Warnings: Swearing, heavy thirsting,, stupidity at its finest.

Pairing: LeeMinho!College student x Femalereader!College student

Premise: Your best friend comes up with the dumbest plan you've ever heard of. The plan consisting of having all your friends believing you are dating, all because they accidentally found out you live together. How is this supposed to prove anything? The man of your dreams will just have to stay that, in your dreams.

Authors notes: Hi...... Please please please let me know what you think! I never meant to start writing for SKZ this idea felt so right being for them that I couldn't bring it back. Plus with their comeback and the fact that I am dying to go to their concert. Lord have mercy on Ticketmaster.

“Did you-” Chan breaks the silence, peering up from his laptop at the dining table in his apartment.

“No. Absolutely not.” You try to derail your best friend, not looking up at him at all. Focusing on the book in front of you. You know where this is going already, just by the look you can feel he’s giving you.

He knows you too well at this point. He waits for you to stop chewing on your lip before asking his question. “Did you or did you not sneak taking pictures of Lee today?”

Silence…

“No…..?”

You cringe inwardly, definitely not lying well.

“Felix told me he saw you” He scoffs at your terrible lying. Lying was easy when it was anyone other than Chan. It was almost second nature to you.

“Then why did you even ask me?!” You groan, falling back onto his couch. The book falls out of your hands with a thud, landing on the hardwood floor.

“Why are you stalking him?” You can hear his low chuckle from across the room. You fling yourself over to the side of the couch to look at him.

“I’m not! I’m just taking shots of him without him knowing so I can secretly drool over them later!” You try to plead your case. “Don’t look at me like that, shut up! Let me live in delulu.”

“You can’t be going around taking pictures of him, you freak.”

“OK, I’ll stoooop.” You whine. Ignoring his rude pet name, laying back to stare at his ceiling. “I don’t need to anyways.”

“You have hyunjin sending you pics from their practices don’t you.” It wasn’t a question. It was a statement.

“GAH! Why are you like this?” Grabbing a pillow you attempt to suffocate yourself into the fabric.

“ME? You’re such a weirdo.” He’s enjoying this too much. “Just talk to him”

“Um no.. have you seen him? Absolutely not. Brain is mush. And I will not embarrass myself more than I already do, thank you very much.”

“You are always over at his place anyways. How do you manage to go there and not talk to him?” He inquires as you toss the pillow back to the couch and stand up. Turning to face him you can’t help but shrug.

“Easy. He doesn’t pay me any attention. Besides I’m hanging out with the others and their place is the biggest next to yours but SOMEONE won’t let anyone in.” You remind him.

Chan had the biggest apartment out of the friend group, but for some unknown reason he wouldn’t let anyone over. No one other than you even knew which apartment building was his. Well you could understand why. It was a nice apartment, in a nicer, expensive building. Having all of you over at once was asking for disaster.

Having a game night at Changbins place proved right, when somehow the microwave caught on fire but no one could remember putting anything in there. The remains of the fire gave no clues either to what was actually in there. Changbin moved apartments shortly after that. Still they hadn’t been able to figure out who or what was the cause.

Chan was clearly trying to save his place. You weren’t much better, only a few people had been to yours so in hindsight it did make sense.

“Maybe one day, if they can all promise not to set anything alight.” He chuckles before mumbling under his breath as you leave the room. “Doesn’t pay attention huh? We’ll see about that.”

----

“The love of my life knows I’m living with you, and all of our friends think we’re dating. This is the worst day of my life.” You cry out from the kitchen floor.

Staying at Chans wasn’t really an issue in itself. You had been friends since you were kids, you left to carry on middle school and highschool abroad before he moved to Korea for college. In a blind leap of faith you applied for the same college, and fate decided you two were destined to reunite. You had continued talking the whole time you were apart. You made sure to make time for each other, no matter how hectic life became whether it be facetime or calls or just a quick message. It was constant. It was a constant you needed in your life, one that made you believe you could trust him completely.

Joining his friend group was easier than you thought. They were already a melting pot of different personalities, but all choosing music in some way shape or form as either a minor or major. They just made sense together, so you slipped right into what seemed like an open space they had left vacant for you.

One friend however made things a little more difficult for you. It’s not like he was mean or rude or anything, he just didn’t seem to have much interest in you. Simple conversations, simple answers mostly consisting of shrugs. Unfortunately, the beautiful man that caught your attention upon first meeting clearly didn’t show any signs of wanting to get to know you. But he never seemed like he was annoyed or angry at your presence, so you took that as a win. What you didn’t take as a win but a MASSIVE loss is you falling more and more in love with him.

First his looks caught your eye, then his voice had your ears peaking in interest. And then you had the misfortune of watching him dance and you felt yourself clinging onto the cliff's edge of a love pit. Telling yourself he was only good-looking, nothing else. He must be a terrible person, and must treat his mother badly. Just trying to convince yourself that he was heavily flawed somehow.

You were proven wrong very quickly. Overhearing a phone conversation he was having with his mother and grandmother shut that thought up quickly. And when you heard him ask about his cats back home you all but swooned on the spot. All of your friends were dog people, but you were scared of dogs. You had cats of your own back home, hearing his love for his cats and seeing them plastered everywhere on his phone case you still held onto the notion that he was hopefully a cold uncaring person.

Only yet to be proven wrong. You couldn’t help yourself from watching him. Watching his interactions with the people around him. See how much he took care of his close friends, asking for no thanks in return but silently willing to help any of them out with any problem.

That’s when you knew you were doomed.

And now, because of renos happening in your apartment building you had reluctantly moved into Chan's guest bedroom. The issue was that upon a misunderstanding and accidental cohabitation reveal, a couple of them had realized that you and Chan had hidden the fact that you were staying together. And before Chan could clear anything up, the haste of their departure and apology for being nosey into your lives, congratulations and whines of being kept in the dark left everything muddy.

So that’s where it left you after Chan came home and explained what happened to you, on the floor, mopping.

“No. No, this is perfect!” Chan claps his hands excitedly, sitting down next to you.

“You and I have very different ideas of ‘perfect.’” Complete exasperation forces your voice out. “not only does he ignore me most of the time, but now I have even less of a chance because he thinks I’m taken.”

“Would you shut it a second and let me explain.” He huffs at you.

“Sorry I can’t hear you over my heartbreak” You dramatically cry.

“Well, turn it down and listen because I have a plan.” Sliding to lay down next to you on the cold tiles.

“A plan for what?” You crane your neck to look over at him.

“To prove to your blind ass that he does feel the same way.” He gives you a little shove, your body slightly lolling as you ragdoll.

“Have you been drinking today?” Your suspicion grows. He was out with Felix and Hyunjin this evening, chances are he was.

“…yes but that’s not the point.” Chan scoffs. “If he really thinks you and I are together now, there’s no way he won’t be jealous.”

“Elaboration please.” You are still confused, how could this possibly prove anything.

“Making me do all the work here.” His warm voice mumbles through the cold air. “Think about it. It’s not like we have to act any differently than we normally do. We are affectionate and close anyways. They don’t know that you’re in my guest room, if they ask we just keep things ambiguous. We don’t have to lie, but not give them the whole truth. Let’s let them assume it on their own. If he does truly have feelings for you, like I know he does, then he’ll show it. He may not talk about this kind of thing but his actions speak a lot louder than anything.”

“I see where this is going. And it sounds terrible.”

“Cmon what have you got to lose?” He had a point, but you were too stubborn to agree already.

“My reputation for people thinking I’m dating you.”

“Ok, ouch and here I am just trying to help.” His hand clutches his chest dramatically in pain. “Seriously, it’s a good plan. I’ll prove I’m right once and for all.”

You don’t need to mull it over. It does make sense what he’s saying, but the fear of you being right instead of him is what makes you hesitant. You let out a deep sigh.

“Fiiine.”

----

A few weeks after Chan's self-titled ‘Compromising Lee’ mission discussion, he had reluctantly agreed to let the boys come over for dinner. Much to their persistence and whining, only if they agreed to be on their best behaviors. Unbeknownst to you but very obviously to Chan Seungmins now interest was a clear sign of Minho wanting to get closer to find out if you were really dating.

Or at least that's what Chan tried to convince you of. Seungmin never voiced a desire to see his friend's place, he rarely cared about these things. But your best friend was overly excited about it, chirping on about how he was going to ‘show you Channie is always right’, to which you had scoffed and feigned a gag.

So now it came to this. Chan leading a tour through his large two bedroom upscale, top floor apartment, with everyone in tow. Except for you, you had been charged with starting to cook dinner. In hindsight, you don’t remember how you specifically got roped into this.

“What’s in this room?” Felix’s voice echoed from the hallway towards the bedrooms.

“Ah it was an empty guest room, but right now all of Y/n's stuff is in there.” Chan chimed happily bounding his way back to you on the completion of the tour.

You had just finished preparing all of the meat and vegetables when they shuffled back to the open kitchen and living room. Some moved to check out the entertainment system, some to aimlessly look through Chan's things scattered about the room.

“How much stuff did you bring?” Hyunjin snarked as he sat down on an island stool.

“I did have my own place before I moved in here.” You match his sass, eyebrow raising to him in mirth. “What did you want me to do, leave all my furniture behind? I just shoved it all in there for now.”

“Makes sense.” Felix nods in understanding, joining Hyunjin. As they start conversing, your eyes drift over to Chan, the excitement is written all over his face as his hands wildly animating whatever he’s talking about to IN and Jisung. In your peripherals you can finally take in Minho sitting on the couch with Seungmin discussing something you can’t hear, his face as beautifully stoic as ever. Bare faced, hair slightly messy, black pants and his favourite grey baggy hoodie. Your favourite hoodie. One that if you could you had any chance to, you would steal and wear 24/7. How cozy would you be surrounded by his scent? His warmth?

Your mind begins to wander dangerously away to your fairytale land, eyes drifting to stare down at the raw cut vegetables in front of you. However, you are quickly shocked out of it when you feel someone lean into you from behind. Chans giggle gives him away instantly.

“Seung, do you think you could help me sometime this week with a vocal project I’m working on?” The chest rumbles behind you as the arms caging you snuck out and stole a piece off the cutting board to munch behind you. “Actually Lee it would be great if I could get your help too.”

“Sure Chan, whatever you need.” He states quickly, the tone in his voice made a weird feeling crawl up your skin. You look up just in time to see Minho look away abruptly to turn to his phone.

Only offering a grunt in response. Weird. Something about Seungmin’s voice made you feel uneasy, you peer back to look at the man still clinging to you. The only thing you get from him is a shrug and a slight smirk. Clearly you had missed something, something he very much will taunt you about later.

----

“What do you think?” Han whispers, joining the mins on the couch.

“Well she definitely lives here. No doubt about that.” Seungmin flatly declares.

Minho doesn’t try to hide his annoyed eye roll. He can see you and Chan in the kitchen, flirting back and forth like normal, your normal friendly flirty banter. He’s starting to regret coming here, the signs of you cohabitating causing tension to ride in his body.

Chan continues to glue himself to you as you continuously brush him off to keep cooking. He had been stunned momentarily when you answered the door, your long hair in soft natural curls falling down your back, cute bunny slippers on your feet, and mint green fuzzy lounge set making you look like the most amazing thing to cuddle when falling asleep. But like the pro he has become around you he managed to stonewall himself, into indifference.

“She knows where everything is and she hasn’t asked him once if she can use anything.” Seungmin elaborates swiftly, noticing the look on Minho's face.

“Right and all of her stuff is mixed in with Chans. Instead of segregated spaces.” Han nods.

“It doesn’t confirm that they are actually dating though. Neither of them have said that they are.” Seungmin looks to a tense jawed Minho. “I told you, you needed to make a move before someone else did.”

