a/n - read the full request here - this was supposed to be posted a couple days after I got the request, but my headaches decided to come back, so here we are 2 weeks later lol. I hope you enjoy :)

âSweetheart, you canât just grab everything you see and throw it into the basket,â Benny sighs as he looks down at his daughter.
Little Violet was standing on her tippy toes trying to put a bag of chips inside the basket Benny was holding, but she froze at the sound of Bennyâs voice. She drops her hands to her sides before pouting up at Benny.Â
âDonât give me that look. Mommy gave us a list and told us to only buy what we need. We donât wanna make mommy upset do we?â Benny gives Violet a look, causing her to stomp back down the aisle to put the chip bag on the shelf.Â
Benny held in his laugh because he knew it would only upset Violet more.Â
Before you left for work that morning, you had looked through the pantry to see what you needed to buy from the store on your way home. The grocery store was right next to the cosmetics store where you worked, so you didnât mind stopping by after.
Benny thought it would be a good idea to get some fresh air with Violet, so he offered to go shopping for you â this way, he could kill two birds with one stone and also give you a ride home.Â
You were hesitant at first because Benny wasnât the best at picking out the correct items, and you knew Violet would give Benny a hard time and beg him to buy anything that looked interesting to her four-year-old eyes. Since you were running late and didnât have the time to mull it over, you agreed and quickly jotted down everything you needed on a piece of paper.
So now here the troublesome pair was in the store making their way down the list and the aisles.Â
âDo you wanna help daddy finish the list?â Benny asks Violet, trying to cheer her up.
She was still pouting, but now she had her arms crossed as she walked alongside her father. Violet shook her head at Benny and kept looking down at the ground.
Itâs obvious where Violet gets her stubbornness from..
Benny rolls his eyes as he bends down to Violetâs eye level. âYou know itâs not nice to ignore someone, weâve talked about this,â Benny says, but Violet still doesnât look up at him.
Then he gets an idea.
âOkay, how about this. You help me, and Iâll let you pick out something for yourself before we leave,â Benny tells her, and that catches Violetâs attention.
Violet looks at him for a second, before holding out one her hands and offering Benny her pinky.Â
Benny smiles as he wraps his own pinky around his daughterâs. âI pinky promise.â
The rest of the grocery list gets crossed off easily â with Violetâs help â and as promised, Benny lets Violet roam the aisles to try and figure out what she wants. He thought it would be a quick thing, but Violet has been walking around for at least ten minutes.
âSweetheart, itâs not that hard to make a decision,â Benny tells her as he glances down at his watch.
âIâm thinking!â she huffs. Benny throws his hands up in defense.
âWhat about the chips I told you to put back earlier, why donât you just get those?â he suggests, growing impatient.
âNo,â she glares up at him, before continuing down the aisle. Benny runs a hand down his face as he reluctantly follows her.
Finally, after a long process of elimination, Violet settles on a bag of candy. When Benny offers to hold it for her, she quickly draws her hand back, wanting to hold it herself.
âOkay miss independent,â Benny mumbles, but ignores her and heads towards the check out line.
Violet proudly hands the cashier her candy, which the girl gladly scans before handing it back to Violet with a smile.
âWhat do you say?â Benny asks Violet as he pulls out his wallet to pay.
âThank you,â Violet smiles up at the cashier.
âWell, you are most welcome,â the cashier gushes at her, before looking back at Benny, âShe is so cute.â
Benny quickly thanks her as he hands her cash for the groceries.
The cashier takes the money and counts it, and just as she begins to give Benny his change back she innocently asks, âWhereâs her mother, is she around?âÂ
Benny was grossed out â one: because the girl looked kike she was in high school, and two: because the girl had the audacity to ask a question like that.
âYeah,â he curtly says as he tucks the change back in his wallet.Â
The girl seemed disappointed at Bennyâs answer, but Benny didnât care. He grabs Violetâs hand in one of his and grabs the grocery bags in the other before heading out the store.
âWhy did she ask about mommy?â Violet asks, looking up at Benny.
âDonât worry about it sweetheart, itâs not important,â Benny shakes his head. Heâs glad when Violet quickly dismisses it and directs her attention to a tiny dog in some ladyâs purse walking past them. The lady sees Violet eyeing the dog and stops to let her pet it.
After putting the groceries in the car and prying Violet away from the dog, Benny motions for Violet to hold his hand so they could start walking to your job and wait for your shift to finish.
