If Westeros had a news station Pt 3

I think the funniest thing is if Rhaenyra and Alicent were actually lovers during that ten year period, one of their kids would probably figure it out but no one would believe them.
Aegon: Today I saw Larys Strong trip on a rock. It was kind of funny
Aemond: I saw Ser Criston yelling at his sword when he missed a target
Jace: Lol. I saw Maester Gerardys accidentally walk into a wall
Luke: I saw mother kissing Queen Alicent
Aegon: âŚ
Aemond: âŚ
Jace: âŚ
Aegon: Buddy you keep making that joke
Luke: Itâs not a joke
Jace: I mean everyone has their own sense of humor so we shouldnât be mean
Luke: Iâve been trying to tell you guys for months
Aemond: Donât worry Luke we think youâre funny
Okay but like uspering the throne might as well be considered a Targaryen family tradition from how often they do it. Aegon was just one of the only ones called out for it. I mean like how do we not know that he just wanted to do the generational prank of usurping an older sibling? Like maybe he was going to release a video a few days afterward revealing it was a prank and he wanted to follow the family tradition.

When the World is Ending
Summary: In a post-Zombie Apocalyptic world, Rhaenyra ventures to find a compound and the one within it.
AO3
Pairing: Rhaenyra Targaryen x Alicent Hightower
Warning: Emotional hurt, Hurt/Comfort, Angst heavy, Sad/bittersweet ending, Character deaths
Words: 1,311
A/N: This is the saddest thing I have ever posted. I may make a part two based on the children's reactions depending on the response I get.
Rhaenyra spared one final look at the house, knowing it would be the last time she ever saw it. The couch was a mess with jackets and sweaters thrown on top. Countless boots were scattered across the living room floor, tracking mud onto the carpet. The beam in the kitchen had pencil marks with the height of each of her children, Visenyaâs being the most recent. Her eyes eventually settled on the letter placed on the dining table. She turned away before she could begin to cry again. She zipped up the backpack in her hand, all that was placed inside was a single blanket. In her other hand, she gripped a baseball bat. She wouldnât need much where she was going.
Rhaenyra trudged forward. The trees surrounding the farmhouse enveloped her. She stepped over the visible roots and avoided any large branches. The smell of pine hung heavy in the air. Mist was hovering above the ground. She tightened her grip on the bat, feeling the smooth wood against her fingers. As she walked through the woods, she pushed away the dryness in her throat. It was becoming too real.
She made it to the open road and walked down the paved street. It had been a while since she had done so. Yet now there was nothing to be afraid of. It was quiet. No birds were singing, no cars running, and no shuffling to be heard. Only silence. Rhaenyra glanced at the houses along the street. They were empty, likely looted by those desperate for resources. She wondered to herself if they had once been homes for families. She imagined there was laughter and love. Meanwhile, the house sat destroyed. The windows were broken with the roof having collapsed in on itself. Cobwebs hinged on the porch. No one had been there in a long time. She looked away, continuing to her destination.
Thirty minutes later she came upon the chained-up gates she recognized. A âNo Trespassingâ sign was nailed on. She ignored it and climbed over the fence. The compound was in less than splendid condition. Vines had begun to grow along the building, almost like nature was reclaiming the structure for itself. As she approached the door, the familiar details rushed back. She punched in the code. A beep sounded then the door hissed open. Rhaenyra kept her bat close as she started to walk inside.
Only ten hours ago, she had seen the red flare shoot into the sky. The message was clear, someone was infected. A few hours later another flare was shot. White, this time. They were abandoning the compound. Early this morning, she had seen the final flare. Green. A warning to stay away. That was when she knew the infected person was still alive.
Rhaenyra scanned the compound for any living person. She found none. With her bat raised, she gently opened the door to each room. They were empty, save for what they couldnât take with them. A crib was left behind as were some childrenâs toys. She moved to the basement. The large metal door was closed but not locked. With a soft push, it opened. A dark staircase greeted her. Carefully, she stepped down the dimly lit space. She was searched in the shadows, her weapon ready for any surprises.