“I know. I just-” Minho trails off. It’s not that he didn’t want to tell you how he felt, it was just that he felt like he couldn’t. You were so independent, so opinionated, unafraid to be you, and he… well he was possessive, clingy and unintentionally stiff. He liked your spunk. It was so you. So What was he supposed to do? Try to chain you to his side because he’d want to be with you 24/7, wanting to feel you against him in any way he could, hear your voice telling him all the sweet things he imagined?

Besides, the chances of you actually returning his feelings were zero to none.

More so now, with Chan being an uncalculated option.

“I know you know, but now I have to live with a very moody…you.” Seungmin groans outwardly, reclining back on the couch.

He sends a not so subtle glare in Seungmin’s direction as the man leans back. As he does he catches your eye, upon making eye contact the glare falls from his face and his eyes widen slightly. His breath hitches and catches in his throat, you give him a soft shy smile before turning back to Felix. His whole body feels stuck, his mind reels. He can’t forget that smile, the smile that reached your eyes. The smile directed at him.

That smile was for him and him alone.

He blinks rapidly back to his two friends sharing the same confused look. He forces his body to remember to breathe again. He avoids your eyes for the rest of the night, afraid of the never settling butterflies threatening to erupt out of his stomach.

“Bin, is it alright if y/n swings by to grab something from me?” Chan breaks the concentration in the room.

“Yea, fine by me.” Changbin nods absentmindedly before looking up to the older. “What’s she up to tonight? Felix wanted to hang but she said she had plans.”

“She’s going out with the girls tonight, I think she mentioned something about the Insomnia club? I don’t know.” He shrugs, keeping an unconcerned aura about him, before excitedly sending you a final text. ‘Changbin says you can come by’

Minho starts to lose interest in the words in front of him. The project being slowly forgotten by the thought of getting to see you tonight. But his mind recalls a very significant detail about Insomnia, thankfully he doesn’t need to say anything as Changbin voices his unheard uneasiness

“The one with the handsy bartender? Damn, ballsy.”

Thank god for Changbin. Minho continues to stare at the papers in front of him, trying to really force a mask of indifference. His body reacting slightly to the conversation betraying his discomfort to the one person set on exploiting it. So, if it’s an indifference battle, Chan is set on winning.

“I guess” And like that, he watches Minho hand tighten around the pen he’s holding, sitting up a little straighter before slumping completely over his textbook and pretending to completely immerse himself in it.

“*whistles* Shit yn, looking good” Changbin calls out to you as you let yourself into his apartment.

“Nice to see you too Bin” You wink as you walk over to the table, resting against the end before looking at your best friend.“Chan can I have my portable charger please?”

He blinks at you momentarily before remembering his own plan.“Yea it’s in my backpack give me a second.”

Shifting weight from one leg to another, slight heels extenuating your leg muscles. Dress length to mid thigh, hugging all the right curves on your body. You had gone for a soft glam makeup look tonight, making sure you were dewy in all the right places to catch the light. That included your exposed collarbones and shoulders. Your hair was in your go-to loose waves, it did what it wanted anyways, so why fight it?

You try your best not to look at Minho as you wait, ignoring your need to look at the beautifully soft man. Seeing his sweatpants and baggy blank t-shirt with messy hair upon entering. One of your top 5 looks on him. His dance performance attire was something to drool over for sure, but something about him looking so comfy made your stomach do flips.

“What time will you be home?” Chan asks, handing over one of his portable chargers.

“I don’t know? When we’re bored?” You shrug, answering normally. He gave you a partial idea of what to say, so the rest you figured you were to keep it as true as possible.

“Ok. what about a jacket? Aren’t you going to get cold?” He looks you up and down quizzically like he wasn’t the one to tell you to wear it.

You scan down your outfit before you recall his instructions. “I couldn’t find the one I wanted. I think my leather one is still in a box somewhere. And I wasn't about to ruin my outfit with the other ones I have.”

“You should have grabbed mine.” Amused blase dripped from his voice. You have no idea where this plan of his is going but you do your best to maintain it.

“I would have if I thought about it. But I don't have time to go back now, and I gotta go or else I’m going to be late and I do NOT need Lia nagging at me again.” A pout creeps onto your lips before you turn to leave. “Bye guys have fun with your homework”

Two out of three of the boys wave to you as you depart, heading back into the taxi you arrived in to meet with your girls. You need to relax, one night you need to not be thinking about Minho as you fall asleep. Maybe the partying and alcohol would help, hell maybe even finding someone nice to flirt with.

After a few silent breaths and he’s sure you’ve left the building he can’t help his anger rise. Chan on the other hand is fighting within himself to stay calm. Not wanting to get too excited as he waits for the inevitable reaction from Minho.

“You’re actually letting her out dressed like that without you around?” Minho fists clench under the table, knuckles turning white as the image of you in that unholy dress engraves itself into his very being.

Chan looks up confused, like he wasn’t expecting to have to talk about you. “Huh? Oh yea.”

“Seriously?” There’s a slight bite to Minho. Chan does his best to stone face and seem annoyed by Minho's tone.

“Yes Lee *eye roll* I am. She’s a big girl, she can handle herself.”

“I’m with Minho on this. The last time we all went to that bar the bartender was really pushy and we were all there next to her. I can’t imagine what that slimy sack of nothing is going to try without us there. Not to mention her looking like an 8 course meal.” Changbin agrees.

A gasp escapes from Chan, a hint of laughter bubbling from him now. “Changbin, What would your boyfriend say?”

“He would agree. All 8 courses.”

Minho becomes increasingly uncomfortable with Chan's dispassion at your whereabouts. His possessiveness makes his skin itch, he knows he has no right to be. But seeing you dressed up, look even more stunning than you normally do is making his brain short circuit.

Chan might be able to just sit here and do nothing, but he can’t.

----

“Soooo are you gonna tell me what happened or do I have to force it out of you?” Chan sings happily as he flops down on your bed next to you. His face screams with eagerness as his body shakes with excitement.

“I have no idea what youre talking about…” You bite your lip and look over to the leather jacket hanging on your closet door.

“So you’re telling me, you’ve been stupidly happy since the night you went out because you finally accepted the advances of creepy mc creep and NOT because I saw you walk around the next day wearing Lee’s jacket in the house?” He tries to pout at you, but it only looks ridiculous on him. You can’t help but attempt to stifle a laugh behind your hand.

“Shut it. Nothing happened.” You manage to huff.

“Uh huh…..he went to the club and?” He starts for you.

“Aaaand, nothing. Seriously. He said he was out for a walk because you guys were taking a break and he happened to wander my way and remembered I didn't have a jacket so he wanted to check up on me for you. Then he saved me from a very shifty moment with said bartender and let me borrow his jacket and then left.” You say out in a rush, the need to defend yourself as well as his motives becomes increasingly necessary for your heart rate. “See nothing happened.”

“How the hell is that nothing? I’m starting to get worried about you.” Chan blanks at you, shaking his head at your dismissals. “I never asked him to check on you, you know. That one was all him.”

He adds before shuffling off your bed and out the door. “He was worried about you.”

You blush, hope ignites deep within you. But like a kindling flame you burn it out quicker then it started. He was just looking out for a friend's girlfriend. He hadn’t taken an interest in you before. He was just in the neighborhood, that's all.

He’s just a good friend to Chan.

----

Since that night it was like Minho seemed to appear around you alot more. Or was it the same and you just noticed even more because of that stupid bud of hope Chan planted in you. But days like today are when you noticed it. Normally when you were over at Seungmin and Minho’s place, Minho would be hiding in his room, only coming out for food occasionally or to just see what you guys were up to and then he’d retreat back.

Today however he had opted to stay in the living room with you Seungmin, Felix, and Hyunjin. You all had started the evening with ordering food and playing a new board game Felix had found and now it lay abandoned half played on the coffee table as the group began to look through Netflix for a movie to watch. And abnormally, there was Minho sitting on one of the big comfy chairs, watching the game progress with his phone untouched next to him. Which once again was strange, he was always on it when you were around.

“Oooo let’s watch this one. I haven't seen it yet!” You point excitedly at the thumbnail of a new horror movie that just came out.

“It was nice having you over y/n you can leave now.” Seungmin barks at you.

“Oh come on, I’ve been begging Chan for weeks to watch it, but he’s too scared.” You exasperatedly sigh. “You’ll vote for this movie right Minho?”

You knew Minho liked horror movies too, Jisung had told you. Unfortunately you had somehow forgotten that he probably didn’t know that you knew. Or maybe it was your own shock from remembering that small fact, as Jisung let it slip over a year ago and you’ve never forgotten.

His blank gaze stuns you for a moment before you scrunch your nose up in defeat, grabbing another bite of food.

“How is Chan by the way? I haven't talked to him in a while. He’s always busy.” Felix changed the subject unknowing of your rising heat from embarrassment.

“I don’t know” You shrug at him.

“What do you mean you dont know. You live together.” Hyunjin pipes up.

“I mean yea, but he hasn’t been home for like a month or so.” You snatch the remote from Seungmins grasp and continue scrolling.

Everyone's attention snaps to you.

“A MONTH?!” Hyunjin squeals.

“Calm down drama llama, he’s got upcoming production projects and presentations. He’s got a lot on his plate.”

“But still, he doesn’t take a break to come see you? Or facetime you? Or call you?” Felix tries to find some hope in your communication.

“Last time we talked was 2 weeks ago I think?” You think back. “That was only cause I was asking him where all the extra comforters were, because Innie and Ji were over for a movie night.”

Minho remembers that night. He was jealous that Jisung got to spend the night at your place. He felt stupidly bitter when he told him. But even when Jisung had extended the invite he couldn't bring himself to go. He may have decided being in love with you from afar was enough, but recently it was getting harder and harder to hide his feelings. Times like this he wanted to out himself, claim he could treat you better then Chan ever could. But he couldn’t do that to a friend, no matter how much it hurt to secretly love you now.

“If there was anything wrong he’d let me know.” Your only reasoning.

But there was something very wrong with it. All of it. How could Chan treat you like this? He once again feels his anger rising, so without saying anything or looking at anyone he leaves the room. Three of you back to bantering about the movie, all oblivious to Minho holding his bottom lip in a vice grip between his teeth in order to silence himself. Not quite all, Seungmin remains silent as he watches Minho leave the room. He knows how Minho is, as best friends and as roommates he knows the signs. He prides himself on being able to read Minho pretty well, but most recently in times like this watching his friend become physically displaced by his jealousy and his brooding makes him wish he couldn't.

----

Leaving the coffee shop with a blushing Chan in tow you couldn't help but coo at him.

The ever so lovely blonde barista there giving you two your drinks for free. The same barista being the only reason you two went there. The coffee was good, but Chan’s need to embarrass himself in front of her was even greater.

“I’m telling you, she likes you.” You mused at him. “Next time get her number and then you can finally invite her over. Once I’m out of your hair, you have free reign again.”

The renos for your place were almost done, you were given the notice for moving back in next week. You two would have to separate again. Over this past while everything just felt like it made sense being together. That sense of home you’ve both been missing being made up by each other's presence. A part of you was sad about it, but you needed your space again.

You sip on your iced coffee as you keep making the walk back to Chans apartment. Upon realizing that he stopped some step behind you, you turn to him. The shades of red in his cheeks now gone, but now replaced with scrunched eyebrows and a look of agitation.

“What if I want to make this permanent?” He finally looks up at you.

“I need my own space, Chan.”

“I’m just saying. Stay. Live here. Don’t go back.” He looks down at his feet again, sadness now evident. The only person Chan was ever selfish with was you, just like you were with him. Some unspoken right to want more and receive more. “I know it’s selfish of me, but is it so wrong that I really love having you with me?”

