The signs were there.

Your relationship with your husband, Park Jimin, was slowly fading; slowly dwindling into nothingness. You don’t really recall exactly why you’ve been drifting apart or what caused the start of the drift. All you knew, was that one day, two months ago, your husband had come home with a changed, indifferent air around him. Within that long agonising month, you had tried everything to garner his attention. You suggested bike riding down the Han River liked you used to when you began dating, trying to rekindle some of the love and passion in your relationship. However, Jimin had refuted the offer, claiming he had a busy day at work and he was tired. When you suggested a date night, something relaxing like a movie and dinner, Jimin had rebuked that too, not wanting to leave home. But when you’d suggested staying in and watching a film, he’d turned that down too; heading straight to bed instead.

For two months you tried whatever you could. From planned days in so that he could rest if he was tired, all the way to suggesting fun and exciting things like trips to museums or the park like you used to when you were dating. But each and every single idea was turned down with some excuse or another. At some point you began wondering if you had done something to annoy him or said something that caused him to begin pulling away from you. But no matter how much you racked your brain, you couldn’t pinpoint any thing. He was just no longer interested in spending time with you.

When Taehyung had knocked on Jeongguk’s wooden door, it had been with his breath in his throat and his chest heaving. The wolves he’d met at the border during patrols—those he’d learned it from—must’ve noticed that their words of gossip had affected him. He just hoped they didn’t realize to what extent and for what reason.

Although the Jeon and Min packs tried their best to keep their distance from each other, a few of Yoongi’s wolves were somewhat friends of Taehyung’s after years of running into each other at the border. He wasn’t sure why they told him, he figured the risk of Yoongi founding out would be too big, but nonetheless, they’d entrusted him with the information.

It wasn’t as fun anymore. Sam and Ila just didn’t seem as fascinating as they once had. You wondered how the boy was doing, if he realized that you didn’t stop seeing him by your own choice. 

You hadn’t even managed to figure out why he was there in the first place. You couldn’t ask, fearing that you’d be fired if you brought him up again. To not even be allowed inside the building wasn’t an option for you. At least like this, you were still able to feel somewhat close to him, and that soothed you even if there was no way for you to know what went on behind that door.

The ride is quiet, accompanied by the soft music again that should ease your mind, but it doesn’t. Giving him your address and watching him to tap it into the touch screen of his car, was tense. He doesn’t speak, focusing on the dark road ahead of him, his face illuminated by the street lights every now and then.

Deciding it’s better to focus your eyes elsewhere, you pull out your phone to find a single message from Taehyung. He never texts you unless it’s something about your shifts, but this time he shows his worry about you. You text him back, saying you’re on your way home now. It takes him a whole minute to read the text and send you a thumbs up emoji.

“Is that your boyfriend?”

Your head snaps to the quiet, but still prominent voice. He’s not looking at you, even when he stops at the red light as you lick your lips nervously.

“I don’t have a boyfriend.” you tell him, sinking into the leather seat that’s too far comfortable. You could fall asleep right away.

“I know,” he says, causing you to look at him again.

Standing in the corner of the room, you scan the crowd that has filled the house. As you continue your examination, your eyes catch a stranger across the room. He’s got a beer in one hand, and with the other, he is running a hand through his hair. To say you feel unsteady on your feet and can’t breathe would be an understatement. Immediately mesmerized by his smile, you find it hard to take your eyes off him. He catches your gaze across the room, and you immediately lower your eyes. Fidgeting with your phone, you leave from the crowded living room and make an escape for the front yard of Mina’s house, which is the only quiet place.

The night is silent, save for the sounds of crickets chirping into the distance somewhere. You amble quietly towards the tree in the yard, which is yours and Mina’s favourite spot. Dusting off the roots that protrude from the ground, you sit down and rest your head against the bark.

“I thought I saw someone heading in this direction” the nameless stranger from before makes an appearance, almost making you lose your balance even though you are sitting.

“Hi” you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear

“What are you doing out here leaving that awesome party?” he chuckles as he sits next to you, drawing his knees to his chest.
