year-old where you want to be a superhero, and it hasn’t quite clocked with you all the crazy shit that would come along with being a superhero. that’s the life fabian has lived.

fabian has spent his whole life dramatizing & aspiring to the person that his dad is, and his dad is quite literally a character from peter pan. he has carefully maximized himself to look As Cool As Possible all the time, with the specific intent of gaining validation from his dad.

but fabian is not bill seacaster. it takes all season to acknowledge it, but fabian is kinder, more compassionate, less gold-obsessed, and most importantly, sixteen years old. fabian has lapses, and craves his dad’s love, and gets gifts for his friends just because he loves them, and asks how fig’s dad fucks just to make fun of fig. he is good, in ways that bill is not, and an important part of his arc is the realization that he doesn’t have to be just like his dad.

fabian killing his father satisfies both of these arcs. it’s a fuckin Storybook Moment - narrative parallel to bill talking about killing his own dad, the story of the Son Growing Past The Father’s Influence, just a fuckin Big Swing in general - but it is also an act of mercy, in that it is the storybook ending bill seacaster wants to have. fabian killing his father is a triumphant fairytale moment of cycles and stories, and it’s what bill wants - to go out dramatically, in flames, with explosions. but it is done on fabian’s terms. it is a kindness.

in the moment fabian kills his dad, he is concluding two separate storylines. he is giving his father exactly what he wants. but he isn’t doing it for glory or gold, the reasons his father did it; he’s doing it on his terms. he’s beginning the process of redefining his dad’s legacy for himself to something that he can shape with his own hands to be kinder and more open.

I just wish I had a reason why, but they don't owe us that and if it was Woojins decision because of private reason, then it is so.

Someone help. I'm emotional.

This news came out of left field. I mean, I knew something was up when skz went silent. I just never expected this kind of news.

If you're not on Twitter or got the notification on VLive, Woojin has left the group and the company due to personal reasons. There's not a lot of information to go off or to know at this point since it just got released.

Whatever happened, I just hope Woojin is okay and is happy.

Riz Gukgak HCs

Given how little sleep he gets, Riz is able to conk out pretty much anywhere at anytime. He also has an eerily good internal clock when it comes to napping, which means that he can say that he’s just going to sleep for five minutes, and he will. When he gets his own office above the apartment, he particularly likes sleeping under the desk. Nobody can see him when they first come in, and it’s comforting to be protected like that.

When the others find him the day their quest for the crown is supposed to start, they try to wake him up. He’s usually a pretty light sleeper so they don’t expect it to take much, but when he doesn’t wake up after Fabian throws a balled up piece of paper at him, or when Kristen shakes his shoulder, they start to get worried.

He likes watching bad police shows with Sklonda, where she points out all the procedural issues and Riz mentally takes notes on what to do, as well as what not to do. He does like the confidence that those cool detectives have, despite – or maybe because of – their flagrant disregard for the rules, and Sklonda has walked in on him practicing their catchphrases more than once.

It became their little tradition after Pok died, and comfort to Riz is sitting next to his mom on the couch, snacking on microwave popcorn mixed with candy, and watching detectives that take themselves too seriously.

Riz likes to chew on things while thinking, usually the side of his thumb or whatever poor writing utensil he’s holding at the moment, but on one memorable occasion he got lost very deep in thought and started gnawing on the side of his magnifying glass. He did accidentally chip one of this teeth, and refuses to tell anybody what actually happened.

He is also used to eating pretty much anything, and he and Kristen are team Will Eat Anything against Fabian and Adaine’s Specific Food Preferences

As a kid, Riz would always hide around the apartment – and, considering the size of the place, the number of places that he disappeared to was pretty impressive. He was a fan of hiding in cabinets or under furniture, but one one memorable occasion, he got a nat 20 and managed to wriggle his way into a vent, staying there for a couple hours as his parents searched for him. 

Riz tells his mom pretty much everything, and when he gets very into something new or is close to cracking a case, he will talk at her, both so that he can work through it and because he loves her and wants to keep her in the loop. She always told him that if it was important to him it was important to her, and she did mean it, but that also resulted her learning more than she ever expected to know about how hundreds of years ago they put arsenic in the wallpaper.