Unheard by the two of you in your sappy declarations in the middle of the sidewalk, Minho comes to a stop just around the corner upon hearing your voices. Catching part of chans speech, he hid, not feeling like he was allowed in your moment but also not being able to drag himself out of earshot.

“I love being with you too.” You agree, searching his face for any hidden emotions. “I’ve always loved being there.”

“Having you around 24/7 is my favourite thing keeping me sane right now.” Chan almost pleads to you, needing to justify himself for doing what you’ve both always done. Be that constant. “Being able to breathe, relax and have fun. I need you here, you are my family, my home away from home.”

“Alright.” You step towards him, arms coming up to encircle his shoulders, you feel his body relax as he hugs you back. “I’ll sell all my extra stuff. I’ll come home.”

The arms around you tighten.

Tighten, just like the pain in Minho's chest as he hears your words. You and Chan mean so much to each other, no one would have ever had a chance with you. Chan was your everything. He had to let this go, he had to get over you. Had to accept that you were happy with Chan. Accept the rejection that was never actually given to him.

Regaining his surroundings he takes off back the way he came. The reason he came down this way is completely forgotten by the need to lock himself in his room.

He’d let it go, for you and for Chan….and for himself.

----

You burst through the apartment door, your body in a flurry. Face red from sprinting all the way there. Jisung and Seungmin shoot up from the couch, completely taken by surprise by your entrance.

“Where is he?” You shout, spewing with anger. Eyes darting around in search of your target.

“What?” Seungmin asks, confused.

“Where is Minho?” Out of breath, you fight the urge to snap at them.

“His room?” Jisung points timidly to Minho’s room, jumping at each move you make.

You stomp your way over to his door, reaching out for the handle and turning. Locked. Another angry flash, you knock aggressively.

“Minho, open up. We need to talk.” You can’t stop your voice from coming out as a yell.

Great now you’re yelling.

“What's going on y/n?” Seungmin asks cautiously, having followed you to the doorway. There’s no way you would be acting like this, especially toward Minho if something serious didn’t happen. You weren’t the type to fly off the handle, yes sometimes you acted a little dramatic, but for the most part you were extremely level headed. So this right now in his apartment, he never would have guessed in a hundred years would be happening. “What's wrong?”

No answer from inside, so you bang on the door harder this time. The urge to break the door down growing stronger as his silence continues.

“Minho!!” You roar, your voice almost burning as you force it out. “This is ridiculous. OPEN THIS DOOR.”

A still nothing creeps out, you’re almost seeing complete red now, so this time you kick at the wooden slab in your way.

“You don’t get to punch my best friend in the face and not expect me not to do anything! GET YOUR ASS OUT OF THERE!”

“You Punched CHAN?!” Jisung squeals in horror, slightly shielded by Seungmin.

“Holy shit.” Seungmin mumbles almost to himself. But unfortunately not to himself enough for you to not hear it. “could it be because of what Chan said to that blonde girl at the coffee shop?”

“You think? Chan really backpedaled hard when we caught him flirting with her and getting her number” Jisung whispers in return.

Once again not quiet enough.

“He punched him because of….What the actual hell?!” You can’t believe it. All you can hear is the blood pumping in your ears. You are angry….you were angry…..wait what were you…

The boys think you and Chan are dating.

The boys think Chan neglects you as his girlfriend.

The boys think Chan is trying to hookup with other girls when he’s with you.

The boys think Chan doesn’t care.

They all know how important Chan is to you. That you two describe each other as home.

None of them have said anything concerning. They all have seen what has happened and accepted it.

But Minho showed up at the club, jacket in hand.

Minho threatened the bartender.

Minho was always around.

Minho began to stare at you, you’ve caught him on numerous occasions.

Minho leaves the room when you talk about Chan.

Minho punched Chan because he thought your boyfriend was cheating on you.

Chan's words ring in your mind. ‘If he really thinks you and I are together now, there’s no way he won’t be jealous.’ ,‘I’ll prove I’m right once and for all.’

“Minho come out please, we really need to talk. Fuck, everything is so messed up.”

You think about what you know about Minho. Minho always speaks in his actions. What are his actions pointing towards? It’s now or never, you need to know.

Turning to Seungmin and Jisung, you hold your gaze firm. Mind made up. “I need you both to tell me this right now. Yes or no. Does Minho have feelings for me?”

“Y/n…we can't say–”

They shift awkwardly on the spot, eyes darting from you to each other trying to divert attention. That was all the confirmation you needed.

Without letting your anxiety talk you out of it you quickly pull out your phone, unlocking it and opening the photo albums. Your sneaky Minho album, that you’ve continued to add to without Hyunjins help even after Chan's plan was put in motion. You slide it under the door, well you can’t turn back now.

“Please just look at my phone. Please?” You almost end up begging against the cold door. “You all just assumed that Chan and I were together. Of course we love each other, but we're just friends, like brother and sister. I’ve been staying in his guest room, since my building is under renos. Chan has a crush on the blonde girl barista in the coffee shop near his place. I’ve been helping him flirt with her for months”

Deep breath.

“I’m in love with-”

The door flies open. Your breath hitches as you see the man of your dreams, smile so dazzling you feel as though you’ve entered one of your fantasies again.

“You.”

You finally mumble out.

Without saying anything he reaches an arm out, holding something towards you. You expect to see your phone when you look down but you're shocked to see his phone, screen unlocked, photos open to an album titled ‘mint-bun’ filled with candid photos of you, selfies you had posted and cropped group shots.

Shocked is an understatement as you look back up to him.

“I’m in love with you too.” His eyes are strong and determined, looking directly into your own, as he confesses.

Maybe sometimes Chan was right, even if his plan was stupid.

How Far

Maybe this may have been because of heartbreak, maybe it was about time you discovered yourself again. Whatever it was that lead you to using your couples package refund to book a round-trip flight to Korea, you should be thankful for.

Should you be thankful for finding out your longterm boyfriend was cheating on you? That because of his sloppiness you found out before your planned trip to Mexico, one you had talked about getting engaged while there. You guess it was better knowing now then later. But it still stung nonetheless.

The question really was: would you have said yes? Was he someone you’d want to spend the rest of your life with?

Probably not. That’s why it didn’t hurt as much as you knew it should have.

Boarding the plane, you stow away your carry-on in its designated space, buckling your seat as you made yourself comfortable. Earphones in, music set to a special playlist you had made while sitting at your gate, trying to calm your thunderous heart.

The old crumpled photo your parents took over a decade ago lingering in your sweater pocket. It being one of the reasons you chose your new destination. One summer family trip that never really left you. Someone who never left you.

Remembering the boy who’s smile caught your eye. One you never forgot. Wondering now what he was doing, what he was up to in his life. Was he happily married with kids? Did his dreams to dance come true? The language barrier making it harder to really get to know him, but still that summer you had spent every free moment with each other; whether it be you reading and him play games. You keeping him company as he studied. Watching him dance at a youth centre. Playing games at the local arcade. Only using nicknames with each other as a fun little inside summer joke between you. Life felt so easy with the cute boy leading you around on fun day trips. You had promised to write to each other but life has a way of getting away from you.

The memories now shrouded in a haze, along with his face now a blur. His smile still as radiant as ever, but his features began to slowly fade over time. The question always remained; why in times like these did his memory always resurface. Was a first love failing by impossibility call for a constant reminder when each relationship crumbled? When each one broken worse by the last, yet not hurting as much as it should. You guessed never getting over your first made it really hard to fully accept the others. No matter how you tried to convince yourself you had forgotten, you never really had.

The presence of a figure sits beside you. You don’t bother removing your gaze from a cloudy spec on the window. Allowing yourself to be absorbed into a silent calm in your mind as they also got comfortable for the flight.

Your music is cut by the vibrations of your phone, glancing down to it sitting in your lap. The number memorized even if the contact itself was erased.

You let yourself answer, hopefully for the last time. Allowing your airpods to connect.

“Hello.” You sigh, chin resting on your hand as you leant towards the window.

“Y/N! Thank god you answered. Please just hear me out, I’m begging you. I’m sor-.” Your ex boyfriends voice rings in your ears.

“Stop.” You cut him off, hand fumbling to your pocket to pull out the photo. “I’ve heard all the voicemails you left me, I’ve read every text. I know.”

Your gaze shifts to the boy in the vanishing moment of time. Your fingers run over his figure, giving you a sense of reassurance.

“I know.” You breathe deeply.

“Y/n-”

“It’s not ok what you did, but I’m ok with us ending. I’m ok with you wanting to be with her, I’m ok with walking away from you. I just-” What exactly did you want….you weren’t even sure. “I just wish you had told me before I found out like that.”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you…”

“You didn’t mean a lot of things. I was shocked yes, but more hurt you wouldn’t communicate that something was wrong with us. Regardless, I’m ok now.” A soft smile plays on your lips as you study each crease of the photo, the outline of the boy next to you, the ice creams in hand and the smile on your face. “We can say goodbye and we’ll both be alright. Just be happy, ok?”

A long pause before you hear a light sniffle on the other end. He may cry, but you won’t. Not now, not later.

“You too, Y/N.” His voice breaks.

“Goodbye.” You hang up the call.

“This is your fault you know.” You roll your eyes at the boy, giving a chuckle. “If only you hadn’t made me fall in love with you all those years ago, maybe I’d find a decent guy. No one wants to be second in someones heart.”

The pilots announcements cut through the rest of the passengers, settling everyone down before the plane heads to the runway.

“As long as I’m still first, Sunshine. Because you’ll always be first for me, no matter how far apart we are.” A voice comes from the person next to you. Stunned you turn to look them for the first time. A radiant smile beams at you, the same smile that lives in your memories.

“Jay” A gasp escapes you.

“Hoseok.” He corrects, his smile almost becoming too bright to look at. You scan over his face, recognition fully hits you as an older version of the boy in the photo.

Not only that, but a new wave of recognition hits you causing a joyful laugh to escape you.

“Y/N.”

Floored

“You do realize that boy is madly in love with you right?”  Changbin breaks you out of your concentration bubble, going over study material in your head as you wipe down tables. Your hand stils, peering over at him over your shoulder, standing behind the counter. He had been cleaning the desert bar behind you when you both had dropped into a comfortable silence.

“Yes.” You turn to face him, arms crossed over your work apron, cloth in hand. “Wait, which one?”

“Are you implying there’s more then one?” He scoffs, eyes rolling away from you as he put down a cup he had finished drying.

“No, I’m just verifying that we are talking about the same person and I haven’t neglected to notice something” You shrug innocently. You had an idea of who he was talking about, only one person crossed your mind. Besides being Changbins coworker and bestfriend, it opened up your acquaintance pool quiet a bit, but it did make dating hard because people assumed you were taken. Much to your disgust.

“Jisung.”

“Oh, then yes I have realized.” Tables now abandoned like his mug drying you saunter over to the cash counter, voice still filled with nonchalance.

“Ok? And you have plans to do what about it?” Now someone was being too nosy for their own good.

“No plans. I have no intentions to say anything.” Casually you wipe down the counter, moving over to him.

“Come again?” Disbelief coats his voice. This catches your attention, seeing the genuine confusion on his face you feel a touch annoyed. So you huff at him.

“I’m not going to force him out. If he wants to tell me he can and if he doesn’t want to then that’s ok too.”

Jisung tended to be really shy and jumpy around you. You had noticed it immediately, when it didnt subside like the others said it would you grew suspicious. So you kept an eye on him, doing things that may have been subtly accidental or maybe they werent exactly accidents, either way you would watch his reactions. It wasn’t hard to put two and two together. He wasn’t a hard read.

“But you at least have an answer?” Changbin still pushes

“More or less” You nod, pretending to drop deep in thought.

Now it was his turn to look annoyed, impatiently tsking at you “.......Are you going to tell me your answer?”