âDaddy, can we get a dog?â Violet asks as they walk, her bag of candy still in her other hand.
Bennyâs about to respond and tell her no when a middle aged woman steps into his path. The lady had a couple bags of groceries in one of her hands and one hand on her hip, an unpleasant look on her face. Benny goes to step around her, but the lady quickly blocks him.Â
When she opens her mouth, Benny expects her to address him, but instead the lady bends down to become eye level with his daughter. His grip tightens on Violetâs hand, but doesnât make a move to do anything else, wanting to see what the woman has to say since itâs clearly important to her.
âHey, sweetie, whereâs your mother?â the woman asks Violet and Bennyâs face contorts in frustration.
âWhat is up with these women today?â he thinks.
Violet opens her mouth to answer, but before she could get a word out, Benny speaks up. âViolet, we donât talk to strangers, remember?â
Violet looks up and gives him a nod, quickly closing her mouth.
âIs there somethinâ I can help you with, maâam?â Benny asks, trying to keep his tone pleasant in front of his daughter.
âYeah, is this little girl yours?â she glares, standing back up to look at Benny.
What the fuck?
âWhat does it matter to you?â Benny asks, his eyebrows furrowed.
âI just want to know what someone like you is doing with a child,â the woman says.
âWhat? Do I know you or somethinâ,â Benny questions.
âNo, but I know all about you Vandals, and I know that you guys are nothing but trouble with all your motorcycles and drinking. Riding a bike is too important to you guys, making it impossible for you men to care about anything else, let alone a family.â
Benny wasnât even wearing his colors today. After Violet was born, he stopped being so reckless and decided to stop riding so much. He didnât want to be thrown in jail and have his daughter start her life without a father, not to mention the fact that he would be missing out on the beginning of her life. Â
He rarely wears his colors or any type of leather in public anymore, so Bennyâs confused on how this lady knows who he is. Then again, he used to cause a lot of trouble back then to the point where everyone knew who he was as soon as he stepped foot inside of a bar or restaurant. That was a long time ago, though, and Benny isnât that lost soul anymore.
âListen lady, you have no idea what youâre talking about, so if youâd please move out of the way, Iâll go about my day,â Benny says. He doesnât wait for her to answer and tries to walk around her once again, but of course, she stops him. Benny clenches his jaw.
âYouâre not going anywhere until I know that this child is yours,â she folds her arms.
A few people stare at them as they walk by or get into their cars.Â
âThatâs none of your business,â Benny scoffs.
âIt is when Iâm concerned for this childâs wellbeing,â the lady states matter-of-factly, pointing down at Violet.
Violet looks up at her father in confusion. Sheâs not sure whatâs going on, but since itâs obvious that Benny doesnât like the lady in front of her, she decides that she shouldnât like her either.
Benny lets out a frustrated sigh and looks at Violet to ask, âViolet, do you feel safe with me?â
Violet just nods, moving closer to Bennyâs leg.
âSee,â Benny says to the woman, âsheâs fine.â
âThat doesnât mean anything at all,â the lady says.
âListen, I donât have time for this. Please move,â Benny tells her through gritted teeth. His patience is wearing thin.
But the lady doesnât move, and instead continues to stare Benny down.
âWhatâs going on here?â you ask as you walk up behind the lady.
Benny and Violet were so occupied with the woman, that neither of them realized you were walking toward them.Â
âThank god, someone else is concerned,â the lady mumbles before turning to face you. âI just want to make sure that this little girl belongs to this man, but heâs being difficult.â
âThe little girl looks fine to me,â you tell her, giving Violet a smile to which she happily returns.
âBut you canât be too sure of that, the man is practically squeezing this little girlâs arm to keep her next to him,â the lady says.
Your eyebrows furrow and you look over at Benny in confusion. Benny just shrugs and rolls his eyes.
âWell, I think itâs obvious that nothing strange is going on here, so why donât you go,â you try to reassure the woman.
âIâm not going anywhere until Iâm certain, Iâll call the police if I have to.â
âWhatâs your name?â you ask the lady, taking a couple steps closer to her.
âCheryl,â she answers.Â
âListen, Cheryl, I donât know why you think youâre trying to do, but itâs time for you to walk away. That man is my husband, and the child is mine. If thatâs not enough for you, I donât care. You clearly need attention so go find it from someone else, or better yet, get a life,â you say, walking past the lady to go stand next to Benny.
Cherylâs mouth parts in disbelief as she looks between you and Benny.
