How does Odysseus' Legillemency work? Since its inborn is it something that can be turned on/off and used at will? Or is it more like an oppressive 6th sense? a burden more than it is a skill to be used..

It's completely innate. He can control the range if he focuses enough so that he only hears the thoughts of the people around him instead of the entire room, but it's absolutely a burden.

He can also narrow it in on one person if he wants to look for something specific like a certain memory or to get through Occlumency

The closer he is to someone, especially if they choose to let him in, the more strong his Legilimency is with then. Take Odysseus and Ominis, seeing as they've been best friends since they were kids. They can think "at" each other, aka Ominis will feel Ody's presence in his mind and think something for him to hear, and Odysseus can sort of insert a thought back as a reply.