“No” You nonchalantly brush off, making your way past him into the back room.

“Ouch you’re gonna break our sungies heart” Feigning dramatics, he clutches his chest staggering slightly, but perfectly catching himself with his free arm on the counter.

Stopping in the door way you laugh at his antics, shooting back a dramatic eye roll before clarifying. “No as in I’m not going to tell you.”

You throw the dirty cloth in your hand at his head, he barely catches it in him before it splats dirty water onto his face. You let the door swing shut behind you before receiving retaliation but ot soon enough kto not here him shout at you.

“Come on! Seriously?!”

🧁🧁🧁🧁

“I know I won’t be able to reach the same bulk as Changbin, but at least my definition has improved.” Jeongin sighs, showing the picture on his phone of him and Changbin at the gym flexing to Minho and Jisung. “Thakfully he’s been alot of help.”

“I think you’re making great progress, Innie.” Minho chimes, nodding in approval. “There’s no point in comparing.”

“True.” Pulling his phone back he begins to zoom out on the picture.

“Wait!” Minho grabs Jeongin’s arm from receding, realizing himself that there is more to the picture. “Damn, I wasn’t expecting that.”

He chuckles as Jeongin pulls back “Right? You’d never know under those clothes huh?”

“Under what clothes?” Jisung finally comes back into the conversation. He barely looked at the picture Jeongin showed before going back to the webtoon on his phone.

“Don’t show him-” Minho tries too stop the youngest before he can fully turn his phone to Jisung. Ultimately failing.

A loud crash echos through the apartment. Jisung had not only caught a glimpse of the full photo, but upon doing so had lost the ability to to keep balance on the chair. Plummeting to the floor from the barstool he was sitting on.

“You literally floored him, again.” Minho couldn’t help but laugh at his bestfriend. Clutching his stomach, he wiped his eyes from tears, before focusing his concern. “Are you ok Sungie?”

“She’s not w-wearing a-a-a- shirrr” Jisung chokes from his harsh landing. Zooming out of the picture exposed that next to IN was you. You were also flexing as a joke, to make fun of the boys. More times than not they would drag you with them to the gym, normally in the middle of the night.

In that particular picture you three had ended your weight training session and were getting ready to head home. So you were wearing black sweats that hung low on your hips along with your favourite sports bra and cap, sweat glistening off your body. It had been a really stressful day at the cafe and then with exams so to blow off steam you had mentioned that you were going. Which led the other two to coming with you.

With Changbin being your bestfriend and Jeongin feeling like your younger brother, you felt comfortable to wear whatever you wanted around them.

“She doesn’t normally wear a shirt when we work out. Just a sports bra and joggers or sometimes shorts.” The youngest smirks, he knows he provoking. This isn’t a version of you that the others normally got to see.

“You’ve been seeing her this whole time like this and you didn’t tell me?!” Jisung groaned, remaining on the floor, holding his chest in mock pain. “I think I might pass out…”

“I’ve invited you before but you’re the one who said you couldn’t come.” Jeongin nonchalantly shrugs, eyes cast to him on the floor. “Always coming up with lame excuses.”

“What if she thinks I’m like super weak?! What if I embarrass myself…again?”

“I’m pretty sure she won’t be surprised by it anymore. She must be used to it.” Minho snickers evily, giving Jisung a light tap with his foot.

“How are you ever going to get anywhere with this crush if you wont hang out with her?” Jeongin pushes. “We all can be with her one on one but you.”

“It’s not that simple! I can’t just ask her to hang out now, she’d think it was weird.”

Laying on his back on the floor staring at the texture on the ceiling he misses an evil smile appear on the youngests face, an idea emerging.

“...not just a crush…” He mumbles to himself, dread weighing him down. He had to be confident, he had to show you he wasn’t the weird, possibly creepy, clumsy friend. That he genuinely wanted to be around you, to get to know you.

Maybe that was asking too much of his cowardess. Maybe he should stay here, on the floor.

🧁🧁🧁🧁

Somehow constantly keeping a cautious subtle eye on Jisung, had turned into you truly not being able to look away. When he was in his own world, muttering to himself, becoming flustered over his clumsiness, passionately talking about his music with the group, munching on his favourite snacks, he was beyond cute. There was something so endearing about him you couldn’t bring yourself to neglect. At that point you had slipped passed sneaking glances to full blown staring, not because you had to but because you wanted to. You wanted to keep looking at him all the time.

Times he glanced at you and caught you, you had offered a soft smile and watched the blushing panic grow on his face. By the time you noticed what was happening you were too far gone, you had slowly, accidentally fallen for the cute quokka.

But still, it looked like he was struggling around you. The last thing you wanted to do was overwhelm him. You wanted him to be brave and tell you about his crush so you could claim the same. You were afraid you might scare him away from you farther if you tried to approve, so you stayed casually in the same group but never having one on one. Unless he came in to sit at his usual corner table, with his cheesecake and iced americano, laptop infront of him and headphones on. Once again lost in his world.

Just like he was today, right now.

The cafe was slow, only an hour left until closing. There was currently 2 tables with a single person at them, giving you plenty of time to stare. You were at the counter refilling straws and stir sticks when you vaguely heard the chime of the front door. You were too distracted by the excitement sparkling his his eyes and the wide smile on his face.

He claps for himself, clearly giddy with something he’s done. Realzing he’s created an outward fuss, his eyes widen darting around the cafe. His eyes lock on yours, somehow growing even wider then you thought possible. You give him a small wave, a small giggle leaving you. You’re too far for him to hear, not to mention his head phones, but the wave itself was clearly too much for him.

His hands fly up to cover his face, collapsing on the table infront of him.

Ok, that you weren’t prepared for. He’d never actually hidden from you before. This time you cant stop the laugh that erupts, you’re head shaking at his ridiculously adorable reaction.

A harsh throat clearing breaks you out of your trance, startling you. You quickly look over at the order counter, heart racing, body ready for fight or flight reflexes, customer service smile plastered on your face. Trying to hide all traces of the almost heart attack. But you abandon that plan quickly when you see who is there.

“Couldn’t of found a nicer way to get my attention?” You shoot at them.

“I called your name 3 times Y/N.” Jeongin chortles. “Apparantly you had something important on your mind.”

He glaces over, your eyes following his. By the time you look back to him he already staring you down, a smirk plastered on his face. You’ve definitely been caught. There’s no point in trying to hide it from the youngest, he’s always been too perceptive for his own good.

“You could say that.” You sigh, ignoring the look he's giving you. “The usual I’m guessing for the late night run?”

“Mhmmmmm.”

You punch in his order in relative silence, it’s not until you start to make his order to go that he finally speaks.

“There’s no way Ji would be able to see the heart eyes you’re ever so not subtly sending him, you however…… theres no way that you don’t see his crush on you.” He states matter-of-factly.

You only nod and hum to in response, continue to keep your eyes down and hands busy.

“If that’s the case why don’t I jus-”

“Innie.” You cut him off. “I don’t plan to tell anyone, and that includes Jisung.”

Sighing you shake your head and turn away to grab his order packaging. He’s silent once again, this time only for a moment.

“Why not?”

You face him, all seriousness and honesty laid out. Only one person other than yourself will know. Not even Changbin.

“Even with my feelings for Jisung, you’ve seen how he reacts around me. He might have a crush, but he can’t even handle sitting next to me. If there’s a chance we end up just the two of us he finds any excuse to leave. If it’s just a crush I don’t want to force him to do anything he doesn’t want to.” You explain calmly.

“Y/N, I think there’s more to his feelings then you think.” Jeongin suggests, eyes almost pleading. “He struggles with self doubt and self worth sometimes.”

“If he’s scared to be around me, how could he be with me?” You counter, eyebrow raising in question.

Finishing to pack his order you look back to hand it over and see he is standing at Jisungs table talking. Jisung’s headphones are now off but he looks nervous as he chews on his bottom lip. Whatever they were discussing it made you uneasy. Before you could rationalize anything Jeongin was back infront of you, taking the bag out of your hands.

“Please tell me you didn’t tell him…” Your voice wavers, unsure if it was a good idea to tell him anything. Too self aware to look at Jisung now, if the youngest mentioned anything, there goes any attempt to get closer to the jumpy quokka.

“No, I didn’t and I won’t.” He expresses genuinely concerned. You exhale the breath you didn’t realize you were holding. “On one condition.”

“What do you want you evil steamed roll?” You should have seen that coming.

“You, me and Jisung are going to the movies tomorrow night. You have the night off- Changbin told me. Ji and I are already going, everyone else is busy.” He’s too cheerful in his response. Making you feel highly suspicious.

You weigh your options. On one hand, you had no idea what Jeongin had planned in his diabolical brain, which knowing him…you might need to be scared. On the other hand, you could possibly get closer to Jisung if he could relax around you in a smaller group.

“Promise to keep this between us then?”

“Yep. As long as you come!” He exclaims excitedly, but still firm in your part of the deal.

“Ok, fine.” You concede.

Really, what was he planning?

🧁🧁🧁🧁

“And here I thought I was early.” You chuckle as you approach Jisung standing just inside the entrance of the theatre. He looked slightly nervous when you noticed him from afar, his eyes glued to his phone in his hands. His fingers rapidly typing away unbeknownst to him you had arrived.

He jumps at the sound of your voice, wide eyes shoot up to meet with yours. He flinches again when he realizes how close you’re standing to him.

“Y/N! You’re h-here!” He sputters taking a step away from you. You pretend his obvious recoil doesn’t feel like a punch in the gut. Knowing that he had a crush on you didn’t stop the tinge of heartbreak that crushed your lingering hope, by his reactions. But that would never mean you’d want him to know how much it hurt.

You smile softly at him, faking obliviousness. “Yep. Is Innie here too?”

You scan the crowd to see if you could find the youngest of your trio. You don’t see him lingering anywhere, but a mumble of a noise from the other jostled your focus back to him. He had his phone held out for you to see, his face slowly turning a shade of pink. You lean closer to get a better look at it but you notice his hand shaking.

Without thinking you reach out to grasp his hand, keeping him and his phone steady. You hear a squeak escape him, you ignore the panic rise in you slightly as you register what you’ve done. Instead you focus on the phone:

Floored

“Ah…” You want to throttle this bread boy. You steady your breath as you can feel your heart rate increase. Eyes lifting up to now look at Jisung, the pink on his cheeks and neck now a slightly darker shade. Even in the dim lights of the foye can’t hide the colour. “He’s sending the tickets?”

You slowly drop his hand as to not startle him.

“....yea….” He avoids eye contact with you, looking over to the box office, chewing on his bottom lip.

It gives you a moment to really look at him. He’s now holding the hand that you had close to his body, his other hand encasing it. If you hadn’t known what just happened you would say it almost look like he’s protecting it. His shoulders are stiff, and by the way his chest is moving he’s doing some deep breathing. His big eyes look slightly dazed with his pupils dilated, making his eyes shimmer in the led screen light. His light blueish grey ripped jeans with a slightly too big for him cream sweater and his iconic platform converse.

How could one man look so cuddly and beautiful all in one. You fight back a coo, not letting yourself get drawn in further to his adorableness.

“Then,” You snatch his attention back to you. Clearly he hadn’t expected you to speak. “How about we use them? I’m free. We could pick a movie together?”

This was it. This was you throwing your lifeline. You wanted him to take it, to accept your invitation for just the two of you. One nonchalant question would show you which way you would fall. Farther in love with him, or down the hill to heartbreak.

You held your breath waiting for him to respond. You could see his thoughts swimming behind his eyes. As much as you were afraid, you couldn’t look away from him.

“I’m free…” He whispers, finally breaking your inner turmoil.

A heart stuttering, genuine smile breaks out on your face. Falling in it is.

