Finally, another person has said it! I love Ryuji so much but my dude... That was poor timing so that slap was deserved (I sure as hell would have done the same if I were in her position). Everything else, like you said, wasn't. I just pretend that the last half of this bit and both the bath house scenes in Strikers just didn't happen. Also, it does get mentioned later in Royal... As a Thieves' Den conversation between Ann, Makoto, and Futaba which is nice but even then it kind of came off as lazy imo (especially when you intrepret them as just cognitions and not the real ones) since they could have easily utilized it in the base game since they ended up adding and changing small details here and there.

SPOILERS FOR PERSONA 5 (SHIDO ARC)

Look, I know most people pointed out that Ryuji getting beaten by his PT teammates at the end of Shido’s palace was garbage. I still thinks it’s hot garbage, too.

BUUUUT, I also wanna pay attention to the fact that Ryuji says a dumb joke about the girls’ crying not being “cute” when he came back from the ship explosion. Like bro, your friends thought you almost DIED for crying out loud. And yeah, I know Ryuji can be scatterbrained at times, but he should have the decency and common sense to read the air. So Ann slapping him was well-deserved.

…anything that happened after that didn’t need to happen, though.

So... I've been trying to type out a remake of my old oneshot, "Beneath The Mask" and I now know why it's taking so long for me to type and why I got stuck: I've thinking on and off about changing the main ship.

The original HaseMaru version was good but... I've been thinking about the remake being focused on KonoZen because 1: It would make a bit more sense why Zen would be at this fancy party (Konoe invited him), 2: There would be more reasons for Zen to be anxious besides people looking down on him (feeling like he doesn't belong/out of place, people blaming him for what happened with Konoe and the company, etc.), and 3: There's just not enough love for this pairing and I've been wanting to give it such for a while now.

I would say: Konoe, fresh out of prison, had an invite sent to the station inquiring that Zenkichi (along with Kaburagi) should come (he's already gotten a bit of media attention regarding Owada's arrest). Zen is VERY hesitant due to past events but ultimately agrees. He is surprisingly met with a warm welcome from the other man who helps him get properly dressed (Zen didn't have anything besides his suit). Konoe's subordinates however... Not so much. That's where the anxieties would come in and he and Konoe do start bonding a bit before the latter offers a dance. Zen nearly gets cold feet but takes it. During it though, the whispers get worse and he runs off after it was over. Other things would happen but it would end rather happily and with the same overall idea and message except Konoe's case would be a confession than anything. Or something like that. Idk. But yeah, I think that's why I've been having trouble lately so... Yeah fuck it, I'm switching it. KonoZen needs more love on AO3. I will store the polycule idea away for the two and Maruki for another day though. I will keep the original up for anyone who wants the HaseMaru version though!

A pair of abused and lost souls that seek justice above all else... But took different paths to achieve it. One on the path of eventual healing, the other on the path of self-destruction. One is outcasted while the other is loved. One desires and regains free will, the other unknowingly steals it from others under the belief that they're "saving" them. In the end though... Who was the hero and who was the villain in their stories?

Yep, that's what I mean by the addition coming off as lazy on Altus' end.

The 1st scene I will say is fine, especially since the guys were more or less still being respectful of boundaries when they could have went the other horrible anime cliches of peeping along with the Sophia conversation (plus, you can have Joker be bi again for a second) but I think it ended up making the 2nd scene worse for Futaba and Makoto is what ultimately made me mad since the former was the one who was... Touching Ann and Haru without consent while Makoto just lightly scolded her but when the guys make an honest mistake and were still being respectful of their boundaries? Futaba hypocritically calls them "quadruple pervs" like she wasn't any better (if not worse depending on who you ask) before while Makoto beats them and Mona to the point of nearly being unconscious which could have majorly screwed them over since the police raid was going to happen at around the same night had Zenkichi not intervened and let himself get arrested in their place. It was just... Such a double-standard that was shown there so there was hardly anything redeemable about the 2nd one. I can understand that it's typical Japanese humor so definitely a cultural difference but I do wonder when even they're gonna get tired of this eventually.

I don't necessarily hate Futaba as I used to (more neutral) since she had at least some good moments to balance it all out but both scenes were not a good look for her. I don't like Makoto at all but even I know she could have been better. Like Futaba though, it wasn't a good look for her either and made made me dislike her more unfortunately.