âIs there anything else youâd like to say? Did you want to bitch and complain some more?â you ask. Benny's eyes widen in surprise, you rarely swear. He has to bite his lip to stop himself from smiling.
Cheryl holds her head up high and clears her throat to reply, âIâll be on my way.â
âGood. Go play vigilante somewhere else, bitch,â you roll your eyes.
The lady looks like wants to say something else, but she doesnât. You watch her let out an annoyed breath before turning around and walking away.
When sheâs out of earshot, you look up at Benny. âWhat the hell was that?â
âI donât know. She knew I was Vandal and just assumed the worst. It doesnât really matter anymore,â Benny answers, watching the woman walk away.
âLooks like your past is coming up to you,â you let out a laugh resulting in Benny sending you a playful glare.
As you all start walking back to the car, Violet comes to your side and tugs your hand for you to look down at her. Benny watches as Violet holds her bag of candy up for you to see.Â
âUh oh,â he mumbles and pretends to be distracted by the keys in his hand.
âA whole bag, Benny? You couldnât have just bought her a lollipop or something?â you look over at him and wait for him to look back at you.
âWell what was I supposed to do, say no?â he throws his hands up.
âYeah, I do it all the time,â you nod.
âWell, I donât know about you, but Iâd actually like to stay on her good side,â Benny says, placing his hand on top of Violet's head.

Omgggg l've just had such a cute Idea for Benny
He's still a known rebel in this one but you had a baby young the baby's now about 3/4.
we know a lot of people didn't like them back then and that generation was strict, the outlaws were frowned upon.
Bennys out with your child shopping waiting for you to finish work they're picking you up, some stuck up lady's has been following them around secretly she makes bad assumptions/ tries to ask if the child is okay/where's it's mother things like that, and Benny gets angry starts being argumentative with the lady people stop and are listening, that's when you finish work and come outside and hear what the woman is saying, you jump in and defend Benny (massively) to the woman as a father, you embarrass her etc and bennys so proud.đ
Oooh I got you, coming soonđđ

Benny Cross x reader
Warnings - jealous!reader, some swearing, smoking, mentions of smut, fluff
Word count - 2351
a/n - ngl I wanted to add smut but it just didnât seem like it fit, also we need more benny imagines pplđ i hope you all enjoy :) â read part 2 here !

âIâve told you this before, and Iâll tell you again â you are one lucky girl,â Kathy tells you from her spot next to you, nodding in Bennyâs direction. âOr should I say that heâs the lucky one?â
You laugh as you follow her eyes, looking at Benny playing pool with some of the other Vandals in the corner. Just like any other weekend, you find yourself in this bar with all the other girlfriends as you watch Benny try to win a game of pool.
From the low lighting of the room, you couldnât deny how good he looked as he leaned against the pool table, waiting his turn. You felt warmth bubble in your stomach, but you casually dismissed it.Â
You definitely werenât the only one who thought this, though, because some of the random floating girls had their eyes on him as well, staring at his tattooed arms that shined from the thin layer of sweat covering them. Some of them were even bold enough to go up to Benny and throw themselves at him, knowing that he was taken, but not caring.Â
Everyone once in a while, Benny would find your eyes and shake his head in amusement from the unwanted attention.
âI think Iâm the lucky one,â you smile at her.
âWhatever you say. All I know is that it will always amaze me that Benny somehow convinced you to go out with him, â she shakes her head in fake disappointment. âWhat a shame.â
Another laugh makes its way past your lips, causing you to choke on your drink. Kathy wasnât dating anyone from the Vandals, but she hung around them a lot since she was close with some of the members â and of course because you were always around.
You turn around once you feel a presence sit down in the seat on the other side of you, revealing Benny who is already looking back at you. He wraps his arms around your shoulders as he gives you a wink.
âWhat are you saying to her now, Kathy?â he asks with a smile as he looks past you to look at her.
âNothing she didnât already know,â she shrugs, giving you a sly smile.
âWhich isâŚ?â Benny raises an eyebrow at her.
âItâs girl talk. We canât tell you, and you wouldnât want to know either,â you chime in before Kathy could answer. She is notorious for saying something that would get under his skin, but itâs not like it's unwarranted because Benny does the same thing right back to her.
Bennyâs about to say something else when someone interrupts him. You all turn to look at Cockroach and Bennyâs ex, Kay. Well, itâs not really his ex because they didnât really date, itâs just a girl he used to âhave relationsâ with a while ago and who is a regular at the bar.
