The evening sun illuminates Jungkook’s apartment, golden hour bouncing off every reflective surface and straight into his eyes the second he walks in, immediately squinting as he makes a beeline to shut the blinds. His head was already throbbing from the hangover that decided to peak around noon, a mean case of nausea putting a damper on his work day. So as much as he loved soaking in some vitamin D today was not the day. 

“Are you joking?” he huffs as he brings down the blinds, hand yanking at the flimsy string in an attempt to get it unstuck. “How stup—you’d think with the amount I pay every month in rent the blinds would work!” 

Alright, so maybe he was a little grumpy today, choosing to take it out on an inanimate object and blame it purely on the bad decisions made last night—definitely had nothing to do with the residual moping of you going on a date. This could be fixed, easily. 

The first order of business? Texting you to see if you’d be interested in devouring greasy food from your favorite place down the street. He’d get to see you and finally put something in his stomach, it’s the best of both worlds really.

You stood on the curb outside the slowly emptying wedding venue, the gentle breeze rustling through your gently curled hair while you gazed across the parking lot on this particularly warm summer evening. You fidgeted in your tall stiletto heels and tight dress that mapped every curve of your body; you were never much for dressing up like this, but you weren’t about to show up to your ex’s wedding dateless and looking like a mess, so you had decided to make somewhat of an effort with your appearance tonight. Although you supposed that you weren’t exactly dateless anymore—not since your fake boyfriend and notorious fuckboy, Jeon Jungkook, had stormed into the wedding reception and declared his love for you in a heartfelt confession speech delivered before the unexpecting families of two newly-wed lesbians.

But to understand all of that, one needed to back up to about three months ago; back to that fateful day when the unbearable and chaotic playboy himself had come into the craft store you worked at to hit on you and clumsily knock over your carefully arranged glitter displays in the process (as he far too often did), but instead found himself butting into your conversation with your ex-girlfriend and her new fiancée. Maybe if he had the good sense not to interject himself where his input wasn’t needed, or if you had the balls to just punch him on sight when he’d approached you that day, then none of this would have ever happened, but that wasn’t the plan that providence—or Jeon Jungkook—had in store. No, on that day, Jungkook had decided it would be a great idea to try and ‘save you from your embarrassment’ by interrupting your already awkward conversation with your ex and her new lover and introducing himself as your fiancé—unknowingly hitching himself a ride on the invitation to her wedding with you and sealing both of your fates in the process.

What followed was three months of absolute chaos, including; fake dates, awkward kisses, sharing beds, some well-intended flirting, lots and lots of arguments, and a heaping tablespoon of ‘pretending to be a young couple in love to everyone who saw you’ shenanigans—including fooling even Jungkook’s close friends who, while they were shocked that Jungkook even had a “girlfriend” after his checkered past with women, had still welcomed you into their group with open arms. Over the course of this summer, you and Jungkook had undoubtedly bickered and disagreed countless times, and to be honest, most of the time he just plain drove you crazy, but the more you learned about him, the more you began to realize that there was more to him than just the godless fuckboy he seemed to be on the surface.
