Speaking of Cluny's characterization, did you know that four out of the twenty-two books have rats as their main villain?
Mariel of Redwall with Gabool the Wild, a searat
Redwall (of course) with Cluny the Scourge, a bilge rat
The Long Patrol with Damug Warfang, a greatrat (apparently)
and Loamhedge with Raga Bol, written in the wiki just as "rat."
Interesting, huh? That's 18%
Ooooooo do I have the mind to bring an old project backkkk!!

More Posts from Rose-of-redwall

I’m hearing some conflicting opinions on Mr. Sweet Baby Rollo
(also look he’s wearing his same clothes 🥺)

This is such an interesting idea, actually. I always think of the show as less authentic and more childish- which it technically is. However, I’m now realizing that all of the visual footage we have of everything emotional in the books is from the show! Duh, me.
It’s actually really emotional, isn’t it? The footage of everyone after Rose’s death, Martin and Grumm and Brome in particular- is like, renowned. At least by me and my blog.
Thank you for inspiring my realization :)
So... how the hell did Redwall’s TV series get away with it?
So many deaths. Not a lot of blood but a lot of impalements, stabs and pretty darn brutal ways to go. Mattimeo and other children are enslaved, being forced from their families with little hope of escape unless their parents can catch up.
I especially love how sincere it was even in a medium that may overstep its attempts to appeal to kids. I hope a time may come when this version of Redwall can continue in a similar way since a lot of kids TV has come a ways where this kind of story wouldn’t be out of the ordinary.
Also how did the Canadian cast pull off those authentic British accents?
The fact that Tim Curry voiced Slagar the Cruel in the TV show: 1) is the best thing in my life, and 2) tells everyone all they need to know about Slagar the Cruel. Fan favorite (evil man, though, not cool. He’s so… him!… though!)
Do Not Separate, Winner

Unsurprisingly I believe, our winner for best set of friends in all of Redwall is of course Martin & Gonff!

Next tournament is Best Wielder of Martin’s Sword That Is Not Martin. I should get the first round up in the next couple of days!

I don’t know how I came up with this theory but here we are… :D