You shoot Kathy a knowing look, to which she returns, before looking back at the standing pair.
âHey, Benny, a few of us are headed out to have a smoke. Do you want to join?â Cockroach asks, as he playfully shakes Bennyâs shoulders. He holds out a cigarette for Benny to take, Bennyâs ex gives you a smile before looking over at Benny, giving him a hopeful one and wanting him to say yes.
âSure,â Benny answers as he grabs the cigarette from his friendâs hand before looking at you and asking, âDo you want to join?â
You shake your head at the offer. He knows you hate smoking and only put up with it because of him, but he didnât want to leave you out.
âNo, you go ahead,â you tell him.
Benny nods, before getting up from his seat and following a small group. You watch as they walk away and out the double doors, though you could still see them through the glass window.
âWhy didnât you go with him?â Kathy asks as the two of you look outside. âIf I was you and a girl my man used to have sex with and offered him to smoke, I would be right behind him.â
âItâs not like heâs completely out of my eyesight,â you tell her, your eyes still on Benny. You watch as he accepts a lighter Kay offers, leaning down to light the cigarette with it still in his mouth. He takes a deep breath in and then slowly exhales, a cloud of smoke floating out of his mouth.
âIâm not doubting him, believe me that man loves you too much to even give someone else a chance. Iâve never seen him like this. I am doubting that girl though.â
âIâm not too worried about her,â you point out, but you feel your body contradict itself as you watch Kay laugh at something and place a hand on Bennyâs arm to keep herself steady.
You donât know much about Kay, but from what youâve seen around the hangout, she seemed nice. Well, nice enough. Itâs not like she and Benny broke off on bad terms either, they just stopped seeing each other since Benny had decided to leave town for a couple months. And itâs not like she isnât attractive.
That had always been one of your biggest fears when it came to your relationship â Benny just deciding to up and leave you without a momentâs notice, or just randomly drop you from his life. He seemed to be pretty happy and content with you, though, always wanting to be around you. That didnât stop that fear from lingering in the back of your head.
You shake your head, an attempt to make your thoughts disappear, and take a sip from the drink you had been nursing.
Throughout the night, you stay around Kathy. The two of you have a couple more drinks as you both decide to play some rounds at the pool table since most of the guys had walked away. Some of the guys you and Kathy did like were around to play as well. You joined in on some of the bets and even ended up winning some money, but some of the guys got upset.
While all of this was happening, you couldnât stop yourself from looking out of the window at Benny. It was mainly to admire him, but you canât deny the fact that you were trying to read everyoneâs lips through the glass. I mean, you couldnât help yourself. It seemed like Kay was constantly laughing at things Benny would say and vice versa. Then again, they could be pity laughs. You hope they were just pity laughs.
Benny didnât come back inside until the night ended and people were beginning to head home. He said his goodbyes, even to Kay, before coming back inside and searching for you. His eyes land on you near the pool table with Kathy and he makes his way towards you, grabbing your jacket and his.
âYou ready to go?â you hear Benny ask from behind you.
âOh, yeah. I guess it is late,â you turn around to look at him, no Kay in sight. You put the pool stick back in its spot, Kathy doing the same.Â
He hands you your jacket before putting on his leather one as you all exit the bar.Â
âYou two be careful getting home,â Kathy tells the two of you, mostly to Benny as a warning. He rolls his eyes in response.
âRelax, Kathy, sheâll be fine,â Benny says, handing you a helmet before starting the engine of his motorcycle.
You watch as Kathy walks away, heading towards one of the Vandals already on their bikes and asks for a ride home. You give her a wave as Benny pulls off, before wrapping your arms around his waist, hoping he doesnât do anything too reckless on the way home.
You hate that you feel this way about Benny staying outside practically the whole night. Itâs not like itâs a new thing for him since it's common to see some of the Vandals outside enjoying a cigarette. Itâs just that you werenât a huge fan of Kay being in his company, for an extended period of time at that.Â
Again though, you shouldnât care because heâs going home with you tonight and not her, but you still do.
When the two of you arrive back to your place, you quickly dismount the bike and head inside to take a shower, not wanting Benny to see your face because thereâs no doubt that heâll be able to see right through you.Â
You hope he doesnât try to join you in the shower either, since youâre not particularly in the mood at the moment. Thankfully he doesnât and just sprawls out on the bed and waits for his turn in the bathroom.
