im gonna hop up on my video game high horses just to say: play indie games. support indie game makers. and i dont just mean the stuff on steam that lucks into getting really popular, i mean go on itch.io and find a weird dating sim or an atmospheric pixelated bitsy game or a twine game that takes maybe half an hour to play but will make you bawl your eyes out. a lot of this stuff is pay what you want and a good bit of it is just free to play in-browser too

i dont think we need to like sound the death knell on video games as a creative medium, but it’s clear that the top of the industry is becoming a very narrow place, and part of the (artistic) defense against that is to keep making and keep playing games that fall outside of that tiny sphere

Rewatching Daria and I feel that nobody really talks about how terrible Jane and Trent's parents actually are.

They really neglected Trent for 6 months because they thought they were teaching him to "be free" when in reality it was a cry for help and he was waiting for someone to tell him to come back inside because he wanted to know if anyone cared and I have no doubts that Jane was the one who told him to come back inside.

Summer hates even being mear her family but probably has no idea how to be a proper parent to her children who constantly run away from her, because she never had proper parents in her life. She also wasn't a good student and most likely didn't graduate and probably ended up getting taken advantage of by some shitty guy or guys who got her pregnant and then dumped her, since it's stated that she used to live at her parents house with her kids when she was younger and that Jane used to watch her kids and seeing how two of her children share her maiden name, it's safe to assume their father isn't in the picture at all and I don't wanna say that Summer dumped her kids on Jane because she has a habit of dumping her other two kids at the Lane household when she goes to look for the first two, even when no one's at home. Summer is probably so used to just dumping her kids on Jane that she didn't even care to look and see if someone was in the house first. She probably also used to dump her kids on Jane to go looking for guys to meet up with, since it's stated she's had multiple failed marriages and relationships, so I have the feeling that Summer just doesn't want to be alone and doesn't want to raise her kids alone, so she just jumps into any relationship , despite most of them failing.

Wind is neurotic and unable to keep a stable relationship, diving headfirst into marriages even though all of them end up failing, which causes him to have frequent emotional breakdowns. Wind is probably scared to be alone because his parents were never there for him so he probably doesn't even marry for love, he just wants to be with somebody, which is why he was so upset when Katey and him broke up and buried himself in pamphlets on how to save marriages, because he doesn't want to be alone, just like Summer.

Penny is abrasive, rude and self-serving and seems to only care about herself and even shrugs Wind off when he was glad that she was okay. This is probably due to her being the middle child so she probably got the worst out of her parents neglect. It probably made her feel like she wasn't wanted so that's why she feels as if she had to escape to all of these different countries.

Jane probably only turned out better than all of them is because she had Trent. Trent seems to care the most about Jane, hell, he was the only one in their family who even bothered to come to her graduation. Jane had someone. The rest of her siblings had no one. And according to what happened to Trent in the backyard, Jane was the one who was in charge of bringing him food. Their own parents didn't even care to bring their son food themselves, they made Jane do it. So Trent also had Jane, which is why they're so close. Trent is the only one who actually makes time to spend time with his little sister, wrote her a birthday song and is always looking out for her.
