My Masterlist

When you decided to move to Riverdale you had thought that a small town would do you good, you thought that it would be a great place to meet a new group of friends, maybe get yourself a boyfriend. What you hadn’t expected was the town to be falling apart when you arrived.

You were 25 and not too long out of college. You had gotten a job as a surgical resident at Riverdale’s hospital and had decided to go for a walk to familiarise yourself with the town when you spotted a huge riot outside what looked to be the town’s police station. You were prepared to walk turn around and walk away when a gun shot sounded, followed by a few screams and a loud shout of ‘get help!’.

As a surgical resident you had done countless rotations in the ER and decided to go and help. People were dispersing from the crowd pretty quickly, so it was easy enough to push your way through the reducing crowd.

“I’m a doctor, I can help!” You shouted over the chaos and kept moving onwards until you found a boy on the floor with an attractive older man and three other kids looming over him. A tall, dark haired boy moved completely out of the way and the pink-haired girl moved to where the boys head laid and cradled it in her lap.

You pulled up the tan boys shirt and examine the wound briefly before covering it with your hand and leaning forward to look the boy in the face. “Hi sweetheart, my name is Y/N and I’m a doctor, can you tell me what your name is?”

“F-fangs.” His words were breathy, but he could still understand you and respond.

“Right Fangs, there’s no need to worry, the wound isn’t very deep, everything is going to be fine.” You turn to the dark-haired boy who’s wearing a beanie. “Can you put pressure on the wound for me? I want to put my cardigan against the wound.” The boy complied, so you tugged your cardigan off and the older man lifted the wounded boy, so you could wrap the length of your cardigan around his body. You tied it off tight across his wound and the blood slowed down from its original gushing.

“There we go Fangs.” You spoke calmly. “This should slow down the blood flow, you’re probably going to feel a bit dizzy though.”

You noticed that the tall boy had disappeared and briefly wondered where he had gotten to. You lowered your voice and leaned over to talk to the older man. “We should get him to the hospital as soon as possible, I’ve stemmed the blood flow, but he’s still got a nasty bullet wound.”

The attractive older man let out a deep breath and nodded tightly. “I’m FP Jones and this is my son Jughead.” You smiled slightly and nodded before standing and wiping your bloody hands on your jeans. You helped the two men stand Fangs up and between them they carried Fangs to a lightly rusted truck. You climbed in the back seat and helped FP and Jughead to arrange Fangs over the backseat.

Before you knew it you were at the hospital and you were storming up to the front desk and introducing yourself. Then you were whisking Fangs away and leaving a distraught FP and Jughead in the waiting room.

You weren’t meant to start work for another week but when the hospital found out you were already here they roped you into working through the night and helping the riot ‘victims’. You didn’t get a chance to have a break for another 4 hours, when you did you managed to find FP’s phone number in the system, which was no easy feat considering you had no idea his name was actually Forsythe Pendleton. Some of the nurses told you about the gang that the man and his son and the injured boy that you’d brought in belonged to, the Southside Serpents. The nurses had been whispering about how dangerous they were but all you had seen was scared kids and a distraught man.

“Hello?” A gruff voice came from the other end of the line.

“Hi! Erm, it’s Y/N, the doctor who helped your friend Fangs earlier on, I was just calling to give you an update!” You voice was cheery, you always loved saving lives and you were glad to have been in the right place at the right time to save Fangs’.

“Oh.” FP was clearly taken aback. “We already got a call, we heard Fangs died.”

“What?!” You screeched before remembering you were still in the hospital and pulling a face and lowering your voice. “I called to tell you that Fangs is fine, he didn’t even need any surgery, the wound wasn’t very deep at all. Who told you he was dead?!”

“Wait, Fangs is alive?!” FP spoke incredulously, you felt terrible, you couldn’t believe that someone had told FP that the young Serpent was dead.

“He’s very much alive, I can go to his room and see if he wants to speak with you, although he may be asleep.” You suggested, walking over to the floor’s reception desk to find out which room the boy was in. You had been run ragged in the ER with riot victims, who were mostly people with broken noses and twisted ankles from being caught in the mob of people.

