spider isn’t quick to trust anyone or easily make relationships but like. i just had the idea that sao (unintentionally at first) plays into his taste for light hedonism and incredible art/trinkets because that too is something they adore, and i like to think that these things help him soften up to them bit by bit.

on top of that, there came instances where they helped protect or save him. there’s probably things about them that interest him that he considered to be exploitable/useable to him, but overtime it evolved into “oh no they’re hot/likeable”.

these two strike me as the type of couple who would go on rare lavish dates- spider with his earned glimmer, sao with their connections and tricks. they spoil him, he begins to do the same in turn out of his own desires.

maybe he figures out some of their secrets and occasionally dangles them over their head, but they keep a cool head and respond, “Funny you should mention that. I happen to remember when you, (x)” and he’s like. Well shit. I’m outmatched. yeaaaars and years ago Sao used to be worth a hefty penny, too, but that was when Warlords were a problem and when they “betrayed” the Iron Lords and Awoken (Mara) to protect the Ahamkara from going extinct. I don’t know if Saladin has forgiven them for that, he may not have, but they’re at least safe from Mara because Spider will NOT be fucking with her again anytime soon kddjfh
