A guide to becoming an artist
here’s to all beginner artists, a few tips I’ve come to collect over the years in my experience:
1. don’t compare yourself to others. just... don’t do it. Stahp. Get a drink, get off those thoughts.
2. if you wanna draw, draw. Easier said than done, but keep in mind: Michelangelo didn’t get so good by picking his nose.
3. It’s not about talent. Art, ironically, is a little like Math. If you have more of a knack for it, good for you! But that doesn’t mean you can’t catch up to those brainiacs by practising! AU CONTRAIRE, Practise is key
4. GOOGLE PICTURES IS YOUR FRIEND: got questions about anatomy? don’t know where that muscle should go? Ask google pictures. Also, when you’re in artblock, but you still wanna improve, go copy a few pictures, pic the thing you wanna focus on, (Arms, face, eyes, animals, etc) and just doodle.
5. VERY IMPORTANT FOR DOODLIN!!!!!! Dunnae give a fUcK!!!! seriously. fuck it. scribble. dribble. doodle the sHiT out of that wolf/hamster/wing/eye whatever. it’s a doodle, not the mona lisa. (For publishing purposes, the messier the sketch the better, because the audience will think these things come easy to you, hence you didn’t have to press it out like a shit on a bad intestine day; also try practising to guide your pen lightly grazing the paper, it will add to the effect)
6. You’re NOT expected to know every detail by heart, every proportion!!! you need helping lines?? Go do them helping lines!!! Gradually, the more and more you practise, you will see, the helping lines will be in your head and you’ll be tracing them on paper.
7. TIME IS YOUR FRIEND! Something’s off with your drawing? Get up and walk around the room, get a drink, go massage your hamster, play chess with your dog, take a bReAK!! Chill dude, your drawing won’t run away. Maybe let it lie for a day? A new perspective can help you loads.
8. Redraw the shit out of terrible drawings from when you were younger! it’s a motivation to see how much you’ve improved
9. Instagram is a TREASURE CHEST for artists, go get some inspirations!! (for practise, go copy some works, but CREDITTTTTTTTT IF YOU POST IT!!!!!!!!)
10. It’s not a competition, your art is dope dude, and if you’re not happy with it, that’s okay, perfectionism is in all of us, but remember from time to time to look back and check what you’ve achieved, you’re amazing! Don’t take shit from anyone, criticism comes in many ways, don’t let others jealousy hidden in mean/disrespectful/know-it-all smartass comments hinder you from pursuing what you want to do
all the credit goes to @/cyarin, this is her concept, her idea, everything, but for me it was a really really good practice for my digital art since I got my new wacom drawing table yesterday and I’m loving it!! I watched her tutorial on youtube, if you’re interested, go check her out, she’s amazing and one of my fave artists on the net!!
why does my digital art look like I’m 10 years old? ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this artblock is driving me mad. There is nothing that I draw at the moment that pleases me and it’s making me crazy. :/ I know digital is hard to grasp and everything in art is all about practise but lately it’s just been frustrating me no matter how hard I try it never looks like I want it to
art cheats
