[09:03 AM] valentines special: heartbreaks with friends

"can we petition to remove valentines as a holiday?" my friend slurred her words through tears. "i hate it. it sucks."

i shared a look with my other friend. there was three of us in total in this friend group and one of my friend was going through a major heartbreak.

apparently, her crush had only ever considered her as a second choice and she's been heartbroken ever since.

the thought of it made my blood boil.

how dare that man play her feelings as though she was some instrument he could play with? he'd led her on, making her believe she had a chance only to abruptly say he never liked her in the first place. not only had he broken her heart, he'd also made her feel so humiliated and oh my god, if i see that man-

my other friend cut in, breaking my thoughts. "you only drank soda," they deadpanned. "why on earth are you drunk?"

"i don't know," sobbed my heartbroken friend. "i'm sad - leave me alone!"

we shared another look and sighed.

she was a mess. and that was the kind way of putting it.

ever since we'd heard the news, we'd went to her apartment only to see her eating junk foods and soda in her bed wearing the same pretty dress that she'd planned on wearing for him. it's only been a few minutes since we'd arrived but it felt like it's been hours.

"you poor baby," i sighed and sat next to her. "come here."

like a child, she went to my embrace and wailed, ranting about her horrible love life while my other friend removed the trash in her room.

"what did i do wrong? why can't he just see me? i've been waiting for him to see me for years and i'm so tired but i can't move on-" she cut herself off with a sob. "-i - i'm so pathetic - i hate this but i can't move on! i love him but he doesn't love me and it hurts so much!"

there was little i could do. i've never been much of a romantic having given up on love a long time ago. whatever coping mechanism i can suggest won't work on her.

in the end, i just settled on distracting her.

"you've done nothing wrong. he's the asshole," i said before ushering her to stand up. "now come on - you're wearing such a pretty dress, we can't let it go to waste now can we?"

she followed me outside aimlessly. "where're we going?"

my friend came out of the kitchen with a picnic basket they'd prepared. "we're going out," they said, giving me some items to hold. "if that asshole can't take you out on a date you deserve then we will."

emotional as she was, she broke into tears at our kindness.

"i love you guys!" she wailed as we sighed.

"we know," i said for the two of us, going to hear to fix her appearance. thank goodness she wore waterproof makeup. "we love you too, bubba. let's go celebrate this stupid holiday all alone because fuck men, really."

"not literally though," my other friend cut in teasingly lightening the mood.

she laughed. "thanks guys."

"yeah, yeah." i rolled my eyes jokingly, ushering the two of them out so we can finally go have a picnic. "let's go."

and with watery laughter, we decided to forget the asshole who'd broken our dear friends heart and celebrate the holiday with platonic love because, really, platonic love was so much better.

perhaps in another year, we'd find someone to romantically spend the holiday with. but that's for another year.

for now, we're all together.

broken-hearted, yes, but together nonetheless.

and that's good enough.

the rule is unwritten, but very enforced. like, there are online communities dedicated to erasing any trace of the spread of his identity. a tourist takes a photo of him and posts it online? it's gone in minutes, and people send DMs to the poster anywhere from "hey, i'm sure you were just excited, but...." to "ill kill u if i evr c you, fuckin bitch".

any information on spider-man is only spread via word of mouth, and only spoken in hushed, awed voices. after several years of spider-man, everyone knows someone who encountered him:

so as many times as spider-man ends up with out a mask, or accidentally introduces himself with a name that starts with 'p' and rhymes with 'meter'... on the record, they don't know a thing. because he does his best to help as many people as he can, so it's only fair if they help him a little in return.

it’s okay to take breaks and it’s okay to have a writers block. we all go through it at one point and it’s only temporary so don’t stress yourself out.

Just AU where in episode Powder doesn’t leave she’s still breaking down in her room with the crystals all over the floor when some enforcers barge in and see tiny child crying, most definitely some of the stolen items they were looking for out in the open and looks like a lot of others left in a rush…

Just the enforcers being like ‘…holy shit…DID THEY LEAVE A CHILD HERE TO TAKE THE FALL FOR THEM??’

Powder there all alone and when the enforcers try talking to them her freaking out scared but still so sad and when they ask about her family her just insisting ‘they’ll be back they promised’ and the like and that just solidifying to them that…yeah they’ve abandoned this kid here.

The enforcers taking Powder to the council, who all assume the same, and Powder starting to believe that yeah…she was abandoned if not Vander and Vi would have come for her right? why haven’t they come to get her?