Most of the other Bad Kids are baffled by him having a legitimately good relationship with his mom, but Gorgug gets it. 

Fig acts like she doesn’t really care – poorly, as always – but she does ask Riz what it’s like to be so comfortable with his mom, and maybe, not like she needs to know, but also how they got to that point.

oh, let me TELL you! i’m not a huuuuuuge fanfic connoisseur (and i have…..SO much in my “marked for later” section) so this is by no means comprehensive but these are my favorites:

Dimension 20:

if you look for fanfic for this fandom you’ve almost certainly run across @riz-gukgak‘s Saint Judas, but that’s because it fucking slaps. Post-canon adventure Fabian/Riz with strong plotting and incredible characterization of all six characters and. it just rules. it’s everything you look for in a fic. I also adore their fabriz one-shot “can’t die if you’re already physically in hell,” which just nails the “person A is injured and NOW we’re finally actually thinking about our repressed feelings” trope.

“Healing Without Magic” by @thesleepiestsheepy sees each of the Bad Kids in therapy sessions with Jawbone, and is just absolutely killer for character insights and all the best gentle angst and healing and Jawbone, ah,

“ease my mind” by @the-ipre is my favorite Kristen/Fig fic and just really nails what it’s like to be a sapphic teen who can’t do makeup and is having a lot of confusing feelings about your supposedly platonic friend and it’s very important to me because of that

“aqua vitae” by @she-hulk is a Sophia/Em fic that absolutely blew me away, the writing is just SO good and it’s such a beautiful look at healing and grief and hope. catch me crying over a koi pond.

NADDPOD:

anything @beverlytoegoldv writes is fantastic, but my personal favorites are Prodigal Sister and Quiet Moments and The End of the World. beautiful character exploration in particular…..ah

anything @thesleepiestsheepy writes is ALSO fantastic and will absolutely rip your guts out in the best possible way. my favorites are Luck Dictates (especially chapters 5, 7, 8, 10, and 11) and Geodes. you will voluntarily let your heart be broken multiple times

I’m OBSESSED with alouette-des-champs’s modern AU series “Youth of the Nation,” every single part of it is so good. So many things that I didn’t think would translate to a modern setting totally do and there’s so much depth to it. 

Critical Role:

“Only the Nightingale Sings” by @mithrilwren is EVERYTHING to me. found family and a fascinating plot and the most beautiful exploration of the characters and just everything you want from a fic, i’m equally excited that we’re getting to the climactic chapters and sad that it’ll be ending soon.

if you haven’t read “AFK: a critrole MMO AU” you GOTTA. my process reading this fic can be summed up by “huh, what a weird concept. I wonder why this fic about Vox Machina playing an online RPG has so many kudos–oh.” I opened it to link it for you and accidentally re-read the first chapter. it’s so good. 

I think about “A Mote of Possibility” like once a day at least. “nine ways Caleb and Nott did not meet the Mighty Nein” and it’s. it’s everything.

“out here in the dark” by @elsinore-rose is a widojest series that just…wow. WOW. it goes so many places you don’t expect it to and it’s sad and beautiful and so so so full of love.

Annnnnnnnnd, because we support self-love on this blog and because everything I write is inherently self-indulgent so I can honestly say my own work is some of my favorite fic:

My Fantasy High fic is called “Woe and Weal” and is an exploration of the time-skip that happens in the middle of episode 11! one of these days I will update it again!

I just finished a NADDPOD fic called “can i try again, and again, and again?” about Alanis time looping and trying to process Thiala’s betrayal and what she’s going to do about it!

I’ve only written short Critical Role pieces (so far) but “there’s something about the second watch” is about Fjord and Beau and the importance of hearing how much you are loved, and “they have to come back” is about Beau freaking the fuck out on the outside of the Happy Fun Ball while she waits to see if the others escape the dragon, and “hope and a spider” is about Fjord being held prisoner by the Iron Shepherds.

And basically anything else I have bookmarked on my ao3 account is something I adore and whole-heartedly recommend! go wild, anon.
