anyway, picture this - the greatest football player of all time celebrates his world cup win on the shoulders of his best friend who had to tragically retire from professional football last year because of a heart defect.

the night before the final match, despite it not being allowed or ever done, he convinces his retired friend to spend the night in their hotel room. for old times sake. because he feels calmer, better, more settled with him there.

on the pitch, after an incredible game full of ups and downs, the greatest player of all time falls to his knees. his best friend runs to him from the stands. seeing him standing there is the only time he allows himself to cry.

now, you say, wait a minute. that's so melodramatic, it's just not realistic for something like that to happen.

and yet! it happened tonight! fucking football, man, you can't beat it for the narrative.

i always say this but one thing i love about yugioh is that it’s a love story. not necessarily in the traditional romantic sense but it’s a love story to oneself. it’s about growth and becoming a better person than the one you were yesterday through shared passion and friendship

yugioh is about learning to know yourself and through that learning to love yourself, yugioh is about being different, it’s about being weird, it’s about not fitting in to the status quo and not having to fit in because there’s a place for you somewhere and there’s people who love you