(The reason being as Vander and everyone escaped as no explosion Silco got sure pissed and got some people to pretty much set fire or to destroy the last drop it looking like Powder is dead…Vi blaming herself cause she told Powder to stay her little sister stayed there waiting for her to get back and died because of it)

Also Markus bullshits and totally fabricates and lies to make this seem legit and so no one looks further into this at all, not on either side.

Powder is just breaking down and Mel takes a look at this little girl whose family have discarded her as she was a weakness, thrown her away to save themselves and just…can’t let this stand.

so why did amnesiac!claude take as much time to bring back athy as he did?

(just what i think 😳😳)

i believe this is where we find the answer:

his word choice here is integral to understanding amnesiac!claude, because we aren't dealing with claude after he's raised athy. it's practically LP!claude all over again.

and even if diana may see giving birth as an act of love, claude sees it as a choice. it's her choosing someone else over him, which is why he considers it betrayal. that's what his life has been - the emperor choosing to favour anastacius, anastasius choosing to hate claude, penelope choosing to betray him. and diana, who has literally introduced him to unconditional and reciprocated love, has just done the exact same thing. diana has made a choice, and like everyone else's, it wasn't him.

in amnesia arc, we are being reintroduced to him as a character, and it's why it's so long - it's all his thoughts since he's met athy compressed into one arc.

he deals with athy the way LP!claude would, which makes sense. he wouldn't have kept someone by his side - the way everyone claims he has athy - if he didn't love them, and if they didn't love him back. and the "proof" that someone truly does love him, to claude, is the choice. the choice that everyone else failed in making. the idea that he chose athy - diana's child, the child that for all intents and purposes he planned on killing - for fourteen years and that she chose him back is quite ridiculous to him.

but that's what she's been doing all along, right?

...choosing him for her debutante, finding her happiness in going with him and not lucas or felix or ijekiel, and many more little instances like this. she's been choosing him for fourteen years, claude sees this especially when athy mentions she doesn't need to see diana because she has him (i'm pretty sure he was awake) - which is why incidents like this stopped happening:

even during the LP!timeline, athy has not given up on her father. despite having realised he will not accept her, she knows she would've died to keep jennette, his 'happy ending' alive. athanasia has unknowingly, in both timelines, become exactly what diana had hoped she would - his constant.

the one person who chooses him, over and over and over.

and what happens in LP!timeline? the moment he lets her go, pushes her away, he has no one. that happy ending is gone. i have no doubt that felix would never have stayed after athy's execution (despite being in the flashbacks of athy's birth, the massacre of ruby palace, he isn't present in the dream where claude is dying with anastacius in the shadows). he loses it all.

but here's the thing about him - despite everything, claude craves love. after being abused by his literal family, he accepts penelope yudit into his life. he may have held some positive sentiments towards her - especially after the neglect and humiliation he faced from his family and the noble court, there must've been some comfort in her presence. and she hurts him.

years later, we see claude letting diana in.

he's given away his heart twice and he knows he'll do it again, thus that portrait of penelope in his room to warn his future self. and really, after letting go of athy who poses such a threat to his heart, amnesiac!claude should feel relieved. at ease.

he isn't, though. his most trusted friend is telling him he had found love. that for the fourteen years he cannot recall, he was happy. amnesiac!claude is restless, and that desire to be wanted, chosen, is still fresh. the dream about diana puts it all into perspective. magic is not a cause, nor the effect. it is simply an aid, a catalyst. he could not have possibly forgotten diana had there been a symbol of her, of their love, right beside him - and now, chasing athy away has become a battle against his own mind. dreams cannot simply be conjured up, they are the work of the subconscious - and to deny the truth behind his safekeeping of her paintings, the protection spell on her, the chair in his office and athy's gardens, to deny all of this would be to lie to himself. so, he puts her through a final test:

and athy chooses him again.

this time, however, it isn't over felix or diana or lucas, athy has chosen claude over herself. over her safety. despite him publically denouncing her, despite an attempt on her life, she's made her choice.

it is a gamble, a risk, claude knows this. the courage to return can only be fueled by love - athanasia mentions she doesn't want to fall into his trap as well, but where does she end up, despite this fear? she returns to him, as she always does.

she doesn't pressure him. athy checks on claude everyday, advises him to keep his health a priority, she decorates his study with what I assume are lavender flowers (which are known to symbolise purity, devotion and serenity, and are given to convey a message of healing and love - spoon often plays with the symbolic significance of flowers in her panels) and despite her insecurity, invites jennette to the lake for his comfort. she stands in silent support, showing him that she will remain 'the constant'. it makes him want to remedy their relationship, understand the happiness she had apparently been giving him for years.

and so, he chooses her:
