There's Also A Non-zero Chance That The Moth Is Actually A Certain Shapeshifter.
There's also a non-zero chance that the moth is actually a certain shapeshifter.
Even though no one's explicitly called it out yet, I'm pretty sure that the moth in Otto's office has something to do with Cici, especially with Noone pointing out how she takes comfort from the fact she's NOT like the moth. With the next episode being called "Two of a kind" there's a chance some of this will be cleared up.
That sentence about moths being drawn to a flame really stuck out. Especially since Noone mentioned she liked catching moths. Otto on the other hand reacted frantically when he saw the moth in his office, so I really wonder what the symbolism of it will turn out to be.

Just realized that the SM6 cameo forum ill go live while I'm still having classes, fuuuuuu-
For context, I'm taking a private course and two earlier classes in the course were rescheduled to this weekend due to the instructor not being available at the originally planned times :(
So the chapter 4 teaser dropped and it would seem Otto has gone straight from unorthodox therapy to actual, literal, mad science in an attempt to travel between dimensions... Good for him.
Hello! I come from the theory post you made about ep 3 of the podcast, I really enjoyed it!
About the Ferryman: I must absolutely agree with you. He is horrifying. His voice not being able to be heard is something that had me scratch my head a bit, I will not lie. I have been thinking about some possibilities and ultimately I have decided that the reason why his voice is not heard is because his speech is too inhuman to be comprehended/replicated in the real world, but can be understood fine in the Nowhere.
Might also explain why, whenever he's properly referred to as "The Ferryman", the recordings and tapes glitch. He cannot cross over into the other timelines physically: he can't exist somewhere outside of the Nowhere. Which is why calling him by a pseudonym, the "Candleman", is easier for Noone, maybe.
What I know for sure is that the man is ancient.
I love the idea of the ferryman being to "foreign" to the human world, it adds to how ancient he feels, like he's and integral and innate part of the Nowhere, almost like the lure of an angler fish. (On a side note, Noone's description of his voice reminded me of a fic called "His Little Nightmares" which is about how Roger started working at the Maw, because Roger describes the Bellman as sounding "like he was trying to speak while drowning in tar".)
Another theory I have is that the naturally powered kids (Mono, Pretender) are regular visitors, just from a similar, but different world, with the "function" of producing a large crop of powerful entities for the Nowhere to choose to "relocate".
Agree with basically all of this, except the cult has been using Eyes way longer than the boys have been alive, I say using since I think Eyes doesn't know about or at least doesn't condone of the pendants and what the pendants are being used for.
My theory as to why Skid wasn't affected is that he was actually exposed to Eyes as a baby, so the initial "Eyes contact high" did happen, just before he had the capacity to form a memory of it happening.
I think the chess cover for the physical OST is a hint that we're making Eyes out to be more villainous than they are. For example, when someone's eyes glow seafoam green they're not possessed by Eyes, but rather using their energy/power/blessing.
This would explain why both Pump's eyes and Bob's eyes glow towards the end of TT, one is tapping into magically granted knowledge and the other is reanimating himself.
If this is correct, then Kevin and the Hatzgang might also have some dormant supernatural powers, which would be fucking epic!
I think I made a post a little while ago about that, Eyes being a chess piece while the cult are the ones looking over everything makes me think that, with rich families like Roy's and powerful people like Mayor Evermore being part of it, the Cult is more in control of the town than we ever would've thought
I've never seen Eyes as dangerous or an intentuonally malicious villain, I think of it more as like a huge octopus dog that accidentally brought the attention of a powerful cult to it after it saved the son of its previous owner and his friend from a creepy pedo
I've always thought of Eyes having been possessing people, but after what happened in TT (because I doubt Eyes would let someone go after Skid and Pump), that he more grants them heightened mental and physical strength
Oh and also, in pretty sure Bob survived for long because of the pendant he had in his chesr that was shown in the true ending, the ones that the cultists wear, and he only died because Jack cracked the pendant after he had ran Bob over enough times with the car
Also yeah, I have been waiting for the Hatzgang and Kevin to be shown having green eyes, because they saw Eyes aswell, I want Kevin to get green Eyes and go full on Beast Mode to protect the kids
Aka, cult is in control of a lotta inner workings of the town, Eyes can grant immortality to people and the cult is seeking immortality (implied by that one book in the ARG), Skid's dad is implied to have adopted it in some doodles, which may be the reason Skid's got some literal plot armour against it, Bob was able to survive being hit like 5 times with a car because he had a cult necklace, and I want Kevin and the Hatzgang to murder someone
The Sounds of Nightmares episode 4 analysis: Head in The Clouds
HOLY FUCK, ACTULLY HOLY FUCK, BEST EPISODE ,BEST EPISODE
Forgive me, now that I've disposed of the build up of hype, we can sort this into two parts, what this means for TSON and for LN3
The young blood:
Given this is our first exposure to teens in Nowhere, and Noone's comments about them "being there for a long time" we can safely say they've at least partially turned into residents, especially with how they're being conditioned to only see themselves as their given roles.
Considering the series is implied to be the earliest point in the timeline so far, I'm wondering if we might see the magician and fire breathers as adults when LN3 launches, though I'm highly doubtful we'll be seeing Rusty alive.
A place of joy in the sky:
The idea that the Circus is an airship is definitely one I didn't consider before, but makes it's similarities to the Maw much more interesting.
On a side note, Noone describing the Fairgoers as having faces like bad drawings lines up with the lumpy looks of their faces we see in the trailer, further proving it's the same places.
Double act:
Now on to who I'm sure would be delighted to be called the main attraction, the Ventriloquist(s?)!
No two ways about it, they are HORRIFYING, and line up great with Tarsier's old philosophy of making Residents look like grisly version of childish misunderstandings of what they represent.
Gameplay-wise I have a suspicion one may function like an alarm, alerting the other of our presence, though I may be completely off on that. From a lore perspective, it feels very LN-like to not clarify if they actually run the Circus or not.
The (not quite) best boy:
Rusty was a pretty great companion to Noone in this trip to Nowhere, he seems to be the most capable kids she's met so far (no offence, episode 1 kid who's probably RK). His confession of fear and hate in the ferris wheel might imply he was closer to becoming a resident than the other kids we've met so far.
The absent local:
Our slightly blobby old friend not appearing was a slight surprise, though he's certainly there in spirit, it helps that he's all but confirmed to actually hail from Nowhere, further solidifying my theories regarding him.
Noone's allegory:
Noone describing the Nowhere as a place with many connected but individual places with unique functions confirms, at least to me, that there is no central force controlling literally everything, rather, there are forces that drift from region to region, upkeeping the nature of the world as a whole-
A few notes:
Since every episode has a different color for the background, I'll go out on a limb and say the finale will be yellow, for fairly obvious reasons, leaving green as the most likely color for episode five.
The idea of fleeing the Circus (in chapter FOUR) reminds me of @queen0fm0nsterz idea that one of the cancelled LN1 comics would be about escaping a facility, and that it would parallel the FOURTH Lady, might be nothing, or it might be a sign we should revisit past episodes with the Ladies in mind.
