"Mama, please, how many times must I ask you take your shoes off in the house??" It was frustrating enough to be the only chef in a kitchen at times that seemed to care to keep things perfectly in order, even if he tended to obsessively do so, but all Marius wanted was for his mother to obey his wishes and not fight him on that. Frustrating, but only when the day had been especially stressful.

"I took them off, don't you see?" Adelpha was a kind and patient woman, especially with her only son who was high strung at the best of times, but even she was growing a bit tired of this same old song and dance. She pointed to the side where her shoes had sat beside the couch. She had taken them off, but it was too far from the door for the young man's liking. She could only sigh as she watched him simply pick them up and deposit them back beside the front door of the penthouse, "Mari, my dear, sweet boy, what's wrong? You look like a fish leapt from the river and ate your lunch, or whatever they would say here."

Marius just exhaled, keeping his back turned even after he dropped her shoes beside his own, "It's nothing, mama. I promise."

"You don't get that way when it's nothing. Do you not want to tell me?"

"...." he turned back to her, walking back beside the couch to sit beside her, "I got in trouble again, typical of me, I know. That's me, 'Marius the Disaster' striking when you least expect," he flashed her a smile at his own expense, but didn't focus on her face, "I was distracted. I thought - …I thought I saw Sam come in the restaurant. Looked just like him, but when I stopped him - well, it wasn't. I couldn't focus the rest of the shift. Burned everything I touched and nearly served something well past date."

Adelpha just gave a frown, watching as he sunk down into the couch, "You can't keep avoiding this forever, Marius. Maybe it's time you talked about what happened."

Marius gave a hard sigh, sitting up quickly to give her the frustrated look straight on, "Talk about what? Face him again and reopen the wound I inflicted on him? No, he deserves better than that. He deserves to move on."

"But what about you?"

"...I don't deserve him. He was too good for me."

"You can't keep yourself down like this," she raised a hand to cup his cheek, rubbing her thumb gently across his skin, "Let yourself heal so you can move on. And give me some grandchildren already."

He couldn't help the smile at that, shaking his head, "Of course, mama. I promise, one day." He said it, even if he didn't feel like the day would ever really come. Would he really be able to move on? Did he really deserve to? Maybe it was better this way. With another sigh, he stood and just moved away from her, "I brought you something I made tonight that didn't burn too bad. Your favorite."

"Moussaka? Oh sounds delightful, thank you, Mari."

Marius just smiled back to her before he continued walking towards the bathroom. Time for a shower to rinse off the day before collapsing into the bed he made for himself of self doubt and pity. Hopefully, it would be a dreamless slumber at least.