âRhaenyra?â A voice called.
She turned around to see Alicent Hightower sitting on the ground.
Rhaenyra lowered the bat. She noticed a nearby pull switch and turned on the lights.
Alicent only looked at her in shock. âRhaenyra, what are you doing here?â
Rhaenyra set down her backpack. âCame to see you,â she replied.
Alicentâs gaze lowered. âRhaenyra, you must have seen the flareâŚIâm infected. Itâs not safe for you here.â
Rhaenyra rolled up her sleeve. A red bite mark itched on her wrist. Black veins ran up half her arm. âNothing you worse you can do.â
The color drained from Alicentâs features. Her face fell. âWhen?â
âEight hours ago.â She rolled her sleeve back down. âThe boys and I were scouting when we got caught. They got out fine. I wasnât as lucky.â
Alicent leaned against the wall. Pity in her eyes. âHowâd they take it?â
âThey donât know. They wonât find out until they get home later and find a letter I left them.â Rhaenyra paused. âI just couldnât tell them face to face. Jace and Luke have seen me as this perfect invincible mother all these years. I didnât know how to say that I failed them. I didnât know how to look at Joffrey, Aegon, and Viserys to tell them. Visenya is still too young and wouldnât even understand. I didnât want them spending the next twenty-four hours mourning me. Iâd rather they remember me before this. What about yours?â
âHelaena didnât take it well. The boysâŚthey took it as well as they could. Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor didnât understand. They kept asking what was wrong with grandma?â She chuckled; it came out broken. âI told them it was best that they go. They decided to leave and go find your family, in fact.â
Rhaenyra grinned. âSmart kids.â
Alicent looked over. âHow did you know I was the one infected?â
âYou lit the green flare. Only youâre type to be considerate even when youâre infected.â
Alicent gave a soft smile. Rhaenyra sat beside her.
Alicent glanced at the baseball bat. âAre you going to put me out of my misery?â
âNo.â Rhaenyra shook her head. âAre you?â
âNo.â
Alicent became quiet. Her gaze drifted toward the wall.
âI havenât seen you in quite a few years, you look good even if youâre infected,â Rhaenyra commented.
âIs this you flirting?â
Rhaenyraâs face scrunched together. âI swear this used to work on you better.â
Alicent chuckled. A real chuckle.
âWhat a time,â Rhaenyra said wistfully.
They fell back into silence. The refrigerator groaned upstairs. Gentle taps came from water leaking from the pipes.
âWhy did you come here?â Alicent asked.
âI already said to see you.â
âBut why did you want to see me?â
Rhaenyra leaned closer. âCause I thought it was fitting, you and I going out together.â
The Hightower stared ahead. Her mind seemed to be running rampant with thoughts. Alicentâs lip quivered. A sob wracked through. âIâm scared.â
Rhaenyra watched her. The vision in her own eyes became blurry. She felt the tears escape, running down her cheeks. âI am too,â she admitted.
âI donât know whatâs going to happen to me,â Alicent sniffled. âI have less than a day before IâŚâ
She hid her head behind her knees, another sob breaking through the silence.
Rhaenyra sat there. She thought of her children. She would never get to see them grow. She would never help Visenya get dressed again. She would never watch Joffrey play board games with Luke again. She would never get to push Aegon and Viserys on their swing again. She would never assure Jace that he was doing a good job again. She would never get to see her half-siblings again. She would never get to meet her niece and nephews again. Her eyes shifted toward Alicent. There werenât enough words to describe the regret she felt with her. A fantasy of a wedding in June among the fields on the farm. A fantasy of two older women sitting on a porch watching the sun fall over the horizon would never happen.
âI donât know whatâll happen either,â she confessed. âBut youâre not alone.â
Alicent lifted her head. She finally met Rhaenyraâs gaze.
âWhatever happens, Iâm here with you. Weâll face this together like always.â
Alicentâs grip tightened. She nodded. âLike always.â
Rhaenyra rested her head on Alicentâs shoulder. A million words were left unsaid, yet they were not necessary. Everything was already spoken as they held onto each other. When the morning came, they would be gone.
