Jason shrugged half-heartedly, absentmindedly fiddling with his water bottle. “He said I could talk to you about anything. If something was bothering me.” He eyed her briefly, before uncapping his drink.
“He said something about wanting to make sure I can ‘go out with a clear head’. You know. As Robin. I’ve been working really hard for it.”
So don’t fuck this up like you do everything else, Todd.
“That sums it up fairly well.” Leslie nodded, a warm smile crossing over her face. “It’s a chance to talk about anything really. And since I already know about Bruce - and what he gets up to of an evening, you can talk without having to worry about giving any big secrets away. Sometimes it’s good to have someone outside of our - immediate circle of people to talk to. And therapy give us a chance to explore ourselves and get to know ourselves a little better.”
“There are no wrong answers here. We just talk, and I might give you some things to think about or try from one session to the next, depending on where our conversations go.”
Crossing her legs, Leslie prompted him gently, picking up on the eagerness of his words rather than Bruce’s concern of something bothering Jason. “It sounds like you’re excited to be Robin.”

And if Jason had felt any better, he would have pushed her away. But now, Jason could only be grateful for the support. Her steady hands and gait, led him back to his bedroom, and a trickle of shame curled up in his gut at her seeing the mess he had holed himself up in.
He curled up on his bed, burying his face in the sweat soaked pillow.
He looked a pitiful sight. It made Leslie’s chest ache with a need for action. To do something to make it better. She doubted however, that she could do all that much.
Resisting the urge to push his bangs off his face, Leslie resolved herself to try, knowing despite his closed eyes, he could hear her perfectly. “Okay, so here’s the thing. You need fluids, and if I’ve got anything to do with it, you’re getting them. Dehydration on top of everything else is going to make it worse. So you’ve got a choice. Either you take some small sips of something, or I’ve got an IV with me.” She wasn’t prepared to let him refuse that one outright.
Glancing around his bedroom, Leslie had some other ideas of what she could do to make it a little easier. But that was best left unsaid and should wait until he was asleep.
Thinking on, she continued, already imagining his protests. “I’ve also brought painkillers with me. The top shelf stuff. I know you hate them, but if it might take the edge off...”

Jason didn’t take the glass. Nor did he even consider moving towards it. He watched her sit down in front of him, listened to her opening the door for him to talk and –
“Turns out dying and coming back isn’t as inconsequential as they make it out to be,” Jason began, and he let his gaze drop to his lap. “I – I can’t remember a day when I haven’t been in pain since… then. Sometimes, like now, it’s just… gets worse.”
Like I’m being killed all over again.
It was as if a heavy weight had dropped into the pit of her stomach. She had been hoping harder than she would care to admit that her hunch had been wrong.
After what happened in Ethiopia... Just the fact that Jason had come back in the first place - well it was all so impossible that - Leslie had just assumed...
He had been in pain the entire time?
“Shit...” Sitting back in the chair, Leslie gave herself a moment. It made perfect sense, yet she hadn’t seen it coming. If it hadn’t of been for Grace, she might never have. Part of her itched to run all the tests she could, to see if she could put whatever it was right. But even if Jason would ever tolerate it, now wasn’t the time.
Her heart ached for him. He had been alone - dealing with all of this, alone again.
Damn bats...
Leslie’s voice was laced with sadness as she asked him, half knowing the answer already. “You didn’t think this was something worth mentioning to anyone?”
jp-todd-rp:
“And expect what, exactly?” Jason retorted. “For the rest of the family to suddenly care about what happened to me, and what it did to me? None of them ever even bothered asking how I came back to begin with, so why the hell would they want to know this?”
He shook his head, bitterness lacing his tone. “It’ll help nothing. And it certainly won’t help me. I’m dealing with it. I’ve dealt with it.”
“I won’t make excuses for them...” Leslie knew better than to defend them. It was a complicated thing, the relationship Jason had with the rest of his family. One that Leslie had hope for still, but wading in and getting involved wouldn’t fix it.
She hummed thoughtfully before admitting her own guilt on the topic. “It’s something I’ve wanted to speak to you about for a while actually, just never seemed a good time... Now probably isn’t the best either while you’re in this state. But later - if you’ll indulge me.” The last thing she wanted was for him to feel pinned down, unable to leave what would quite probably be an uncomfortable conversation for him,
Brushing the idea away she changed track, challenging Jason with an obvious tone. She had spent too long on the side-lines watching to not point it out. “But who says you have to ‘deal with it’ alone? Even if you didn’t want to tell them, or Alfred and I. You have other people who care about you. People who want to help. Grace. She is quite worried about you, you know.”
Tim took a deep breath. He had met Leslie before, but not like this. It was all Bruce's idea; if Tim wanted to continue as Robin, he had to talk to Leslie. Sure, he had been through a thing or two, but he didn't really think he needed therapy. He always had Dick to talk to, his brother always picked up the phone when Tim needed him. Taking another deep breath, Tim applied his Timothy mask and knocked on the door. @nerdybirdboy
Bruce was concerned, that much was clear.
Leslie was in agreement that perhaps having someone outside of the immediate family to talk to would be helpful, however on the few occasions she had met young Tim Drake in the past, he hadn't exactly been keen on the idea of therapy in general. Still, she was optimistic enough to keep an open mind. And really, the pool of qualified professionals in the know about the Wayne's was very limited. There weren't many other options.
"Hello Tim." Leslie greeted him warmly, pushing down the sense of Deja vu and stepping aside to let him past into her office. "It's good to see you again."
