I feel these words — IRL.
She's not shy, she's protecting herself.
She's not stupid, she was manipulated.
She's not weak, she was trusting.
She's not crazy, she was mentally and verbally abused.
She's not cold, she's guarding her heart.
She's not silent, she's choosing her moments to speak.
She's not bitter, she's speaking her truth.
She's not distant, she's finding her strength.
She's not delusional, she survived a nightmare.
She's not hopeless, she's searching for light.
She's not hanging onto the past, she's been deeply hurt.
She's not afraid, she's learning to be brave.
She's not broken, she's piecing herself back together.
She's not too much, she knows what she wants.
She's not lost, she's discovering her path.
She's not giving up, she's healing.
She's not defeated, she's rising stronger than ever.

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - Today Show Book Club Pick!
“A story of love and hope, where interwoven characters show how every moment, big or small, can define a life. If you’re seeking joy, love, romance, and hope—read with us.” —Jenna Bush Hager
The Measure is a luminous, spirit-lifting blockbuster that poses a profound question: If you could know the length of your life, would you want to find out?
Eight ordinary people. One extraordinary choice.
It starts like any other day. You wake up, have your morning coffee, and step outside. But today, waiting at your door is a small wooden box. Inside, a mysterious slip of paper reveals exactly how many years you have left to live.
As the world grapples with the sudden appearance of these boxes, anxiety and uncertainty spread like wildfire. Where did these boxes come from? Are they trustworthy? And most importantly, do you really want to know your fate?
The Measure explores this new reality through a captivating cast of characters whose lives and choices become intricately intertwined. Best friends, lovers, strangers—each must confront the same life-altering decision: To open the box or not.
Enchanting and deeply uplifting, The Measure is an ambitious, invigorating tale about family, friendship, hope, and destiny. It’s a story that urges us to live life to the fullest, regardless of what the future holds.
Opinion
I didn’t enjoy this book and only read it because it was selected by my book club. While the story was well-crafted and thought-provoking, I found the concept of knowing the future unsettling, which led to a strong negative reaction on my part. Although I struggled with the book, I can see why many readers might appreciate it, especially due to the author’s excellent character development.
