For Everything. (X Drake X Hawkins)

For Everything. (X Drake x Hawkins)

Summary: Drake cannot bear with the past mistakes catching up to him anymore. He receives a Tarot reading from his one and only friend among the Beast Pirates.

Warning: Wano setting so possible spoilers. And after catching up with most of the anime…I just had to do this.

The small room was shrouded in darkness. Only a single source of light remained - the man observed as the trail of smoke curled upwards from the candle.

He was scared. The cold fear crawled underneath his skin and confused his senses. He tried to reach back into his past, to remember what led him to this miserable point. Not many memories were left to conjure up in order to answer the persisting questions.

A quiet voice in his head kept reminding him that the end draws near, that death lurks even in the shadowed corners of his room, waiting to pounce and take his life.

The man didn’t want to die just yet. Not one person would remember him fondly if he did - he needed more time to fix his mistakes. The main issue was, however, that for a single mistake in the past he had to spend years in the present, desperately trying to turn it all around.

His eyes landed on the open journal on his desk. If he died now… There was a chance someone might find his notes and read about the crimes and sins he regretted more than anything in the world. He could try to persuade his own self that he was used, manipulated, forced to kill. But it certainly didn’t persuade his aching heart.

Should he tell him? Tell him everything? But what if he turns on him, and Drake will be left with enemies on both sides of the conflict? That would serve no one.

He swiftly got up and started pacing across the room. The most disturbing thought was the one that kept telling him there was no right thing to do. Both the Marines and the forces of the Emperor were committing to the wrong ideas, their hatred for each other only adding fuel to the fire of the looming war.

How could everyone be so short-sighted? Serving vicious men in power with only their own interests in mind. But then again, Drake shouldn’t be the one to judge. Everyone else must have had their reasons to do it, just like he did.

His cover will be blown, sooner or later. And then he will be left on the utter mercy of the Beast Pirates, no longer of any use to the Marines.

Drake closed the journal. He had to tell him. There was no other choice. Like an enslaved animal in a cage, no matter which side he turned to, there was always the cold steel of bars in front of him. And so his heart led him to the only path left to take - towards one sole friend; a friend he was going to lose at the end of that same night.

Spandam now addresses Lucci MEGA RESPECTFULLY, to a genuinely comical degree. He says 仰る通りです、ダンナ/ossharutoori desu, danna! here while being all sycophantic. Ossharutoori (meaning “as you say”) isn’t just polite, it’s sonkeigo, the whole extra set of vocabulary used to be bonus honorific and respectful. And the use of the title danna is similarly ridiculous- it basically means ‘master.’

things you said when you thought i was asleep

It had been about a year since Marineford, and the thought that his favorite reptile was not gone from this world after all, not swallowed up by the depths of Impel Down, still hadn’t completely settled in. It had been a little over two years since they had last shared a bed; with Crocodile taking over Alabasta at the other side of the planet, they really just couldn’t make do. But now he was a wanted criminal like before he was a Shichibukai, and Crocodile was on the move again. And it just so happened that his Log Pose had brought him here—or so he said. Doflamingo had laughed, and graciously refrained from taunting him. He too was glad to see the man again, and in so unusually high spirits, too.

Sheets tangled behind him and just a corner of all of them around his naked body, Doflamingo sat cross-legged in his bed, having a rare smoke. It wasn’t often that it happened, but with Crocodile came the fragrance of burning earth, and after one kind of desire was quenched, he had felt another arise. He exhaled the smoke through his nose, propping his cheek into one hand, looking over. Crocodile was a landscape of rises and dales and burrows under the sheets, and so still it was almost eerie. But Doflamingo liked it. The man’s quiet behavior had always anchored him; his madness, his anxiousness. Idly tucking the cigarette between his lips, he leaned back, trying to get a glimpse of Crocodile’s face, but the man was buried beneath the sheets, face hidden away from view. Doflamingo gently took the blanket with thumb and index finger, lifting it away carefully. Crocodile didn’t move, only exhaling a little and stirring the hair that hung down into his relaxed face.

“Look at you,” Doflamingo said with a soft chuckle, taking the cigarette to put it out in the ashtray on his night table where the remnants of Crocodile’s cigar still lay. “Sleeping like a baby. When was the last time you were actually relaxed enough to get some rest?” He settled next to him, crawling under the covers to wrap his arm loosely around Crocodile’s broad chest and bury his face between his shoulder blades.

Crocodile let him, not bothering to let the man know he was still very much awake. He figured even like this, Doflamingo was right enough.

When it rains, it pours.

A Crocodile-centric fic I wrote for no other reason than my own enjoyment. Unbeta’d, some 1300 words.

When it rains, it pours.

The last thing he really remembered was the rain on his face. How he hated rain, he thought, looking up at the sky. Only a few hours earlier everything seemed to go according to plan. And now, after four years of planning, everything got washed down the drain.

How he hated rain.
