Charles-Jean-Baptiste Sanson

Charles-Jean-Baptiste Sanson

Shinichi Sakamoto has here a truly interesting character and quite a well-written one.

Jean-Baptiste is here presented as someone with a great ability to delude himself, and he has to. Because otherwise, he would be dealing with: I sometimes kill innocent people for a living, something he recognizes. He is someone who is wrecked with guilt and is pressured to never show it. In his mind, it’s a sense of weakness. Also, he had evolved all his life in a clan-attachment style of emotional attachment and he only knows the values of the executioner cast.

Also, this sort of dynastic succession is the main cause of the father-son conflict. Both sides are actually reasonable when you look at it, but Jean-Baptiste actually takes it too far. For example: “If you don’t want to go to school, fine but you got to help the household out” is a reasonable rule, but again, most of the time, helping out the household doesn’t involve killing people. However, aside from that boot scene, he’s surprisingly reasonable with his children, and his most open conflict is with Charles, and Charles only.

Also, he kind of gets a redemption arc in the third volume, where he saved Damien’s son...Plus, that scene with Griffith’s beheading.

At the question whether corporal punishment had any educational merit, he said: “It’s what bonds both nobility and common folk alike, and I know and knew people who owe their lives that they were well whipped as youths. While I would not recommend most people to not care for the question, although thanks to the new laws of his majesty that wouldn’t be such a problem but...A man hung up a lantern is just as dead as a man hung on Place de Grève. All who survived such as this were corrected mercilessly by their mothers and fathers. My great-aunt, for example, may she now rest in Heaven, had the misfortune of being rumored a witch during the rain of the Great Sun King. Even if the witch trials were banned, my unlucky auntie dearest was not safe. People who grew up unbeaten, in my experience, tend to freeze in this cases. I don’t know exactly why, but it’s a quirk of the human mind. Thanks to having all those inhibitions beaten out of her as a girl, she was able to flee successfully and tell me those tells. A more recent example is monsieur de Paris. His father only rescued him one time from the crowd after he botched, the same who bought into the delusion boarding school would make him a normy, the other times he botched he had to run away on his own. Monsieur de Paris was still able to father two children, which unless this skill was birched into him, it would truely be a mirable he escaped so many postings with his manhood intact.”

Subyss had to stop himself. He talked too much. “Oh, pardon my manners, but may I ask your name, fine sir?” he asked, bowing down.

The weather is cold out, but the warmth of Heaven blazes forth in the form of a warm snout under Louis Auguste’s hand, bristling soft. The mare’s eyes are bright and soulful, batting thick lashes as she looks up at him; Louis Auguste’s fingers card through the warm mane, the soft of her neck. The holster around her head gleams in the light, clean. The stableboy stands there, saying nothing. There is a bruise flowering on his lower arm; barely covered by sweat and dust. ‘’Thank you,’’ he says to him, though he does not really know why. His breath comes out as fog.

Ideas for sexy executioner’s wife tasked with whippings, fantasy character design based on things I know

All in all: Harsh facial features and expression, cleavage and an hourglass figure.

French inspiration: Either a frilly, lacy dress, western’s men’s wear from inspiration anything Ancien Regime with ladder embroidery or some workwomen’s clothes with a blood-stained apron, either of hemp or leather. Exclude the color blue. Intense dark circles and harsh stare, unhealthy complexion, with either Romanian gypsy, French or Nordic features. You can make it sexy, I promise.

Japanese inspiration: Stripped kimonos and some leather accessories, with maybe even some fur. Feel free to add in the traditional tattoos. Earthy color palettes all the way. High cheekbones and a harsh stare with darkened eyelids and of course beautiful black hair. You can have fun with complexion and eyebags if you want.

Now...For fantasy races...

Elves: An idea to have is to keep the design sleek in a way that doesn’t waste too much fabric, so this means hip slits, flowing belts, aprons or loin-clothes. If elves have wings in your verse, backless clothes. In modern fantasy, elves are often represented with forehead jewelry, and don’t enjoy body modification. So how about a branded motif right in the middle of the forehead. Flowing coats are also a great idea, because A, style, B, executioner style, although it would have to have either straight cut sleeves or no sleeves instead of wide flowing ones to allow for that freedom of movement. However, keep in mind: sleek, graceful creature. In terms of facial features, a sinister stare and a bony complexion framed by curly hair would be perfect.

Dwarves:

Wild red hair, swarthy complexion, leather aprons and work-women’s clothes. Also, corsetry and plaid patterns, with either blood red or natural colors.

Fresh water fay:

Arm warmers, as they allow to keep warmth and mobility in water. You can also choose almost anything you like, although a backless crop top would be perfect to fit in wings if you so desire, or just be there for the effect. Clothing items inspired from peasant dress could also work. It could also be all replaced with a shift-like dress that looks like it has been rotting in a dark catacomb somewhere, giving an ethereal, creepy effect. In terms of features, water fay are often represented with either blond or green hair.
