See this picture? This comes from a town in Canada where a 24 pack of water bottles is 104 dollars and formula milk for a baby is priced at 55 dollars a pack. What’s more, a pack of diapers is 95 dollars and one head of lettuce is 26 dollars. Inuit people are starving in a country known for it’s generosity.

If you don’t believe this is true, you can find more images like this here. This is the only grocery store these people have in their small towns, and many people are going hungry & elderly are dying faster.

You’ll send aid to foreign children that are starving, so why won’t you pay a little extra to feed the people in your own country who work hard & still can’t afford the prices for healthy food for their families?

It’s been months since I’ve actually promoted my Patreon as a whole rather than individual posts. I’m still going to promote each piece that goes up, whether it’s patrons only or accessible to all, but I wanted to take a stab at promoting my writing, especially as I’m slowly getting out the slump I was temporarily into and am planning to write new medium and longer pieces. 

If you decide to sacrifice only 1$/a month, you’ll have access to a backlog of heartrending, musical, delicate poetry that is dipped in Black femininity and whose core content is derived from Black feminist theory. I explore sexuality in all its stickiness, heat, and wetness, desire but also repulsion, anger at every level, from the personal to the political, the different concepts of “revolution” and how they collide, the glory of Blackness as it traverses all of the former things mentioned and much more. 

You’ll also have access to a series of medium sized pieces that are listed as videos, and that are basically commentaries on either a music video or a song. If I choose a music video, I discuss the combination of the lyrics and the sonicality of the song as surimposed with the visuals, and the significance of that juxtaposition. I also try to contextualize the images as best as I can and to give my own reading of the media and the relationship between the artist and the media. When confronted with just the song, I work as much with the lyrics with how the beat and the melody make me feel and base my reading of the song on all of those elements as well as any additional context around the song.

You’ll finally have access to longer essays. The essays currently available cover subjects as varied as Black embodiment and what it means to have a Black body to Black singers and rappers singing/rapping about sexual pleasure, with some stops to discuss waywardness and Black female youth, and the way Black people are and should be taking care of one another especially in the wake of George Floyd‘s and Breonna Taylor’s death. I’m planning to write essays on Black female “strangeness”, on the exotification and eroticization of young Black biracial children with a Black father, and much more.