“Lets’s go!”

--------

After managing to agree on which movie to watch you had mentioned needing the washroom. You hadn’t been to this particular theatre before and somehow Jisun seemed to know that too. He had walked you over to the washroom, letting you know he was going to go buy snacks at the concession. He didn’t ask you what you wanted before he hurriedly walked off.

You smiled as you watched him dash through the crowds that began to form. You quickly enter the washroom, not wanting to keep him waiting. You were buzzing with excitement, never in a million years did you actually think you’d be ‘alone’ with Jisung. Yes it was in public but still.

Upon exiting the washroom you head over to the concession. At first you don’t really see him, until you scan towards the straw dispenser counter. You watch as you see him cram a bag of your favourite candy into his pocket, he has two large popcorns and two drinks with him. Baffled you have no idea how he would have gotten them there. Imagining him adorably struggling another smile creeps onto your face. At this point there’s almost nothing he can do that isn’t endearing to you.

If this was all you could have, if this was as close as you could get to him… then you would be happy with just this. You were confident in yourself, there’s no doubt about that, but when it came to him you always seemed to falter. Maybe that wasn’t the best habit you’ve formed. Staring at Jisung made you unaware of your surroundings.

“What’s a lady like you doing here all alone?” A voice grates on your ear drums. Leaving an uncomfortable shudder steeled into your skin. You don’t bother to hide the annoyance on your face when you look away from him and to the new figure standing uncomfortably close to you.

“Not alone.” You voice void of emotions, two men leering over you from either side. You give them a once over. Sure, in most cases they could be considered attractive. Attractive as the next person, but just because they had a decent face didn’t mean you’d be interested.

“Here with friends then?” The other males voice was just as unpleasant.

A friend? You couldnt help the shy smile from forming on your lips when thinking of Jisung.

“Kind of.” Giggling you looked back up to where Jisung was. He was still there, however he looked almost uncomfortable, but it was hard to tell at this distance. His hand scratching the back of his head as he stared intently on all the items he bought.

“That guy?” One of them scoffed.

Your blood began to boil, searing at his implication.

“You wanna come with us? I promise it’ll be a better time than hanging with that guy.”

Now it was your turn to scoff. You laugh at their cockiness before waving them away stepping towards Jisung.

“Nobody beats my quokka.” You smile brightly over your shoulder. Leaving them confused and rejected behind you.

“Need help?” You chuckle upon reaching Jisung at the counter.

“Uh, yea…” He won’t look at you, but he has a solem look on his face. You’d seen it before, but you had never been able to place why it had appeared on him before.

“You ok?” Genuine concern swims in your words. He looks briefly over your shoulder before looking back at the popcorn.

“Those guys…” His voice comes out small, scared even.

“They were hitting on me, wanting me to go with them. I said no.” You shrug. You didn’t like lying and you absolutely wont lie to him.

“But they are attractive.” He mutters. Jeongin’s voice of jisung being insecure rings through your mind. It may not have been a big deal to you, but clearly it may be a big issue for Jisung.

“I’d rather be here with you.” You tell him straight forwardly, eyes locking with his trying to prove your sincerity.

“Let’s go, I want to see the trailers.” Picking up a popcorn and a drink you, nod at him to pick up the remaining. His plush lips finally forming a smile, finally he was smiling.

“Yea, ok.”

You make your way with him next to you into the theatre and pick your seats. He hands you the candy from his pocket and your straw. You watch him take a sip of his drink, a thought pops in your head.

“Oh and I was going to ask, what does a cupcake emoji mean?”

He chokes on his drink, hysterically coughing to clear his airways. In shock you rub his back to try to help.

All you hear is a “Uuuuuuh,” before the lights darken and he sinks into his seat. The trailers start rolling.

🧁🧁🧁🧁

“You dont understand!” Jisung whines dramatically, falling onto the couch at IN’s place. “They were buff and super handsome, definitely older. They must have been like the perfect catch! Someone worth being near her. BUT she said she would rather be there with me! WITH ME!”

Minho chuckles at him, shoving him off the couch onto the floor.

“Stay down there, it’s where you belong.”

Jisung had called an emergency meeting the day after his ‘date’ not date with you. Jeongin had suggested they meet at his place, he insisted Jisung bring him food as a thank you for bailing on the movie.

Propping his head on the couch seat, body draped on the floor Jisung continued his rambles.

“She’s just so beautiful and smart AND FUNNY! How can one person be so amazing?”

“Well if you actually would spend time alone with her you’d get to see even more of it.” Jeongin reprimends, setting drinks on his coffee table.

“I know, I know. I just get so in my head when she’s around. My thoughts are a cluster of all my feelings and my mouth doesnt react.” He flops back down fully to the floor.

--------

You quietly saunter towards the bedroom door. You had locked yourself out of your apartment and had been waiting for a call from your landlord when Jeongin had messaged you about coming over. You had worked the early morning shift this morning and you said you would agree if you could take a nap.

Upon hearing a commotion in the living room you begrudgingly rolled out of Jeongin’s bed to go take a look. You hear Jisungs voice before you see him.

“When she first joined our group she was like this amazingly beautiful being. Like a goddess. I couldn’t stop looking at her. She was just so pretty. Whether she was working or studying or singing karaoke or even goofing around with Changbin and Chan. I realized she was goofy, she was confident but funny. She always had a genuine smile when she enjoyed herself and when she was happy her eyes would sparkle.”

Your breath stuttered. His words sinking into every inch of your heart. His true feelings for you.

“But I felt like she forced herself to smile at me sometimes, you know? Maybe she knew I was always staring and she thought it was creepy. I felt so guilty, I tried to stop looking at her. Then there was that time she was helping us study and I realized just how smart she was and dedicated! When Seungmin broke his leg and couldnt go to class, she made him extra notes to help him. She didn't want him to fall behind because it would wreck his everage, she knew how hard he worked for his scholarship. She’s attentive, she’s caring, she’s….she’s… everything.”

His words to describe you were probably the most beautiful thing you had ever heard. No one had ever talked about you like that before.

“If I fall anymore in love with her, I’ll fall off the face of the earth.”

You peek around the corner that conceals you, Jeongin is already staring at your direction. Jisung laying on his back on the floor staring at the ceiling. Minho keeping an eye on his friends meltdown.

“You’d have to be able to tell her how you feel first.” Minho sighs, knowing his friend is too nervous around you.

“Or you can ask her right now.” Jeongin laughs, still looking at you. He planned this. This evil conniving wet bread planned to have you overhear.

“Huh?” Jisung sits up abruptly from his spot, eyes panicked as he looks to where Jeongin is watching.

He makes a gargled noise and falls back to the floor when you step out for them to see you.

“This is our que to leave you two alone. Minho why don’t you join me in my room to look at the new system I bought?” Jeongin stands, gesturing to the other.

“Sounds like a good idea. Now’s the time Ji, good luck.” He pats Jisung on the leg before walking away with the the youngest.

“Jisung..?” You try, coming closer to him. His eyes now shut, his face completely red. “Jisung, listen,”

You take one final deep breath before continuing. Steeling yourself for any reaction he might have.

“I can either say I didn’t hear anything and we can pretend this never happened or…”

You pause, siting next to him on the floor, legs crossed, finger stretching out to poke his soft cheek. Him whimpering in response.

“Or You can say that all again to my face and then we can discuss us.”

“U-us..?” He flings himself upright, almost knocking into you. You laugh at his excitement.

“Only if you want there to be, because I’d really like there to be.”

“Yes. Yes. YES.” He abruptly, but confidently takes your hand in his. Constantly repeating a mantra of yes’.

Maybe falling wasn’t too bad in the end, especially since you both landed together. On the Floor.

Eucalyptus

Hearing voices of the shelter workers coming down the hall, you quickly swallow down your mouthful of food. It didn’t matter how long you had been here, you still didn't particularly like any of them. It’s not as if they were bad people, they did their job well. But you could never really bring yourself to trust them. The humans you had encountered before being at the shelter were a waking nightmare. This small cage you were given was the only isolated solace you had.

You watched other hybrids come and go, many being adopted into ‘forever homes’ as the workers called it. You didn’t believe in their stories of warm caring homes, with owners that cherished their hybrids. You’d never seen it, so it couldn't be real.

Stalking over to perch behind one of your logs you waited for them to walk right past you. They always did. No one wanted a broken hybrid. A sweet melodic voice echoes in your ears as they approach. Your ears twitch with interest, ok maybe you were slightly curious about this person now.

“Our rodents are kept separately for their safety. However many of them can live in interspecies homes.” You could hear the attendees' voices now. You inwardly can’t stop yourself from rolling your eyes. You really didn’t enjoy this man. “I understand you are hoping for a smaller hybrid.”

“We're hoping for one we can bring to work with us, not just leave at home. There’s seven of us, and we each want to be able to care for our hybrid.” The sugary voice sings, your ears twitch again. You know you shouldn’t but you can't stop yourself. You peer up over the log down the hallway as two figures move in your direction.

“We have a few rabbits, mice, hedgehogs, cats, a couple of smaller dogs and-” The attendees’ head shakes.

“And?”

“Well we have another option….she’s a little more difficult? And not what you’d expect, we’ve had her here for a few years and she hasn’t shifted into her human form.” A loud sigh.

‘Oh please, next time you try to pick me up I'm peeing in your hand’ You huff angrily. ‘difficult-HA! I’ll show you difficult.’

In your mental retaliation you don’t realize they’ve stopped in front of your cage, until a figure leans down to take a look. Bright sparkling eyes stare at you through the bars of your cage. You unintentionally hold your breath.

‘pretty’ your brain supplies and you mentally slap yourself. ‘Not helping.’

“She’s so cute.” The pretty man states, large eyes full of excitement.

‘Flattery will get you nowhere…’ You want to glare at him, and you definitely try. But his complement made you blush deep under your fur. ‘Well maybe somewhere….Who told you you could be so pretty?!’

People never stopped to look at you. Once they knew you didn’t shift they’d breeze right by. This attention was new, scary yet thrilling.

“May I?” He gestures toward the cage door, you frown slightly and take a step back.

“If you want, she doesn’t bite, but she doesn’t like people either.” He remarks and unlocks the door.

The pretty one slowly opens the door, placing his hand on the floor of your cage facing up. And he waits, he leaves his hand there and watches you.

“I used to own sugar gliders.” His voice oozed with even more sweetness. “What’s her name?”

“She was found out in a snow storm, so we call her Snow.”

He just hums at the other male. Eyes never leave yours, as you stare at his hand and then glance to his eyes then back at his hand.

“Come here Snow. Let’s meet each other.”

‘Try anything and I’ll bite you…ok maybe I won't, but I’ll run away and make this very hard for you SIR.’ Glaring at the man in daring to hold his hand into your cage. You sniff the air, taking in the new scent, lavender and chamomile. Sensing nothing, only warm eyes watching you, you cautiously take a step closer. The scent is a little stronger now, you take another step and another then another.

Surprisingly your instincts aren’t telling you to run. Fight or flight was something you were accustomed too. Being the type of hybrid you are, it was embedded into your core. You seemingly slope yourself over to his hand giving it one more sniff before stepping onto it. You look up at him, as he slowly pulls his hand out of the cage and up to his face.

He coos at you. You almost keen under his gaze, his smile breaking out wider making him look even more gentle. You watch intently as he brings his other hand up, finger pointed he stops inches from your head.

“Does she like being pet?” He asks, realizing too soon that it might scare you.

The attendee shrugs behind him, “Honestly I’m not sure, no ones been able to hold her like that.”

“Is it ok?” The genuine concern in his voice makes your head tilt. Was he really asking you for permission? Who the heck is this guy? He brings his long crooked finger closer to you, but still doesn't make contact.