While Bennyâs in the shower, you decide to go downstairs and make a cup of tea to help you relax â reading a random newspaper while you wait for the water to boil on the stove. Hopefully this will help you get over the petty thoughts in your mind.
âI forgot to ask you, the guys are having this picnic in a couple of days and I was wondering if you wanted to come?â you hear Benny ask as he enters the kitchen. You glance out of the corner of your eye and take in his appearance â heâs wearing sweatpants and a tank top with his hair still damp.
âYeah,â you answer, keeping your eyes on the paper on the counter. âWhoâs going to be there? everyone?â
He starts listing off some names.
âAnd Kay?â you ask.
âI guess so, yeah,â Benny blinks, confused as to why you asked, but choosing to ignore it.Â
Itâs silent for a moment, neither of you saying anything next. Then you hear the sound of boiling water, so you move from leaning against the counter to pour the water into a cup, the tea bag already sitting inside.
Behind you, Benny is staring at you with his eyebrows furrowed, sensing something is up and trying to figure out what. He didnât do anything tonight, at least he doesnât think he did, so why did you seem upset? Was it because of someone back at the bar, one of the Vandals?
âWhatâs up with you?â Benny asks with a tilt of his head.
âNothing, why?â you shrug, giving the water in a cup a small stir before grabbing your newspaper to read again.
âBecause youâve barely said anything since we left the bar, so what is it?â he asks as he steps closer to you.
âI just said something.â
âOh wow, four whole sentences,â he sarcastically says. âIâm serious.â
You take a deep breath. âIâm fine, Iâm just tired.â
Benny doesnât believe it for a second. He steps closer to you and takes the newspaper from your hands, wanting you to look at him. He was going to get to the bottom of this.
âWhat are you doing?â you turn to look at him.
âNo, what are you doing? Whatâs up with this little mood youâre in?â
âBenny, please, itâs too late for this,â you roll your eyes and turn away, reaching for your cup. So much for relaxation.
Benny takes that from your hands too, moving everything out of your reach and using his body to press you against the counter. It took him a minute, but he thinks he has an answer.
âWhatâs your problem?â
âWhy did you ask if Kay was going to the picnic?âÂ
âI didnât know it was a problem for me wanting to know whoâs attending,â you fold your arms across your chest, you glare up at him.
âItâs not, but you never ask about her. So what is it really?â
âWhat are you trying to accuse me of?â
âWe both know what,â Benny leans down closer to your face, placing his arms on the counter on both sides of you. âI just need you to say it.â
âFuck you,â you stare into his eyes, his gaze just as intense.
And fuck him for being able to read you like a book.
âSo itâs true, then?â He raises his eyebrows in amusement.
There was no way in hell you were going to say you were jealous.
But Benny will. âThereâs no need for this facade anymore. Youâre jealous, and thatâs okay,â He smirks.
You just stare back at him, your jaw clenched and slightly embarrassed.
âAnd whatâs even funnier is that itâs because of someone like her,â he laughs.
You donât say anything, but look away from his gaze.
âOh come on, baby, donât be like that,â He told you, moving his head to try and meet your gaze, but you donât budge and continue to stare at the wall. âYou would think that the fact that Iâm sleeping in the house with you is confirmation enough that youâre the one I care for. Not to mention the countless times Iâve left you speechless in the bedroom.â
âBenny!â you gasp, shoving him away from you, but he just comes right back.Â
âWhat made you jealous of her?â He questions, his smirk disappearing and his face becoming more serious.
âNothing important,â you tell him, trying to get him to drop this conversation. You really were tired, and buddy wanted to go to sleep after an eventful night, but itâs Benny.
âNo, no, no. Tell me,â He shakes his head before adding, âDonât make me force it out of you.â
You hesitate for a moment. âShe was practically all over you outside the bar, and you didnât seem to have a problem with it,â you admit.
âI noticed that too, but I didnât want to make a scene,â he says and you shoot him another glare. âBut since you seem to care so much, Iâll remember to make one next time.â
He glanced down at your lips for a second before leaning in to close the gap between the two of you, but you move your head out of the way and press your finger against his lips.
âYouâve got to be fucking kidding me,â He mumbles. âWhat now?â

Chasing Feelings
Tyler Owens x reader
warnings - mutual pining, jealous!reader, some swear words, fluff
word count - 2838
a/n - this was literally supposed to come out within a week of the release of twisters, but Iâve been gone for a month lol. I took so many breaks while writing this, so I'm not completely sure everything goes together, but it should. thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy :)

Youâve had a crush on Tyler ever since the day you met him, and to you, he was way out of your league. You also werenât the only one who felt this way; the amount of girls who showed up at empty fields just to meet Tyler was insane, but could you really blame them?