FP was quiet on the other end of the phone line and for a few seconds you were concerned that the phone line had disconnected so you pulled your phone away from your ear to check the that the call was still connected, which it was.

“No, I’ve got to go, my son’s gone missing, I think we might be seeing you again tonight if you’re working.” FP’s voice was hoarse, and it struck you that Jughead must have gone back out into the riots.

“I’ll be ready.” You promised and with that the gang leader hung up the phone. You decided to go and visit Fangs before the Serpents arrived so that you had an update for the older man. You found Fangs in a double room in the low dependency unit, he wasn’t asleep as you had suspected, instead he was sat up in bed with two empty pots of jello on the tray table and a third in his hand as he shovelled the strawberry flavoured jello into his mouth.

“Hey Fangs, do you remember me?” You smiled at the boy, he had started to get very confused from the blood loss towards the end of your car journey with the Jones’. You’d given him a blood transfusion and some fluids, after fishing the bullet out and stitching up the boys wound.

“You’re doctor Y/N, right?” Fangs sent you a wide grin and placed his now empty cup of jello onto the tray. “You saved my life.”

You chuckled. “The bullet wound wasn’t that bad.” You gave him a grin. “But in that riot, that could’ve been disastrous.”

“I was so scared, but you were there, and you knew what you were doing, you made me feel calm.” Fangs’ eyes started to fill with unshed tears, so you stepped closer to the boy and gently wrapped an arm around his shoulder. The boy immediately nuzzled himself into your neck, being careful not to turn his body towards you.

“You’re okay, sweetheart.” You stroked his thick hair. “I came to check on you, so I could give the serpents an update on how you’re doing. I bet you’re a bit lonely in here as well, aren’t you?”

“A bit, but I’m alright.” Fangs gave you a small smile. “It must be crazy out there, huh?”

“Oh yes.” You chortled. “I wasn’t meant to start until next week, but it was so busy they were going to call me in, I just so happened to be here anyway.”

Fangs frowned slightly. “I’m sorry-.”

“No, no, no, it’s not your fault! I would’ve been called in anyway and you needed my help much more than someone with a broken nose.” You assured and as Fangs opened his mouth to reply your beeper started to go crazy, so you pulled it out of your pocket to see a 911 page. “Oh gosh, I have to go Fangs.”

“Go!” He laughed and then winced at the pressure on his stomach.

You arrived down into the ER to a team crowded around a gurney and FP surrounded by the dark-haired boy and pink-haired girl who you’d seen with Fangs earlier on in the evening and a few other kids too. It must’ve been FP’s son, who you’d found out was also called Forsythe Pendleton, it must’ve been a family name. You thought you remembered him calling his son Jughead though.

“Hey, I’m Dr Y/L/N, is this Jughead?” Some of the nurses moved aside to let you through and you stomach churned slightly, you were used to seeing people in awful conditions, but you’d seen this boy so alive, just hours before.

“Yes doctor, he’s been beaten severely, and a tattoo has been cut off his upper right arm. Obs are good but he’s been unconscious for at least 20 minutes.” An intern rattled off to you, it wasn’t great, but you were clearly the most senior doctor around at the minute, in a case this severe you’d usually have paged an attending.

“No attendings available?” You questioned as you pulled your light out of the pocket of your scrubs and pulled Jughead’s eyelids open to check to see if his pupils were responsive, thankfully they were.

“No doctor.”

You nodded sharply. “No problem. Let’s get the primary survey done. Can someone show the family and friends to the relatives’ room?” You checked Jughead’s airway, which was clear but when you could hear a wheezing noise, you used your stethoscope to check for breathing sounds on both sides of the lungs and found absent breath sounds on his left side.

“We’ve got a pneumothorax; can someone get me a kit.” You slipped on a plastic gown as the nurses cut Jughead’s shirt to expose his side to you, before they spread antiseptic solution over his side and draped him to give you access to the area. Your nimble fingers quickly felt for the space between the 5th and 6th ribs and inserted some anaesthetic to numb the area, not knowing when the boy would awake, before using a scalpel to create a hole for the test tube and carefully pushing it in. You let out a breath of relief when there was an audible hiss.