Whether it was your instincts or your want to trust him, you don’t give yourself a moment to think. Your eyes close and you lean up, letting your head touch his digit. You hear him exhale deeply, normally you would have jumped at the sudden noise, but feeling his touch your mind instantly relaxed. He lets you rub your head on him, moving yourself to let you scratch behind your ears.

He chuckles lightly, “Hello Snow, my name's Jin. Would you like to come home with me?”

You halt in your hyperfixation on his hand to look at him. ‘You are a weird one pretty Jin’

How come he keeps asking you? What was wrong with this man? You never had a choice, you were a pet. Pets don't have choices, choices were made for you whether you liked them or not.

“I do have to warn you, there are 6 other people that I live with. They’ll want to also shower you with love and attention. Do you think you could handle that?”

One was hard enough to please, but seven? Seven people to disappoint, to not be enough for, to show how broken you truly were. But he knew you couldn’t shift, he called you cute, and he asked you if you were ok with things. You liked his touch, six more people like him? That sounded too good to be true, could you really trust him after everything you’d been through?

That you weren’t sure, but hell- you wanted to. Every fiber of your being wanted to stay with this man. Nothing in your life had given you the comfort that this man's hand did. Nothing.

‘What do you have to lose, Y/N? Another disappointment won’t kill us. We’ll just end up back here, there could be worse.’ You try to coax yourself into making a decision, leap back into your cage or take a step with him.

You brace yourself and take a step onto the sleeve of his sweater. You don’t hesitate anymore as you climb up his arm onto his broad shoulder, as you peer over it you see there's a hood on his back. You make a break for it, jumping into it you’re enclosed in his warmth and scent. Snuggle into it, curling into a ball letting out a sigh of content.

“I’ll take that as a yes” You feel his back vibrate as he speaks. The attendees' words are muffled in your comfort. You let yourself slip a little too far as a cold hand breaches your new found nest and rips you out.

You let out a raspy gargled bark of annoyance as you can instantly tell it's no longer Jin handling you. Your legs find the bark of your log again, glancing up you can feel the panic rising. Did he change his mind? The door closes and Pretty bends down to look at you again.

“Don’t worry Snow, I’ll be back to take you home ok? Be good till then, I promise I’ll come back soon.”

You want to trust his words even more now, you give him a slight nod before climbing up into your makeshift nest. Deciding to find comfort in sleep, fear gripping at you as you hope he does indeed come back for you. Paperwork needs to be done, he probably has to get his home ready for you, so many things go on before you can leave with him. This isn’t the first time, but this is the first time you actually felt terrified of him walking away and never coming back.

You hear them leave the hallway, door clicking behind them as you hear the attendee mention paperwork and the adoption fee. You stone your emotions. You won’t let yourself be used again.

‘We won’t be hurt this time…not again…not every time.’ And you fall asleep as you chant to yourself over and over and over again.

****

“-And that’s all I know.” Jin's monolog finally comes to an end, hands fiddling with the pen in his lap. “They gave me a picture of her and the paperwork. Regardless at this point, I’ve promised her I’m going back for her, so it’ll be up to you guys if you are also going to sign the adoption forms or if it’ll just be me.”

He places your photo and the forms on the table for them to take a look. Hesitant hands reach for the picture, features turning soft before handing it down the table for the rest.

“And you’re sure about this Jin?” Namjoon questions as the photo is handed to him.

“100%. She doesn’t trust easily and she definitely has some social issues, but there’s something there.” He doesn't know how to fully explain himself. None of them had owned a hybrid before, all having very different views on the idea of owning another being like this. Jin himself was most against it, hybrids were people too. If only half, but still human, it didn’t mean they didn’t deserve love and a home either. However, talking to some of the staff back at Hybe and their hybrids they could all see what good they could do for a hybrid of their own. Taking in one from the shelter nearby was something they all agreed on, Jin opting to take charge and stomaching a walk through and meeting the adoptees. The choice to only take on one hybrid was also unanimous, as they were all separately busy at times, but mostly they were together.

They created a checklist of what they would like in their new family member. Smaller in stature, so they could bring them everywhere. Comfortable being in their animal form, making it easier to bring them to locations or the studios. Self entertained, if they had to leave them at home on their own they wouldn’t suffer from the seperation, human or animal. They didn’t particularly care about animal species or male vs female. They trusted Jin because he was the one who had the most to say about it.

“There was just a connection. I felt it. I can’t explain it.” He sighed, he wants them to take a chance on you. He needs them to.

Namjoon eyes the adoption forms on the table, spying Jin's signature already along the dotted line. He reaches for it, bringing it closer to read through it. Jin holds his breath, as the other members watch Namjoon’s face waiting to hear his verdict.

“Alright.” Namjoon finally breaks the silence. “Do you have a pen?”

Jin’s cheeks hurt from the smile that appears on his face, he gives an airy chuckle before handing over the pen to his leader.

He watched the other members read over it- look back at your picture and sign. This was it, he was going back to get you.

****

It had been a few days since Pretty had promised you he would come back. At this point your hope was slowly dwindling. You know you shouldn't hold onto this hope, you shouldn't have let it grow in the first place. You knew better. But looking in his eyes, hearing his voice, hope started to grow before you even realized it.

You had become angry at yourself for hoping. By the second day you had refused to eat. One part punishing yourself, another part being you just couldn’t find it in you. You were just exhausted from wishing for more. This cage was safe at least, you should be thankful for it.

Every time a worker switched out your untouched food they would all say the same thing. ‘C’mon Snow, he’ll be back for you’, ‘It’ll be ok, he really liked you’, ‘don’t give up yet, Snow. You have to be feeling ok when he comes to get you’. You couldn’t bring yourself to believe them…Not anymore. Not after everything.

So you spent the days sleeping away your funk. You’d feel better eventually. And you did. By the 5th day after Pretty’s visit you had eaten your breakfast and the surprise sugar cane stick they had given you. You had managed to precariously climb to the top of your exercise wheel, scaling the branches and using your hammock as leverage, trying your best to balance on the outside of it.

You heard footsteps come down the long hallway, deciding to ignore it. You almost fumble when you hear someone call your name.

“Snow~”

The cage door opens abruptly, but you hold your ground.

“Where are you? Are you hiding from me again?”

Trying your best not to move, undeciding if you want to surprise attack or indeed continue your long standing game of hide and seek with this particular employee.

Before you can decide, your hiding spot has already been discovered.

“There you are!” A hand reaches into the cage. You can’t dive away from it while balancing on this stupid thing. All you can do is bark angrily as it encircles around you, lifting you into the air. “C’mon Spunky. You have a date with destiny.”

‘This lady has officially lost it.’ You struggle against the cold grip around you, gargling at her the whole walk to the main vets room. She ignores your displays, she’s too used to your dramatics now. The main room is harsh and white, smelling strongly of whatever sterilizer they use. On the steel table is a cat carrier, with a smell you can't place. You begin to struggle against her. ‘LADY ARE YOU FEEDING ME TO A CAT!? What the hell kind of injustice is this!!’

One handedly she opens the carrier door. Peering through her fingers, it's empty. Except for a blanket and a stuffed toy and a sugarcane stick. Your whole body goes tense. Not a cat…then what's that smell? You’ve smelt it before but there’s something off about it. Like it’s mixed with something. Sweet, acidic, musty, earthy, floral, fruity and minty. Weird, where is it coming from?

She plops you down on the blanket, next to the toy. Immediately all the smells hit you. It’s coming from both the blanket and toy.

“It’ll be ok girl.”

‘Will it? So far everything has been all ass-backwards, what is happening?’ You scowl at the two items, but eye up the stick. She gently locks the door behind you.

“I hope you have a great time and enjoy yourself.”

‘I would if you would tell me what the hell is happening? Where am I going? Am I moving to another shelter? When you guys moved that bearded dragon out you did the same thing’ That would make sense, this isn't usual protocol for adopted hybrids, so many you were being moved to a permanent shelter.

‘Honestly if I knew I was leaving I would have bitten at least 2 of you’ You grumble, taking the stick between your teeth you begin to pull it further onto the blanket towards the toy. If these smells were from the new place, it's better to get used to them now rather than let them smack you in the lungs when you get there.

“There you go girl, just relax. I’ll be back soon to get you.” She explains as she walks back out of the room. You let out a huff as you begin munching on the stick. Sugar cane wasn’t your favourite, but it was still better than most snacks they tried to give you.

Still, there was something about these smells. Something familiar, but with the other smells mixing with it it made it impossible to differentiate.

With a mouth full of snacks you hear the door open again, expecting the same female voice again.

“Snow?” The sweet voice resonates in your ears. Hyperfixation and instinct taking over, you dart over to the carrier door to be able to look out.

The male figure comes around to you, smile still as dazzling as all those days ago.

‘Pretty!’ You let out an excited chirp. He’s here. He came back!

“I’m sorry it took so long for me to come back, but I wanted to pick you up personally.” Jin cooed at you. You were still as cute as he remembered. He couldn't express to his members that he already missed you. Not even 30 minutes with you and he was smitten. Unable to let anyone else retrieve you, working even harder to finish his project, those 5 days felt like torture to him.

Before he can say anything else another person enters the room. The lead vet comes in, you had deemed him the nicest. You didn’t exactly fight him when he checked on you, but you would hiss occasionally to warn him if you didn’t like something. He would stop if you told him to, which made him the nicest. Plus he would sneak you some of your favourite snacks. The one the attendees didn’t.

You start chirping repeatedly at him ‘Pretty came back! Pretty came back!’

“Someone’s excited.” He laughs. “But I can’t tell which one of you is more so.”

Jin lets out a soft airy chuckle, apparently he wasn't hiding his very well.

“Normally I would just tell you to call the shelter if you have any issue or questions, however. I have a soft spot for our Snow, she’s a feisty one, but I’ve been hoping someone would give her the family she deserves. So here is my personal number.” He hands over a business card with pen scribbled on the back. “You can call me anytime. Or text me. Either way I’ll try to answer as soon as possible. Make sure all of you have it ok?”

“Of course! Thank you so much for this.” Jin places the card into the envelope you didn't notice he was carrying until this moment. “Can I take her home now?”

“Absolutely.”

“Let's go home Snow.” You chirp at him again to signal you're ready. He grabs the handle of the carrier and lifts it off the table.

****

To say you were nervous would be putting it mildly. You started to tremble not even 5 minutes in, Jin sitting in the back with you. He noticed almost instantly, his voice soft and soothing. What really surprised you was when he opened the carrier door, offering to hold you for the rest of the drive. You quickly opted for his warmth rather than let yourself dwell on your nerves. Snuggling into his lap, his hands petting you in a gentle rhythm. The only time anxiety began to rise back in you was when he let you know that you had arrived. Instead of letting him usher you back into the carrier you scrambled into his hoodie pocket.

Jin hesitates before going into their suite. He was worried about how you were going to handle having 6 new people. He glances down at you peeking out from his pocket.

“Ready?” His smile still held so much hope. “Take your time ok? Everything will be ok.”

You give him a nervous chirp in response before stealing yourself. You can smell the mix of scents seeping through the door. The same smells as in the carrier, it must have been from all of them. Them hoping to make you comfortable before coming here. You melt a little at the thought. None of them have an unpleasant smell, in all actuality they smelt really good, especially one scent that piques your instincts. Curiosity starts to make you feel antsy as he finally opens the door and walks in.

The members are scattered around the living room. Tension is thick in the air, as well as worry making their scents burn the back of your throat.

“Hey guys, we’re home.” Jin places the carrier on the table, you can see the members trying to not surround it, but the excitement that now shifts in the room is almost contagious. You don’t know why you do it, your instincts taking over.

You chirp at them. Announcing that you're not in the carrier, but on Jin's person.