Tyler has so much charisma to the point where it seems like heâs attracted to everyone he meets.Â
When he stares directly into everyoneâs eyes, giving them his undivided attention, and flashes that charming smile of his, itâs kind of hard to tell who he actually is or isnât flirting with.Â
You, of course, were no different, so how the hell were you supposed to know that he liked you back?
Tyler was from Arkansas and he and his team decided to move to Oklahoma to storm chase several seasons ago. When he first showed up that day at the gas station with Boone filming his every move, you thought that he was just another adrenaline junky wanting to see a tornado up close for views. At the time you were a part of another group of chasers from Oklahoma, and since you had already made up your mind about him, you decided it was best to ignore him.
But, he made it hard.
You were surprised to see him walk over to your group and start chatting it up with a couple of your teammates. Turns out, they knew him from his youtube channel and were fans. Having him so close to you made it easier to check him out, which Tyler had noticed, but never called you out for it.
He came up to introduce himself to you, giving you a smile and taking off his sunglasses as he walked towards you.Â
âYouâre a long way from home,â you had told him â you had overheard him talking about his hometown in Arkansas.
âThis is my home now,â he had said.
He had pointed out that he was familiar with some of your work and began joking around with you so casually like he had known you his whole life. Unfortunately, you became immediately hooked.
You spent that night binging all of his videos and past live streams because you were oh so wrong about him.
That day led you to where you are now, a part of Tylerâs crew and regularly going out on chases for the fun of it.
âHow are you doinâ today, Bambi?â you hear Tyler walk up and come stand next to you as you adjust the lens on your camera. You, and all the other crews, were currently at a gas station preparing for the coming storm.
When he had first given you that nickname, you had told him it was basic, which resulted in him smirking and saying, âAinât nothing basic about you.â
You still think about that moment to this day.
âJust fine, Tyler, is there something I can help you with?â you answer, not taking your eyes off your camera.
âWhat, I canât talk to my favorite person?â he asks.Â
You can hear the smile in his voice, and when you finally turn around to look at him, you arenât surprised to see it spread across his face. âI thought Boone was your favorite person?â you tilt your head at him.
âI can have more than one favorite,â he says, nudging you with his soldier.
You raise your eyebrows and glance over at Boone, who was already looking in your direction with a knowing smile, and say, âI wonder how Boone would feel about that.â
Boone was Tylerâs best friend and had known you had a crush on Tyler the day you joined the team, and since then has repeatedly told you to confess to Tyler. Every time you tell him no, he just tells you yes because according to him Tyler feels the same way about you. It didnât take long for Dani and Lily to catch on either, but unlike Boone, they donât pressure you.
âNo need to start any trouble,â Tyler jokes, and you laugh at that. He opens his mouth to say something else, but stops when he hears the sound of more vehicles pull up.Â
The two of you turn around in time for you to see the crew exit their vehicles, including Javi and what you know to be Kate. Youâve never met Kate given the fact that she rarely decides to come back home to Oklahoma, but from what youâve heard sheâs really good with tornadoes.
You watch as the pair head towards you â Javi coming up to hug you while Kate goes to hug Tyler. Javi shoots you a look as he glances over at the two, and you quickly give his shoulder a shove, causing him to let out a laugh.
Javi is also amongst those who know you like Tyler. This crush is honestly starting to become a little pathetic.
Kate pulls away from Tyler and looks over at you with a kind smile, holding her hand out for you to shake. âHi, Iâm Kate. Iâve heard a lot about you from Javi, so itâs nice to finally meet you.â
According to Boone, Tyler couldnât keep his eyes off of Kate the last time she was here. At the time your migraines had started to come back so you had decided to sit the chase out, and good thing you did because there was no way you could handle watching that scene unfold.
You offer Kate a smile back as you shake her hand. âSame here, itâs nice to meet you.â
âWhat brings you city folks out here?â Tyler jokes.
Kate rolls her eyes at the nickname. âIâm doing the same thing the two of you are doing â storm chasing,â she replies as she looks out at the horizon at the clouds forming, her hair moving with the breeze.