You then used the fast scan to check for any internal bleeding, but luckily there wasn’t any. You suspected that the boy had a few broken ribs and his wrist was badly sprained but for all the beating he had gotten off pretty lightly. The boy would have to have a skin graft for his missing tattoo, so you told one of the nurses to page plastics and to book Jughead in for an x-ray. Some of his cuts were pretty nasty so you told the nurses to clean Jughead up and stitch up the smaller cuts and leave the more severe ones for plastics.

You stripped yourself of the bloody gown, not wanting to scare Jughead’s friends and family and got one of the nurses to take you to the relatives’ room, not quite used to the hospital just yet. You tentatively entered the room and were greeted by FP, a handful of Serpents and a few other kids.

“Y/N. Is he okay?” FP’s voice was hoarse, and his eyes were slightly red, from crying you assumed.

“He’s doing alright at the moment, he had a collapsed lung, but we treated that, he probably has a few broken ribs and a sprained wrist, but he’s gotten off pretty lightly, he’ll just be very bruised for a while and he has a few nasty cuts. He will have to have a skin graft for where his tattoo has been cut off though. He’s still unconscious, but his body is responsive, so we aren’t worried about that at the moment, the body tends to shut down if it goes through a lot of stress.” You tried to dull down all the medical terminology so Jughead’s friends and family would understand that Jughead was fine.

“Oh, thank god.” FP’s voice shook and then he brought you into his arms. “Thank you so much.” You were slightly shocked by the sudden affection but quickly brought your arms around the attractive man.

“You keep saving my kids, I don’t know how to thank you.” He muttered as he pulled back.

“Well, you can stay out of trouble for me and stop bringing me injured kids.” You proposed with a grin. FP looked a bit sheepish and you noticed the Serpents sharing looks. You winced. “What are you guys going to do?”

“The Ghoulies want our land.” The tall, dark-haired Serpent from earlier barked from his place behind FP. “We’re fighting them tonight.”

You shook your head in disbelief and FP’s eyes pleaded with you silently. “Do what you have to but at least try to stop bringing me injured kids!”

“This is Betty, she’s Jughead’s girlfriend and this is Archie, Jughead’s best friend. They will stay here whilst we go out and deal with the Ghoulies.” FP gestured to a blonde-haired girl and a ginger boy.

“Fine, you can’t see him just yet though.”  You addressed the children and opened the door to let the Serpents through. Then you sat down next to Betty. “Jughead is fine, I promise.” Betty visibly relaxed and nodded, her blonde pony tail bobbing with her movements.

“So, tell me.” you smiled slightly. “Should I be expecting more injured kids?”

“I wouldn’t be surprised.” There was a bitter tone to Betty’s voice and you could tell that she’d had enough of all of the fighting.

Of course, there were more injured kids, none of them were very severely hurt, mostly just sprains and bruises, there was one stab wound, but it wasn’t very deep and barely needed stitches. FP explained to you that the Serpents had lost all of their homes, they had been burned to the ground. You were able to discharge Fangs after he’d spent 24 hours in the hospital and Jughead was released a couple of days later after he’d had his skin graft.

You hadn’t seen FP since, but you wanted to go and check up on the kids that you’d treated so you went to the campsite where the Serpents were staying.

“Hey, it’s doctor Y/N.” Fangs’ cheery voice rang through your ears.

“How are you doing Fangs?” You approached him and gestured towards his shirt, where his bullet wound had been. “Can I take a look?” The boy nodded, and you checked the wound, which was healing nicely. Then you checked on Jughead.

“You’re an angel, you know.” A husky voice came from behind you as you redressed Jughead’s skin graft.

“I seem to be your angel.” You retorted back with a grin, lightly flirting with the attractive man you knew was behind you. Once you finished redressing the boys arm you turned to face his father, who took you by the arm and pulled you to one side.

“You can be my angel any day, doll.” FP smirked at you and you felt yourself blush lightly.

“I’d like that.” You admitted shyly, wringing your hands together.

“I think we could sort that out, doctor Y/N.” One of FP’s hand came to grasp your cheek and suddenly his lips were on yours. You could just about hear the cheers of the Serpents over your bliss. FP tasted like cigarettes and there was a slight taste of beer. FP pulled away and rested his forehead against yours. “My angel.”
