Do people really talk about it that way? Damn. Like, I get it feels different when it's happening to you instead of a distant "other" that you don't often see, but people die because they're gay. We're fighting to keep America from backsliding, but we also have to fight to push other nations forward, or it'll get easier and easier to backslide for us and justify staying bigoted for them.

it bears repeating in a more gentle manner but in the nicest way possible, there is a really issue with discrepancy when you talk about issues happening in different countries. when it’s anti-trans/gay laws in north america and western europe, it becomes “genocide”. when other countries, like mine, have jail and death penalties for being gay explicitly, it becomes a matter of “oh it’s illegal there” and sometimes, insidiously, “that’s just how they are, they’re less progressive.” and i need you all to know this is white supremacy talking and i, a gay person living in a country under the threat of death penalty, am as much of a victim as you are.

I can't donate atm, but it seems like a great place! I wish there was something more similar to this where I live but I'm in the epitome of Red State. So yeah.

Perhaps the funniest thing that could have happened lately was that this anticapitalist cafe and community space near my place was shutting down near the end of May - but because so many Texas and Florida conservatives celebrated it online, the place got a huge donation to keep operating

It's a great place. It functions mostly like a regular cafe but it has this free/pay what you want drip coffee for anyone who wants it, free bathroom use, and it stocks indie merch and books on antifascist, queer, leftist, socialist, indigenous topics. I've met a lot of awesome people there.

Its very existence enrages conservatives, and anarchocapitalists who tried to claim it only to be shown the middle finger by its anticapitalist owner, who is an all around nice dude (and a fellow Elden Ring fan)