âI thought you left Storm Par,â you say to Javi as you motion your head towards the white trucks
âWe did, but that doesnât mean we canât use their equipment. They have some really high tech stuff â we might as well put it to good use,â Javi explains. He then looks over at Kate and gives her a nudge. âNot like we need it since Kateâs here.â
Kate gives him a small smile at the compliment.
âWell, city girl, which direction are we going in today?â Tyler asks as Kate bends down to take a dandelion into her hand. Tyler takes his sunglasses off in order to get a better look at the sky.Â
Itâs a question Tyler usually asks you when itâs just the two of you in his truck with the rest of the crew following behind in their vehicles. You have no right to be jealous, but that doesnât stop the feeling of jealousy from growing in your chest. Choosing to ignore it, you take a deep breath and watch Kate, waiting for her answer.
You watch as a gust of wind blows the specks of dandelion out of her hand, causing Kate to look up into the sky at a dark funnel beginning to take form.
âThat one,â Kate points.
âAre you sure?â Tyler questions in a teasing manner, one of his eyebrows raising.
âIâll tell you later,â Kate replies, and then follows it with a question, â do ya mind if I ride with you?â
âNot at all,â Tyller answers, but then turns to look at you,â as long as my trusty navigator doesnât mind.â
What the hell are you supposed to say? No?Â
You donât even notice your tense jaw until you open your mouth to answer. âOf course not, you two go ahead,â you tell Tyler, looking between him and Kate as you offer up a smile.
âWell then itâs settled, letâs ride. Just make sure you donât get me lost,â Tyler smirks as he turns to walk towards his truck. Kate rolls her eyes as she follows him, a small smile on her lips.
Javi turns to you once the pair are out of earshot. âYou donât mind?â he repeats your words, not believing you for a second.
âI donât,â you give him a shrug as you begin walking towards his Storm Par truck. Javi follows right behind you, his hands stuffed into his pockets.
âMhm. You look like you were about to pop a blood vessel,â Javi lets out a laugh.
You stop in your tracks and turn to face him. âWas it that obvious?â you ask, your eyes wide.
âRelax, Iâm kidding,â his smile drops once he sees the look on your face. You release a breath and continue walking. Once the two of you are in the safety of his truck, Javi asks, âyou really like him, huh?â
âUnfortunately,â you huff out. âIâm slowly trying to get over it, though.â
âWhy?â
âBecause it's a useless little schoolgirl crush, and itâs not like heâs actually going to like me back, so thereâs no point in continuing to suffer.â
Javi just hums in response, starting the vehicle and placing his hands on the steering wheel. Then he glances over at you, âI say you should hold out, whatâs the worst that can happen?â
Before you can answer, Tylerâs truck pulls up beside you guys on Javiâs side of the car. Tyler leans forward to look over at the two of you before moving his finger in a swirling motion and driving off.
âThatâs your man, huh?â Javi gives you a questioning look, his tone light.
You let out a small laugh, âJust drive the damn truck, Javi.â
The chase was eventful as always. Kateâs instincts were right and led the group right into the tornadoâs path, where Tyler stopped to anchor his truck. The rest of you hung back as you watched Tyler shoot fireworks into the eye of the storm.Â
Even though you had some distance on them, you could still hear the hoots and hollers coming from their spot in the field. The group of tornado watchers that had decided to join the chase got out of their vehicles to join the celebration.
Javi looks over at you and shakes his head in fake disappointment, resulting in you rolling your eyes.
After the chase everyone decides to go out for drinks before heading to the motel. From your spot at the bar next to Javi, you can see Tyler in the back of the bar throwing darts with Kate.
âYou know, you should blink every once in a while,â you hear a voice say in your ear. You jump and turn around to see Boone standing there with a grin and a beer in one of his hands.
âI donât think she cares at this point, she has been ignoring me all night for that redneck,â Javi jokes.
You scoff, âNo, I havenât.â
âOh really? What was I just talking about then?â Javi looks at you with his eyebrows raised. Boone joins him and turns his attention back to you.
Your mouth opens, but you quickly close it when you realize you donât have an answer. You let out a sigh as you drop your head into your hands. âIâm sorry,â you say in defeat.
âDonât worry about it,â Javi says, âI just canât wait for the two of you to finally get together so this can end.â
âYou and me both, brother,â Boone says, clinking his beer bottle against Javiâs.
As the night starts to come to an end, you say your goodbyes to the group before heading back to the motel. It was just across the street, and the majority of the people in the area were tornado chasers, so you had no problem walking back by yourself.
After making your way up the stairs and into your room, you decide on taking a quick shower before heading off to bed.
