Lowkey pissed off by how vampires are always written within this ‘I love you but I want to hurt you so badly’ narrative? Like first of all that’s just an excuse to get young & beautiful women killed or brutalized on screen, because somehow it’s never a 70-yo female vampire struggling to resist her 50-yo male librarian lover, is it? And secondly - so you like someone you could potentially eat, so what? Happens every damn day everywhere. Are dogs secretly yearning to tear our heads off? Are people who own pet rabbits like ‘Oh you’re so fluffy and I love you, but man, I want to break your neck and roast you so much’. Lots of animals are carnivores, many of us eat meat, and yet when a bond emerges - of friendship, love, or strategical alliance - the thought of eating one another fades away. The ‘food’ and ‘not-food’ categories are way more complicated than just ‘Would go well with chesse’?? So please - I’m begging the young writers out there to stop using this trope. Let’s have Millennials kill (bad) vampires on top of diamonds and napkins. Thanks.
