I Think The Dead Mother / Reluctant Father Figure Trope Is Way Too Oversaturated When It Comes To Coming-of-age
I think the dead mother / reluctant father figure trope is way too oversaturated when it comes to coming-of-age hero epics.
It's always the father who stepped up but never the mother who stayed.
I just love when a camper tells Percy that demigods can burn their favorite food as offering to their godly parent so they can be heard and he burns the blue candy Sally got him to pray to his mortal mom.
He really was like god of the seas or no, he's a deadbeat.
My human mom would NEVER.
Sally Jackson you truly are singular 💖

petition for walker, aryan, and leah to reenact scenes from the book that didn't make the cut for the show and post them on insta/tik tok. the backdrops can be just wherever they happen to be. the lower the quality on the props, the better. any other characters can either be played by the actual actor, anyone else who happens to be around, or one of the trio members in a cheap costume.

I swear to god I’m on my last fucking straw-
On one of the reviews for the Percy Jackson show someone said “Being blonde was like 90% of Annabeth’s personality!” (In response to her being played by a black actress) and I just-
There is SO much more to Annabeth than just being blonde and white. Her dynamic is BARELY about the ‘Dumb blonde’ stereotype.
Her entire character dynamic is that she feels like she constantly has to prove herself because A)Her dad pretty much kicked her out of the house at age 7 because she was a demigod(Which was HIS fault as he’s the one who fell in love with a god) and B)Her mom is goddess, the goddess of wisdom at that. How is Annabeth supposed to live up to those standards? She constantly feels useless because all of her friends have these super cool powers and all she has is the fact that she’s smart. And she also feels like a failure because she’s the daughter of one of the smartest beings to ever exist and she STILL fails sometimes. She failed to save Luke. She spent 8 months searching for Percy and drove herself crazy because she couldn’t figure out where he was or what happened to him. She was supposed to be smart, why couldn’t she figure it out? She was one of the smartest people in camp. And she felt like she was failing everyone when she couldn’t figure things out.
again, there is SO MUCH MORE to Annabeth than just being blonde. If you ‘can’t relate to her anymore’ then you never related to her in the first place apart from the fact that you were blonde and white.
I can relate to Annabeth perfectly(and I’m not blonde), and I get her struggles. I understand what it’s like to be considered ‘gifted’ at such a young age and then suddenly start struggling at 12. I understand what it’s like to feel like you’re constantly failing everyone, like you have to earn everyone’s love. I understand what it’s like to doubt yourself every single day.
Being blonde has pretty much nothing to do with Annabeth’s character.