When you get out, youâre about to turn the lights and the tv off so you can go to sleep when you hear a knock on your door. Assuming it was Boone, Dani, or even Lily, you open the door without hesitation, only to reveal Tyler on the other side.
He stands in front of you, his hands in his pockets as he looks down at you with a gentle smile and his clothes still on from the day. âHey, there. You left without sayinâ goodbye.â
âWell I told Boone, Javi, Dani, and Lily goodbye, so technically I did,â you tell him. A gust of wind from the night breeze blows through the doorway, causing you to cross your arms over your chest.
âOuch, I see Iâm not important anymore,â Tyler says.
You let out a small laugh. âIâm pretty sure you donât need me to tell you youâre important.â
âYou know I do,â he says.
You let out a small hum in response before asking, âSo whereâs Kate?â
âIâm actually not sure, last time I saw her, I think she was talking with Javi,â he answers, his eyebrows furrowing as he glances back at the parking lot. Then he shrugs and says, âI had to leave her since she was kicking my ass in darts so who cares.â
âDidnât enjoy having your ego bruised, huh?â you joke, and Tyler rolls his eyes.
âHey, I donât have a problem with gettinâ beat by a woman,â he chuckles.
âWhatever you say,â you smile at him. âWas there something else you wanted? I was just about to go to bed.â
Tyler clears his throat. âUh yeah, there is actually,â he tells you as he stands up straight. You raise your eyebrows as you wait for him to continue. âI was wonderinâ, well hopinâ, you would want to do somethinâ. You know, just the two of us,â he says.
Is he - No, letâs not jump to conclusions.
âDonât we always?â you question.
âWell, yeah, but I meantâŚyou know,â Tyler begins to scratch the back of his neck, and glances down at the ground, âLike a date.â
You blink. And blink again. And again.
Then when Tyler notices your silence, he adds, âBut I totally understand if you donât want to.â
You blink again. âLike seriously?â you finally ask. Your eyebrows are furrowed, still not completely believing him.
âYes,â he says.
âOkay,â you nod, a small smile starting to form on your lips.
Okay? Thatâs all you have to say?
âYeah?â Tyler perks up, and you nod again.
âYeah,â you confirm.
Tyler chuckles. âYou know, I donât know why I was nervous. I already knew you had a crush on me.â
You choke on your spit as you give him an incredulous look. âYou what?â
âYeah, and you know I figured you would catch on to me by now, but I wasnât sure if you were and just ignoring me or what,â he smirks.
âAnd how exactly was I supposed to catch on?â you ask, adding air quotes at the end.
âIâve been flirting with you this whole time,â he tells you like itâs obvious.
âTyler, I donât know if youâve noticed, but you flirt with anyone,â you tell him.
âNo, I donât,â Tylerâs face twists up, and you give him a look. He thinks for a second before saying, âWell, yeah, I guess I do. Kind of.â
âWhat the hell do you mean âkind ofâ?â
âI feel like my serious flirting is different from my usual charming self,â he shoots you a wink.
âNo. No itâs not Tyler. Your usual charming self made me think you like Kate,â you tell him, causing his eyebrows to raise in amusement.
WellâŚmaybe you shouldâve kept that last part to yourself.
âYou thought I liked Kate?â he smiles, leaning in a little bit more.
You roll your eyes and decide not to answer. Tyler takes your silence as a greenlight to keep talking shit.
âWere you jealous?â
You scoff as your eyes widen, âhow dare you!â
âYou were!â he exclaims, your reaction giving you away.
Feeling your face begin to heat up and wanting to hide from the embarrassment you back up to be able to close the door in his face. âGoodnight Tyler,â you mumble, fully ready to be alone once again, but of course Tyler puts his hand up to stop you.
âOh come on, Bambi, donât shy up on me now,â he smirks, going back to leaning on the door with his palm still on the door.
âSays the one who got nervous to ask me out,â you point out, causing Tyler to laugh. âGoodnight,â you repeat, and once again you try to close the door, but youâre met with resistance.
Tylerâs laughter dies down. âAlright, alright, Iâll stop,â he tells you. âCan I come in?â
âI donât know,â you reply, giving him a stern look.
âCome on, I promise I wonât tease you anymore.â
You sigh. âFine.â
Tyler thanks you as you step aside to make room for him to enter the room, but as he walks past you, he says, âBut Kate? Really?âÂ
Yeah, he isnât going to let this go anytime soon.