“What?” Six heads snap to the oldest.

He clears his throat before bringing his hand to you, waiting for you, you climb aboard.

“Everyone, this is Snow. Snow, this is Jimin, Namjoon, Taeyhung, Hoseok, Jungkook and Yoongi.” He points to each person as he says their name.

Are these many prettys allowed to be together? They’re all pretty, each one different from the next nut definitely still pretty.

Some wave shyly and others give a quiet hi. You take in each of them, analyzing their scents and demeanours out of habit. Head tilting to match the voices of hellos to the person. The deep voice coming from the fluffy warm one. Sturdy modulated voice from the tall big one. And the softly spoken sing song voice from the ball of energy. The smaller bright soft one, the concerned confident one and the wholesome wided eyed sparkly one waving to you.

‘They don’t seem all that bad.’ You smile to yourself. The one Jin aid was Jimin steps towards you, in an attempt to interact with you more. However you aren’t ready for that just yet, you take a step back.

“I’m sorry.” Jimin quickly apologizes, smile faltering. Oh, his voice is sweet, angelic even. You shake yourself out of thought to hear him speak. “Would it be better if we give you time to get used to the place first?”

You give him a soft hopeful chirp in response and his smile is immediately back on his face. You stomp your feet excitedly at his smile, he was cute when he smiled, They all were.

“I think it would be best if she sticks with me for now, and when she feels ready she can interact first?” Jin chuckled at your display. You chirped again and nodded your head. You could do that.

“Yea, we can do that. When you’re ready you can come to us Snow.” The sturdy voice comes out again.

‘Namjoon. His name is Namjoon. I can do this.’

And that’s how most of your days went, huddled into Jin. Clinging to him. Leaving the apartment meant he’d make sure to wear things with either hoods or large pockets for you to stay in. The others would talk to you or try to coax you out with food but you stayed with Jin. You wanted to try with them, like you had with Jin. But your insecurities would always make you falter in accepting them.

How did seven pretty men want you? You were so broken, they didn’t even know your story. If they knew they would probably take you back right away. But they didn’t know, how could they know? Unless you told them and you knew you wouldn’t so why couldn't you take that step. Cross the bridge they were waiting so patiently on the other side of you for.

Maybe it could finally be that day.

****

All you wanted to do was nap, you needed to sleep. How could one man be so loud in the middle of the day you would never know.

You slink out of the cracked door, slowly making your way down the hallway to the living room. You can hear the other members around the suite. The youngests were together in what smelt like Hoseok and Jimins room. You weren’t sure where Namjoon was, but you can hear Yoongi talking to himself from the dining table. Walking around the corner you find him surrounded by his laptop, notepads, books and other things you didn’t bother to take in. You had already found your focus.

You could hear faint deep breathing coming from the couch. Fixating on that you shuffle quietly over to it, climbing up the armrest that Yoongi couldn't see. Rounding over it you see Hoseok asleep on his back, arms behind his head, blanket half on him, tv down low. Gingerly you scuttle to him, sniffing the air around him, your mind relaxing.

Today can be the day.

‘Alright sunshine, let’s see how this goes.’ You give yourself one final mental push and climb onto his chest. His deep breathing causes his chest to rise and fall in an almost transic rhythm. Your limbs have stopped shaking enough for you to tuck them under your body along with your tail, relaxing into a ball as you let your mind drift to sleep.

With the smell of lemons and honey surrounding you.

****

“Has anyone seen Snow?” Jin questions as he comes out of his room, into the kitchen area.

“Not since you were last out here. She didn’t stay with you?” Yoongi remarks from the table.

“I was playing games, I think I was a little too loud for her.” He shrugs, it’s not that he’s overly worried where you got to. You wouldn’t have gone far.

He peers around the living room looking for your tiny figure when he sees a napping Hoseok on the couch. He turns to walk back out when he hears the faint sound of your purring. His eyes sparkle as he takes in your spot, smile hurting his cheeks instantly. He wants to cheer, to yell out his excitement. It was finally happening.

Your tiny sleeping body curled up on Hoseok's chest.

When Hoseok finally awoke he felt a light warm patch on his chest. Rubbing his face he looked down to where you were. At first he was shocked, then excited and then terrified to move. He didn’t want you to run from him when you woke up. He wanted you to stay with him, he wanted what Jin had with you.

Eventually your slumber came to an end, body twitching awake you shifted into a stretch. Yawning, you glanced up, eyes connecting with Hoseok’s. You clamber to your feet, and chirp sleepily at him.

‘You look like you’ve seen a ghost Sunshine’

Tottering up his body you bump your head against his chin, in doing so you feel him relax. His scent returned to normal. He let out an airy chuckle before reaching up and scratching you behind your ear. And his wishes were answered when you purred at him.

****

Now that you had gotten over your first hurdle with Hoseok you used every opportunity to nap on him when he was home. Still choosing to sleep in Jin's room in the carrier based on your need for that familiar comfort. But if you were sleepy and Hoseok was home, you’d find him one way or another.

It wasn’t until a couple days later that you noticed a pair of eyes watching you. A soft longing type linger, that you could physically feel on you. Realizing who it came from was easy, it especially happened when you were getting comfy on Hoseok or riding on Jin. Wanting to see that smile again you made a plan.

Jin was in the kitchen getting you some food when you began barking your way down the hallway. Coming to the island, you knew you could climb it. They knew you could climb it. However, today was a new day and this new day meant you didn’t want to climb it.

Jimin was sitting on one of the island bar stools eating his own bowl of food. So Instead of scaling the side like normal you teetered over to him. Swiping your tail over his foot and yapping at him to get his attention.

‘Sparkles! Sparkles! Help me!’

He peeks down the chair leg to you circling him on the stool.

“What’s wrong, Snow? Are you ok?” The concern in his voice makes you worry. Instinctively he gets down on the floor to take a better look at you. Hand outstretching before he has a moment to rethink his actions.

You immediately hop onto his hand, you weren’t going to allow the perfect opportunity to slip by. He jumps a little at how unexpected your reaction is. He stands up cautiously, you in his hand he stares at Jin who has just turned around to see what the commotion was about.

Jin is used to your mischief by now. They weren’t lying when they said you were feisty, and it only made him that more amused with you.

“Looks like you’re one of us now Jimin.” He smirks as Jimin whips his attention back to you as you jump off his hand and glide to the island. Jimin plops back down on his chair, mind still in shock. The concern starts to build again, you march over to him and chirp. It’s enough to break whatever spell he’s under.

“Thank you.” Is all he can manage.

‘You’re welcome Sparkles.’

****

It had just been over a week now since you came to live with the boys. You were still only comfortable with the three members, but you had spent the last day psyching yourself up to approach one of them. You just hadn't decided who yet.

You clambered out of your carrier, gliding down from the cabinet it was perched on, you can hear a door open and feet padding down the hallway. You scoot out to see who it is. A slightly sleepy Taehyung ambles away from you. You quickly pick up the pace to follow behind him, your little legs working overtime to catch up. He makes a turn into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. You pick your hiding spot, and wait for him to come back out. As he does you begin to follow him again.

“Looks like you have a new friend” Yoongi remarks from the kitchen, following you with his eyes.

Taehyung freezes, turning to look down behind him, pure confusion etched on his face. That is until he spots your tininess, a huge smile breaks on his face.

“Good morning Snow” His groggy deep voice begins to soothe you, but you shake yourself out of it by running up to him leaping up onto his pants halfway up his calf and scampering up him. He doesn’t dare to do anything, he knows what this means. It’s finally his turn.

Crawling into his chest shirt pocket you purr at him, his smell of mint and chocolate enveloping you. His smile turns his sharp mature features into ones of childlike excitement.

He turns around to continue on his route “You’re coming with me today.” Your heart warms.

‘Let’s go!’

****

After the first few steps the other became easier and easier.

A couple days after that you find Namjoon near a window in a wicker chair reading a book. Sun beaming down through the glass illuminating his skin, almost making him glow. Unknowingly to him you jump onto the large window sill, soaking up the sun yourself as you settle down, focusing all of your might into your gaze. Attempting to will him into noticing you. You take in his gentle yet strong features, the way his hands hold his book like its something fragile and precious. He gives his members the same look, there’s something about him that you love to just sit and watch. Eventually he does notice you, muffling a chuckle to himself before extending his hand out to pet you. Purring comfortably you curl up in the sun and let yourself be lulled to sleep with the smell of home and touch of home.

At this point they all felt comfortable taking you out of the suite more and more. They had been going through some rehearsals in one of the dance studios. Unfortunately for you Jin had taken his sweater off and your snug little nest wasn’t as nice anymore, with it being on the ground. The only one left was Yoongi and thankfully they weren’t working on choreography, so you hitched a ride off Jin and as soon as he got close enough you lept off his shoulder aiming for Yoongi’s. The shorter male saw your line of sight as your posture changed for you to glide, so he halted mid-step to allow himself to be a safer place to land, papers in hand.

You give him a little chirp and climb directly into his hood, into the nest of amber and vanilla. He doesn’t say anything but he tries to hide a shy smile from the others as he continues reading over his sheets, continuing his pacing.

You couldn’t seem to find a moment to reach out to Jungkook, the shyest of them all gave you the most space. Which was starting to irritate you. So out of frustration one day while he had his door shut, you could hear him in there. You started barking as loud as you could from outside, occasionally scratching at it to emphasize your displeasure. Eventually he opened it and you marched right in, climbing up onto his bed and curling up. He watched with silent bewilderment, but you refused to acknowledge his uncertainty letting him continue on his computer, with you purring away in the background.

****

And that’s how it started. Everyday you went with at least one of them to work. Meeting coworkers and other hybrid pets alike. All were excited to meet you, hearing so much about you from all the members, your confidence started to take off. Along with your confidence the fire that was once inside of you began to spark again.

‘Not my fault you don’t use that freakishly big head of yours.’ You grumble, sneering at the man profusely apologizing to Jimin. The unknown man had run right into Jimin, almost completely knocking him over.

The assailant runs away with his head down.

“Pffft” The coworker's hybrid tries to contain his laughter, until he’s out of earshot.

‘Stupid big head. Come near my Jiminie again and I’ll chew holes into your shoes.’ Continuing to mumble to yourself threats upon the males discomfort.

“What's so funny?” Doyun asks.

“Your glider-” He gestures to you on Jimin's shoulder. Struggling to speak between laughter. “She’s a spunky one.”

Jimin stares at him confused, unknowing to him that the other hybrid heard you. You were projected very loudly, you glare at him as Jimin walks away. The hybrid raises his hands up in surrender to you, smiling and waving goodbye.

Your protective nature was showing, one you didn’t think you had anymore. Becoming so aloof, detached and distant from the world was your way of being safe. All the past pain almost felt like a lie. And this warmth, comfort and love being your new truth, one you could rely on. For once life felt worth existing in. Happiness was finally worse, no more worrying……

****

But you spoke too soon.

The boys had taken you to see the vet from the shelter numerous times recently. This uncomfortable dull pain in your stomach makes it impossible for you to want to eat. Only waking for a few hours everyday, spending most of your time in your carrier, not wanting to come out.

Because of this they had to stop taking you with them. You spent 24/7 in the suite, as per the vets orders. Minimal contact with others until they could find out exactly what was happening to you.

The boys had gone out for a long day of work, all saying their farewell assuring you they’ll be back as soon as they can. But they had a 10 hour shoot today, they didn’t want to go but they knew they couldn’t stay. So ample food and water was left out for you, just outside the carrier so you wouldn't have to go far and with that they left.

As soon as they left something felt off. The pain was still there but something mentally felt wrong. Forcing yourself to your feet you fumble your way down and out of Jin's room, finding yourself now in Namjoons room. Sun beaming onto his bed through the curtain crack you struggle to climb up. Your breath coming out short, feeling like it's being cut off. You push past the panic and continue ascending. Feeling the warmth from the sun through your fur, you let your body spread out on its back instead of going into your natural comfort ball.

