Some miscellaneous facts about Ruthie that I wanted to share! ♡

⋆ Her favorite flowers are peonies and sunflowers

⋆ She smells like cinnamon rolls and peaches

⋆ She's only dated one other person before dating Cater

⋆ She is a fan of Neige

⋆ Though her and Rook have never met in person, they know each other through Neige's fanclub, as Rook contacted her after Neige had visited Bippity Boppity Bakery one day

⋆ Ruthie used her unique magic for the first time when she was eight, wanting her father to be happy

⋆ Her father met someone due to her unique magic, and abandoned her to start a new life with them

⋆ Her father now lives in the Shaftlands, having made a name for himself. He's considered a celebrity chef, with a famous chocolate shop

⋆ She was adopted by an elderly couple after she was abandoned, who raised her and consider her to be their daughter (refusing to even speak her biological father's name)

⋆ Her parents are Glenn Aisling, the owner of Bippity Boppity Bakery, and his husband, Dr. Dimitri Aisling, a veterinarian

⋆ She refers to her parents as Papa Glenn and Papa Dimitri, and has a close father/daughter bond with them

⋆ Whenever Ruthie would miss her father or have a nightmare, Dimitri would sneak her into the bakery to have a treat (making it like a game, as they had to make sure Glenn didn't notice)

⋆ Dimitri would let her choose whatever she wanted, but he always picked a chocolate eclair for himself, as it's his favorite dessert. The first time he did this for her, he told her,

"The great thing about food is the memories that come with it. The people who made it, the people you shared it with. I want you to be able to look at this dessert and remember there's people who love you, Ruthie. Whether it be your Papa Glenn, who worked hard to make them, or me, the one helping you steal them."

Laughing and ruffling her hair afterwards. This is why chocolate eclairs are her favorite food.

⋆ She got her pet hamster Raisin as a birthday gift from Glenn, who used Dimitri's help to find the perfect pet for her

⋆ She cannot be trusted with plants, as she has a bad habit of giving them too much love and overwatering them

⋆ Since she is a member of the gardening club at her school, her clubmates had to ban her from watering duty

yalll i saw a tweet about how some of guys don't know that epel is meant to be sámi, not a southern american??? babes... he's very sámi. just as the original tweet said, not everything his "gringo-centric"

i suggest really looking into the sámi people and the oppression they face by their governments!! the 1960s saw a wave of forced assimilation in norway. culture and language is constantly under threat, with children having not been allowed to speak their native languages in educational settings. this oppression goes all the way back to the 15th/16th century, and it is not unique to norway. there have been campaigns to eradicate their customs, language and religious practices for centuries.

like, y'all, there's heavy inspiration, especially in the collars!! these intricate designs and the jewelry... my goodness this is so pretty???

correct me if im wrong, but the term gákti is used to describe these garments. there have been controversies over finnish people dressing up in fake gákti and performing "traditional rituals" for tourists. this is extremely similar to various other cultures. the act of exoticizing and orientalizing the sámi people and their culture serves no purpose but to fill the pockets of non-sámi capitalists who oppress them.

on that note, when writing epel fics please stop with the southern american shenanigans, especially when the culture he is implied to be from has actively been eradicated for centuries.
