I Cant Speak For Everyone But I Feel Like It's Underrated Just How Much Impact Being Physically Disabled

i cant speak for everyone but i feel like it's underrated just how much impact being physically disabled has on mental health. because physically disabled people often have to remind others that we struggle with mental health issues that it sometimes sounds like an afterthought to others. but it's a real impact of being physically disabled. being unable to go outside or leave the bed worsens depression. having actively declining health worsens depression because part of depression is being unable to imagine a future for yourself. it also creates anxiety. you have to rely on people. on carers, family, the government. it's hard to assure anxiety when you are in a precarious position and the "worst case scenario" is not something you can circumvent or deal with, because lack of care will kill you. has killed people like you. being told you are worthless, that people like you should die or never live in the first place has a big impact on mental health. being physically disabled and unable to defend yourself, being forced to rely on people, opens up a lot of opportunities for abuse and trauma. being in pain is traumatic, medical procedures may be traumatic - and being a disabled child leads you to be doubly vulnerable. people often have to focus on their physical needs to keep them alive - to keep them clean and fed and such. and with such little energy to spare it is difficult to manage mental health. all the stigma surrounding mental health doesn't disappear because you're already disabled. sometimes when you do reach out people will just focus on trying to make you less disabled in order to cure the mental illness issue, instead of giving you the tools to help manage it in your current and real life.

quick reminder that delusions are strongly held, fixed beliefs not based in reality [edit] and aren't reinforced by communities and social groups (so things such as QAnon largely aren't delusions because they're being actively reinforced by an insular community that encourages its believers to ignore any evidence to the contrary) that cannot be changed even in the face of evidence against them. a delusional person's conviction in these beliefs is just as strong as your conviction that the sky is blue. some delusional folks have the ability to double book-keep (understand that what they're experiencing is a delusion), but this does not make the belief any less sincerely held and the ability to do so varies from person to person and from delusion to delusion.

you cannot choose delusions, delusions are involuntary. (note that for some folks already prone to delusions, however, hearing about certain delusions will lead to them developing those same delusions)

someones ability (or lack thereof) to double book-keep does not make them a "better" or "worse" delusional person. and--speaking from experience--some folks can technically double book-keep, but doing so is incredibly distressing and can make things worse. (for us, some of our beliefs help us maintain our hold on reality in other areas, and attempting to double book-keep and acknowledge them as delusions (even if (if) they might make that specific belief more manageable to deal with) would make it significantly harder to keep our hold on any aspect of reality as a whole; we call these load-bearing beliefs/delusions, depending on how far removed from it we are [whether or not we've stabilized enough to be able to acknowledge it as a delusion, or even not believing the delusion anymore, without it unstabilizing everything else])

being delusional is morally neutral, but they are often also incredibly difficult to manage and can make life incredibly worse (note that for some folks, certain delusions may be pleasurable or comforting; the feeling associated with delusions aren't always negative. however, this does not make it not a delusion, and that does not mean they are any more voluntary. finding pleasure/comfort in them also does not exclude them from making general life harder; many delusions may also influence and exacerbate other delusions)

delusions are not your funny silly buzzword to use when you're feeling quirky, it's not another way to say "vividly daydream and get emotionally attached to the daydream" or "get extremely attached to a piece of fiction to an unusually intense degree" (which for some reason i've been seeing more and more of lately), and "delusional" is not an insult or a derogatory term. "delulu" is demeaning and only serves to show that you don't care about delusional people.

stop throwing delusional people under the bus.

(and while you're at it, start tagging your unreality shit, too.)

Season 2 wishlist. Charlie needs to see Vox for whatever reason. In front of her, Vox is the PERFECT businessman. Charming. Suave. A firm handshake, not too forward, complements Vaggie on her fighting during the extermination, makes it sound like she renounced heaven instead of getting kicked out. He is working SO hard to make the V's seem respectable after Valentino and the entire arm licking thing. And it's working! Charlie is Delighted! It's going great! Until...

"Oh, I'm sorry, I should probably introduce my other business partner! Vox, sir- mister voxtech sir, this is Alastor!"

At which point dramatic bitch Alastor finally steps into the room with the smuggest grin on the fucking planet as Vox glitches out trying to keep his businessman smile in place.

YES!!! i want vox and charlie to meet so bad because the shenanigan possibilities are genuinely endless. the moment alastor shows up vox is going to lose the plot, but until that moment, there's so much to explore with charlie's optimism and forgiving nature vs vox's exploitative attitude and conmanship—she's not stupid, she knows he takes advantage of people (similar to how she knows how dangerous alastor is) but she's kind and hopeful despite that, which vox would take as extreme naivete, but he wouldn't recognize right away i think how smart and determined she is despite that. she knows how bad people in hell are, she doesn't need to be told. vox is as unrepentant as they come, she understands that, and she has faith regardless. he'd think it was stupid but there'd be a niggling piece of him deep down that craves her unconditional acceptance; he performs so much emotional management for the other vees + all of his audience that he'd be very taken aback by someone who actively attunes to his emotional state with nothing but positive intent. what was i talking about. oh yeah season 2 radiostatic ideas. i want charlie to make them do a couples counselling session like sambucky in tfatws

I want Alastor to be the objectively bad one in whatever went down between him and Vox. I want it to be made clear that Vox trusted him wholeheartedly, that Alastor swore they were partners and equals, friends even. That maybe they were on the cusp of some huge deal that would make them both the most powerful overlords and at the last second Alastor wrote Vox out and took it all for himself. That Vox asking him to ‘join his team’ was him asking what went wrong. They were partners weren’t they? And to have Alastor cruelly shoot back that Vox was always just another tool, a pawn, something to be used and discarded. That his gift for being so useful to Alastor was letting him live with what little power he hadn’t managed to steal.

That’s why they fought before Alastor disappeared. That’s why Vox has surrounded himself with friends but still makes sure he’s the one writing the contracts. And that’s why he’s so obsessed with getting revenge on Alastor.

And most importantly I want Charlie to learn this. I want her to see what Alastor made Vox into, what he was willing to do to his friend, and then to wonder what that means he’s willing to do to her and her little ‘pet project’ he’s supporting out of boredom.
