Thrust Into The National Spotlight At The Young Age Of Sixteen, The Last Few Years Of Sidney Prescotts

thrust into the national spotlight at the young age of sixteen, the last few years of sidney prescott’s life have been chronicled by headlines telling a harrowing story of a girl plagued by trauma and tragedy. between her mother’s brutal murder and the killing spree that disrupted life in the peaceful community of woodsboro, all by her high school sweetheart’s hand, it’s all most people know about her.
it’s something she desperately wants to change, to leave the past behind her and start anew. but a fresh start isn’t so easy; not when billy loomis seemingly disappeared without a trace before he could be intercepted by the authorities and brought to justice for the murders of maureen prescott and several students at woodsboro, among others. police combed the surrounding areas for weeks, searching for any sign of him, but found nothing. eventually the case went cold and billy loomis became another forgotten news story, a distant memory in the mind of the rest of the world.
but for sidney? he was always stuck in the forefront of her mind, haunting her more in disappearance than he ever had in person, a ghost she couldn’t shake. even as the weeks bled into months, she would find herself looking over her shoulder, checking to make sure there wasn’t a familiar figure in the shadows lurking, stalking, waiting for the chance to strike.
her first semblance of peace came when she packed up her things and moved over two thousand miles east, to windsor’s campus in ohio. college was a natural next step for sidney, and she found herself blossoming out of the darkness woodsboro held for her and into a woman of her own. she had a roommate she got along great with, she had friends who brought out that happy-go-lucky side of her that had been hidden away for too long, and she thrived in her theatre classes. while woodsboro and the thought of billy loomis still creeped up on her now and again, it was easier to shake in a new environment. billy had over a year to make his move, and he hadn’t. maybe she was safe after all.
one night she was walking back to her dorm from the library, the only thing breaking the shroud of the night around campus being the street lamps that lit the way home; when she ran into construction on the main walkway, she opted for a different route: longer by several minutes, but safe. it had to be safe. why wouldn’t it be safe?
the tunnel she took was dark, and chilling, and perhaps not the best move, even though she knew it would place her directly toward her dorm on the other side. but when she finally emerged after what felt like miles of walking, there was no dorm. there was no walkway. the windsor campus had vanished, and in its place was a campfire, with new faces sat in front of the flames, looking as unnerved as she felt, moreso when she learned there was only one way out of this cold, dark place—and getting out was going to be murder.

shoutout (and credit for the original shitpost) to @ghost-you-maybe for finally giving me motivation to draw/sketch/whatever something. Their original post (X) was just funny and I really wanted to draw it
Putting a filter on ghostface was something I didn’t think would be as fun as it was
my favorite part of sidney’s character growth and progression throughout the scream franchise is how she stops compromising her own boundaries and needs to please other people and unapologetically will put her foot down if she’s not comfortable with something
accidentally indulged in too much ‘me time’, turns out i’ve been reported missing for over six months and presumed dead by most local and national authorities