Dull throbbing pain, your instincts screaming incoherent words at you and your mess of emotions spiral into dizzying lights behind your eyes as you fall unconscious.

****

Your eyes gently flutter open, your mind still warm from the dreams of sunlight. The pain in your body is still there but it feels different somehow but you can't place it. Without dwelling on it too much you roll over onto your stomach, however what you weren’t expecting was to completely roll off the bed.

You let out an audible screech when you collide with the hardwood. Unthinking you let out a pained croaky groan and freeze.

Did you just make that noise? How would you-? IS THAT A HAND?

Springing to your feet, you're hit with a headrush, eyes flying shut. Your hand automatically shoots up to cradle your head, eyes peeling open you can see it. That’s definitely a hand…your hand. It’s almost too good to be true, you're afraid to look down but you still manage to.

“I have 2 legs! I have a body!” You chirp happily, voice coming out slightly harsh from it not being used in years. “I am human! Im-I’m….naked. I am very naked…uhhh…clothes! I need clothes.”

Stumbling on your new shaky legs like a newborn calf you waddle over to namjoons wardrobe. Struggling to open the door, you use your whole body against it, failing to open it. Catching yourself before you almost tumble to the floor.

“Wooow. Ok let's not fall” You chuckle to yourself. Looking around the room you notice a white shirt laid over a chair, stumbling slightly over it you grab it and put it over your head. It's definitely too big for you. A large white t-shirt with some weird pattern on the front. Sleeves covering you to your elbows and length down to your mid thighs. Lifting the collar to your face you inhale deeply Namjoons scent filling your mind, letting out a content sigh, dropping the fabric.

“Right, good enough.” Before you can make a move you hear your stomach grumble loudly.

“Really? Now you're hungry, after worrying everyone NOW you want food” You glare angrily at your stomach, it growling at you in return. “Fine!”

Carefully you make your way out of namjoons room, using whatever furniture and the walls as support. Passing each of the members feeling like something wasn't right, but letting yourself believe it was because you were hungry.

By the time you make it to the kitchen you have full control of your legs, but now find yourself too tired, and the pain is turning into a slow burn, to make anything.

“Please have something made already” You give a silent prayer before opening the fridge. Staring you right in the face is a take out container of leftovers. “Thank you boys!”

Pulling it out, you place it in the microwave to warm it up as quickly as possible. Only letting yourself have a quick moment to try to remember who it was. Being unable to, you chose to give up as the microwave chimes. You carefully take it to the couch with chopsticks in hand. You no longer hesitate to start devouring the food.

Half way through your meal, your body begins to ache again. DIfferent to how it was in animal form. There's an undeniable pain in your senses. Placing the food down on the coffee table.

“What the-Nnnnnn.” A sharp burning hits your body. Your glider instincts are muffled by your prominent human side. As muffled as they are you can still feel them, letting yourself sink into them. Standing abruptly and running to the members rooms, grabbing items from each, sprinting back to the couch. You dump everything onto the couch. Then beginning to place each item meticulously into their perfect spot.

Hoseok's pillow on one side of the couch. Jins RJ stuffy, he keeps on his bed, on the pillow. Yoongi’s comforter over the couch, allowing space near the pillow for you to climb in. Sitting down, slipping your feet into a pair of Jimin's long fuzzy socks. Sliding one leg at a time into Jungkook's grey sweatpants. Finally circling a brown cardigan of Taes around your shoulders, you lay down, pulling the blanket over you, RJ in your arms.

Surrounded by their scents you finally relax. The pain in your senses is now gone, but now replaced by longing to see and hear them. You reach for the remote for the tv, pressing on youtube and a mix playlist of videos of them. Their voices echoing in the once silent room as you fall back asleep.

****

“What the hell?!”

The boys were exhausted coming back, you were on their minds all day. They couldn’t stop worrying about you, not knowing if you were ok or if something happened to you. As silly as it was they agreed to make a stop on the way home to pick up a cell phone for you. You could at least text them since you still weren’t able to shift. It gave them all a sense of comfort knowing they could keep in contact in some way.

Coming home later than planned, they didn't account for finding their stuff all piled onto the couch, tv on and leftovers half eaten. If they weren’t in their right minds they’d think someone broke in. But who would break in just to do this?

Yoongi creeps up to the couch, reaching out to his comforter he can hear faint purring coming from the mound.

“No way-” He whispers just loud enough for them to hear and pulls it down just far enough to expose the pillow with your tiny furry body curled up on Hoseok's pillow.

Someone in the room releases a loud gasp causing you to stir. Eyes opening, blinking multiple times to fight the fog. Pain back to a dull ache you look up and see seven wide, shocked pairs of eyes on you. For a moment you're confused why they would look at you like that, then you remember.

You had been human! You had shifted! 6 years! For the first time in 6 years you had shifted!

Jumping to your feet you are babbling at them excitedly, hopping up and down unable to contain yourself.

“Snow, were you human?” Jin asks in disbelief, you nod at him.

“That's so amazing! You-” Jimin cheers.

“How did you do it?” Taehyung cuts Jimin off from continuing. You let out a huff, head shaking.

You honestly don’t know. One minute you were asleep then the next POOF human.

“You don't know?”

Again, you shake your head. Dejection settles in, annoyed at yourself for being too excited in the moment and not thinking about it properly.

“It’s ok, I’m sure it’ll happen again.” Hoseok tries to cheer you up, scratching your chin as you finally stop bouncing.

“We picked this up for you today,” Yoongi places the phone down in front of you. “Just in case you need to contact us for anything. And we mean anything.”

You want to cry. What did you do to deserve these men? Did it make all the pain worth it? No, nothing could make that pain worth it. However, they helped faze out those memories. You nod your head in thank you. These kind beautiful men were everything.

For the next week, everytime you became human you’d make a note of what you were doing when it happened, what the pain was like before the shift, what your thoughts were, anything that might be helpful. When the boys would come home they’d all go over it too.

Sometimes it would happen for only a few minutes, sometimes a few hours, once or twice a day. You felt useless, how could you not figure this out. Why and how were you shifting, this infuriating broken puzzles sharp edges were cutting deeper in your mind. 6 years of only being a sugar glider, what made now so different? You’ve had ‘homes’ before and you had the shelter, so what was causing this.

The only differences were; you felt safe and comfortable. You had food and clean water. People that loved you. People you loved. Warm rooms to choose where you wanted to nest. Countless places to climb and glide from. And the touch of each of the seven men that cared about you.

And that’s when it hit you……. Or the scent did.

****

“Namjoon!” Your voice breaks, you’re struggling to catch a deep breath. Your hands tremble slightly as the grip on the phone begins to tighten.

“Hello?” He asks cautiously.

“Namjoon, I know this is going to be hard to believe but it's me! Snow.”

“Snow? You’re human again-?”

“Yes and I think I know why. Are you with the others right now?”

“No, I stepped out for a minute.”

“Good. I need to tell you, I just realized I’m going into a pre-heat, but as a human..”

“Really? Why now?”

“One of your scents is triggering it, it’s fogging my mind Namjoon. Everytime I become human my body feels like it's on fire. I can’t breathe here” You don’t want to be annoying, or for them to think that you’re too much to take care of. You finally had a home, a safe home. You couldn't risk losing it by being demanding now that you could become human again.

“I’ll call the shelter after work. I remember reading something about safe heat rooms in the adoption papers. Are you sure you don’t want a partner to help you through it? They also had those as an option.” You know he’s being thoughtful, thinking of your best interest.

You stifle a whimper, choking back a silent sob. The words come out small as you regain your composure. “I don’t want to spend it with anyone else….”

“It’ll be ok Snow.” Thankfully his voice begins sending relief washing through you. “But…. Can I ask which one of us?”

“I’m sorry Namjoon, I really don’t want to say.”

“You know we would help you if you asked. We all love you.”

“I know you all care for me as your pet, I just don’t want anyone to feel bad. This isn’t anyone's fault, just my stupid hybrid instincts.” You grumble. “Maybe next time we can look into a heat partner?”

The words taste like vinegar, the thought of anyone else’s smell making you instantly feel nauseated. But you need to reassure him that you are still an easy pet to care for, even now. Even when you’re not a tiny sugar glider that only cares about sweets and sleeping in their hooded sweaters. Making things harder for them, meant them rethinking things. Things like if they really wanted to keep you or if they’d return you.

“Snow. You don’t have to force yourself. You said it yourself, if it’s one of our scents triggering you-”

“I’ll be fine. I just have to get used to being human again.” You laugh, in hopes of lightening the mood. “Maybe soon I’ll get a handle on it and finally be able to meet you all properly.”

He chuckles into the receiver. As perceptive as he is, he can already hear the twinge in your voice. He makes his way back into the studio where the others are.

“Well I can assure you that we’d all love to meet you in your human form. You’ve given the house warmth again.”

Eyes peer at him from around the room, his conversation catching intrigue.

“Thanks Joonie!” The cutesy nickname bubbling out of your mouth, before you can stop it. Your feet still, smile falling as you cover your mouth in panic. “Namjoon, I mean. I-I’m sorry.”

“You can call me Joonie. It’s ok.” He reassures you, his small soft smile finds its way to his lips unseen by you but very seen by his members.

However reassuring his voice sounds, you're still unsure how to take it. Your silence stretches on, unable to come up with a decent reply.

“Do you think you’ll still be human when we get home?” He changes the subject, offering you a way out. Now everyone was hyper aware of his conversation. Abandoning everything they’re doing, stares ever so blatant.

“I’m not sure. I still haven’t figured out how in these moments I’m changing. I’m not doing anything different either way. I’ll try to think about it more today.” You hum, now absentmindedly.

“Ok, we’ll try not to be late today.”

“Ok. I’ll see you when you get back.” You start chewing on your bottom lip. What if you can’t be human around them? Would they assume you were lying to them, only choosing to be a glider around them. What if they thought you were too useless. Too broken. Weak?

“I’ll see you tonight. And Snow, it’s ok whatever version of you it is.”

He states softly and hangs up. You’re left stunned. Did he mean that? Is it really ok? You really hoped it was because you would be heartbroken if you had to leave them.

****

“Snow?” Jimin bounced excitedly in his chair. “You were talking to Snow? She’s human?”

“Yes, at least for now. She says she still doesn't know what is changing her. But she did let me know something, and I think we all need to talk about it.” He slides a rolling chair towards the couch, taking a seat and gesturing for the others to join him. They all share a worried glance but follow their leader's request.

“Is she ok?” Jin

“Yes and no. We need to call the shelter and ask them if they have a heat room available. Snow’s going into pre-heat, as a human. Which we all know she hasn’t done in a long time.” Namjoon explains slowly, analyzing each reaction. “I think the sooner the better because she’s struggling at home. Apparently one of our scents is triggering it.”

“One of our scents?” Yoongi questions. “Did she say which one?”

“No, she said she doesn’t want any of us to know. She doesn’t want whoever it is to feel bad. And she asked not to have a heat partner. She tried to tell me she could have one for the next time, but she didn’t sound convincing when she mentioned it. From what I’ve been reading, if she’s refusing purely based on one of our scents, then her animal base instincts are signifying one of us as her mate.” He’s nodding slowly, his mind thinking of each outcome to this situation. “Honestly I think the worst part is, she sounds like she’s blaming herself.”

Thoughtful heavy silence hangs in the room. Their poor Snow, the pain she must be going through and she’s thinking of them.

“This isn’t her fault.” Taehyung’s deep voice resonated in the room. They all silently agree, there’s no way this is your fault. It could never be.
